Presidential Election 2012, The Year of Few Differences...

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

The 2012 election truly gives Americans a choice between "the lesser of two evils." In fact the two major party candidates have as much in common as they have differences. In simple terms this means whether Obama or Romney is sitting in the big seat next January won't really make a hill of beans difference.

Micheal Snyder writing in The American Dream sums it up this way.

What a depressing choice the American people are being presented with this year. We are at a point in our history where we desperately need a change of direction in the White House, and we are guaranteed that we are not going to get it. The Democrats are running the worst president in American history, and the Republicans are running a guy who is almost a carbon copy of him. The fact that about half the country is still supporting Barack Obama shows how incredibly stupid and corrupt the American people have become. No American should have ever cast a single vote for Barack Obama for any political office under any circumstances. He should never have even been the assistant superintendent in charge of janitorial supplies, much less the president of the United States. The truth is that Barack Obama has done such a horrible job that he should immediately resign along with his entire cabinet. But instead of giving us a clear choice, the Republicans nominated the Republican that was running that was most similar to Barack Obama. In fact, I don't think we have ever had two candidates for president that are so similar. Yes, there are a few minor differences between them, but the truth is that we are heading into Obama's second term no matter which one of them gets elected. The mainstream media makes it sound like Obama and Romney are bitter ideological rivals but that is a giant lie. Yeah, they are slinging lots of mud at each other, but they both play for the same team and the losers are going to be the American people.

Republicans are being told that they have "no choice" but to vote for Romney because otherwise they will get another four years of Obama.

This "lesser of two evils" theme comes out every four years. We are told that we "must" vote for a horrible candidate because the other guy is even worse.

Well, millions of Americans are getting sick of this routine. Perhaps that is why it is being projected that as many as 90 million Americans of voting age will not vote this year.

Yes, Barack Obama has been so horrible as president that it is hard to put it into words.

But Mitt Romney would be just like Barack Obama.

Those that are dreaming of a major change in direction if Romney is elected are going to be bitterly, bitterly disappointed.

The following are 40 ways that Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are essentially the same candidate.... {Continue Reading}

  1. I've completely soured on Mr. Obama. My assessment now is that he's a crony capitalist who speaks divisively and likes to blow stuff up. Throw in the fact that Romney sounds just like Bush 2.0 and, yeah, I think that this is the perfect year to make a principled vote. Johnson.

  2. Americans don't agree with you. In fact, this election has the smallest number of undecided, or independent voters. Americans seem to see a stark difference and most Americans made up their minds long ago. According to you Americans might be wrong, but the reality is, Americans think it will make a big difference on who is President.
It depends on what Romney would do as President. We know what Obama will do. Maybe Romney will not do what he says, or Congress won't let him, but if he does what he says, then there is a big difference.

    1. My premise is supported by the article. Like it or not anon the Snyder article referenced has substance and tho 40 points in the article sound...

Most Americans will vote either their wallet/pocketbook, their "feelings, or by party loyalty regardless and without thought to substance.

      It is what it is...

    2. Anon said; "In fact, this election has the smallest number of undecided, or independent voters.... Americans seem to see a stark difference"

How does this follow? You didn't make any case for it.

The first part, does, show that Americans know enough about Romney and Obama to decide. It says nothing as to whether or not they see a stark difference, at all.

"but the reality is, Americans think it will make a big difference on who is President. "

Again, the low number of undecided voters is entirely unrelated to this conclusion of yours.

  3. "The Democrats are running the worst president in American history"

That statement shows the authors bias and makes the rest of his article suspect.
I can think of much worse presidents. Carter for one. Hoover for another. Nixon for another. There are more.
I'm not as convinced as you, that this author is stating reality, but his biased view of his reality.
Haven't Americans always voted their pocketbook, or feelings? Nothing new.
When elections are decided by less than 5% of the vote, someone is always unhappy. If voter turnout was 80-95% (which is what it used to be before WW II) the winning margin would be greater and with less contention after the election. Allowing Congress to work with less contention and get things done.

    1. I agree completely on Carter and partially on Nixon.

He might be biased, but as you read the article, particular the 40 points, you see he is biased against Romney as well. Basically he is saying we have piss poor choices in other words. He'll likely support Romney, I'll support Johnson.

  4. Is it really hold our nose time again and pull the lever for the lesser of two evils? I love the protest vote as an idea, but we run the risk of letting the Joker win a second term. I guess I am squarely in the anti-Obama camp, but I am also in the anyone-but-Romney camp as well, so it is back to the lesser of two evils. If I thought Johnson had a chance, then I would be all in. The issue is that he doesn't have that chance this time around, so back to nose holding. The key thing for a successful election is to elect fiscal conservatives down ticket to push Mittens in the right direction, away from his big government and big spending tendencies.

    1. Because I live in A DEEPER than BLUE state, and the Obamabots overwhelm the state I will be voting for Johnson. In fact I would likely vote Johnson EVEN IF it were closer.

  5. I disagree. With Romney, there is at least a hope of changing direction on spending and regulation. I said a chance, and I will be in the crowd with torches and pitchforks ready if they renege.

The "Voting for the lesser of two evils" meme is overused and tiresome. Given Washington and the other founder's view of government as a necessary evil, every election is "Voting for the lesser of two evils."

    1. Within the system known of government (understood to be a necessary evil) there are from time to time men (and women) of character, ability, integrity, and honor that are not a lesser of two evils. I do not see that in either Romney or Obama.

You are putting hope ahead of clear and reasoned thinking on this one. But you certainly are not alone. My father and I have this discussion almost weekly.

60% (or thereabout) of America shouls be voting Gary Johnson. IMO of course.

    2. "60% (or thereabout) of America shouls be voting Gary Johnson..."

But in reality, far less than 10% of this group will be. As Johnson voters tend to be conservative, a vote for him in a contested state is a vote for Obama

Unless someone is savvy and aware and is able to vote for Johnson in a deep blue state.

    3. Yeah I know dmarks. Rather than vote for principled change the electorate that is more closely aligned with Johnson than either Romney or Obama will hold their noses and vote yet once again the "lesser of two evils." Why, because everybody views third party candidates as a waste of time. So as the situation worsens America will continue to elect and reelect the failed rEpublican and demoCrat parties to power.

As the merry-go-round of corruption and deceit continues.

    Hyperbolic nonsense.

The article is a waste of bandwidth, IMO.

Why bother with anything else the author has to say?

    1. Righto, when ya don't like the messenger, and you're a die in the wool demoCrat and Obamabot why listen to the message that points out the SIMILARITIES in the candidates. Precisely because you are so damned biased you simply refuse to read, listen to, or consider anything outside of the realm of progressive thought.

You're very smart Shaw. You are also VERY biased.

At least I listen to opposing views and occasionally see the value and modify my position to accommodate other views that make sense. I have yet to see you do that. Doing so when it makes sense is a discipline I learned through 35 years of management and supervising.

  7. To say that Obama is the worst president in history is just stupid, and it makes Republicans even more stupid and wrong, because that's just not true.

Why should we trust Romney to be our president, when we all know half the things that come out of his mouth are lies? Shouldn't we be trusting a man who already knows what he's doing because he's just had four years of experience? Obama killed Osama Bin Ladin. Don't forget that. Would Romney have done such a thing? Of course not! He's like the kind of people who say the Holocaust never happened. "9/11 never happened." That's what would have come out of his mouth.

Let's not support someone who thinks the wealthy are who should be running this country. Let's let the middle class decide what's best for them.

Really? How so" Provide factual data to support your statement.

"Why should we trust Romney to be our president, when we all know half the things that come out of his mouth are lies?'

Really? Please provide PROOF that WHAT YOU SAY is true. Also please provide proof that half of what Obermeister says is actually true.

"Shouldn't we be trusting a man who already knows what he's doing because he's just had four years of experience?"

Does he know what he is doing? A natter of opinion at best. Yours and I ain't buying it.

Explain, you are lost in something even you don't comprehend. La La Land of hate dude.

"Let's not support someone who thinks the wealthy are who should be running this country. Let's let the middle class decide what's best for them."

The ONLY thing that you have pontificated on that make any sense.

Now, if ys want to play hide and seek Anon I ain;t really interested.

      Good Day...
