The Reemergence of Mitt Romney at CPAC...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Romney at CPAC 2013. The reemergence of the Mitten. A man that is as close to a chameleon as there ever was.The crowd eats it up. THE HILL - GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney appealed for the Republican Party to learn from the mistakes of his losing 2012 presidential campaign and, as conservatives chart their course forward, to look to GOP governors for a path to future electoral wins. Romney received perhaps the most enthusiastic reception yet of any speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference, with a packed auditorium offering him an extended standing ovation before he began. He told the CPAC crowd that while he "left the race disappointed that we didn't win," he remained optimistic for future success — if the party learns from his campaign. "We've lost races before, in the past, but those setbacks prepared us for larger victories. It's up to us to make sure that we lear...

When the Truth is Inconvenient...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny The left ignores it... New York Post - While in Israel, Mitt Romney said something every sane person knows to be true: There is great cultural and political meaning in the fact that Israel has prospered while the Palestinians have festered. “Culture,” Romney said, “makes all the difference . . . you notice a dramatic, stark difference in economic vitality.” He didn’t specify what he meant by “culture,” but you can take your pick. You want a political culture that works to create conditions under which an economy can thrive? Since signing the Oslo Accords with the Palestinians, Israel has spent two decades working to unshackle its economy from its socialist roots, with remarkable results. The Palestinians? They’ve created what the House Foreign Affairs Committee has called a “chronic kleptocracy,” with foreign aid and investment shamelessly stolen and diverted to the bank accounts of the leaders of the Palestin...

Obama Campaign In An Uproar, Has Egg On It's Face...

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny This sight is no fan, advocate or supporter of Mitt Romney. However when the "other" side, or opposition party takes it upon themselves to get their knickers all in an uproar over Romney's correctly quoting the President's statements, well, to frigging bad boys and girls. The following, taken from the the weekly Standard offers clarity. President Obama's reelection campaign accuses Mitt Romney of distorting the president's words, by showing a side by side comparison of the Obama's words and Romney's quotation of those words: "Mitt Romney is launching a false attack," the ad's text states. But the weird thing is: The Obama campaign is purposefully trying to make it sound like Romney is misquoting the president, when the official White House transcript backs up Romney's quotation. In the ad, Romney says that Obama revealed his thoughts on business when he said t...

Ah, the Stench Of Hypocricy...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny It has been fascinating to watch President Obama go after Romney because of his experience and record with Bain Capital, a private equity firm. Via: Fox News Channel Even more so considering the evident hypocrisy. Via: Fox News Channel However, we must remember anything goes in American politics and the obsession for power. Truth and integrity be damned! Via: Memeorandum

Mitt Romney Promising Increase in Defense Spending in a Romney Administration...

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny 50 years after President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered his farewell address, newly discovered documents show that the speech was nearly two years in the making. The family of Eisenhower speechwriter Malcolm Moos discovered the documents in a family cabin and donated them to the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. The papers show that Eisenhower was deeply involved in crafting one of the most famous speeches in American history in which he warned the nation of the growing power of the "military-industrial complex." Presidential historian (and Foundation for the National Archives board member) Michael Beschloss and Eisenhower Library director Karl Weissenbach discuss the evolution of the speech. And in the fifty first year following President Eisenhower's historic speech the Military Industrial Complex continues to grow. In the never ending cycle of perpetuating the myth that unless we continue to...

"The Donald".... A Huge Liability For Romney

Image
by Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny George Will hits the nail squarely on it's head. ABC - This morning on “This Week,” ABC News’ George Will called Donald Trump a ”bloviating ignoramus,” questioning why presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is associating with the real estate mogul, who once again falsely questioned President Obama’s birthplace this week. “I do not understand the cost benefit here,” Will said on the “This Week” roundtable. “The costs are clear. The benefit — what voter is gonna vote for him (Romney) because he is seen with Donald Trump? The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious it seems to me. “Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics,” Will added. “Again, I don’t understand the benefit. What is Romney seeking?” Fox Business Network anchor Liz Claman agreed, adding “it’s a dangerous ...

Mitch Daniels Has Some Advice for Mittens...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny "You have to campaign to govern, not just to win." - Mitch Daniels, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels offered the above advice to Mitt Romney, the presumptive republican presidential nominee. In this age of political platitudes, sophistry, hyperbole, and driving negativism more appropriate words would be hard to find. Coming from any politician. A few key excerpts from a CNN Politics article. The governor, who's often cited as a potential Republican running mate for Romney, reportedly told the newspaper that "political victories that follow 'slash-and-burn' campaigns seldom lead to great accomplishments," referring to the already-bitter war underway between Romney and the president's re-election campaign. "Spend the precious time and dollars explaining what's at stake and a constructive program to make life better," Daniels said. "And as I say, look at everythi...

Paul Ryan Endorses Romney...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Representative Paul Ryan, one of the republican party conservative heavyweights has endorsed Mitt Romney. Coming on the heels of endorsements from George H.W. Bush and Marco Rubio it is becoming clear that principles are out the window and pragmatism is the order of the day. Washington ( CNN ) - Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin endorsed Mitt Romney on Friday, ahead of his state's Tuesday primary. The chairman of the House Budget Committee said Romney is the best person to serve as president and the candidate most likely to beat President Barack Obama in the general election. I am convinced that Mitt Romney has the skills, the tenacity, the principles, the courage and the integrity to do what it takes to get America back on track," Ryan said on Fox News. "I believe he is the right person for the job." He also called on conservatives to "coalesce" around the former Massachusetts governor. ...

Gallup Poll, Romney Regaining Lost Ground....

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Amazing, outlandishly amazing! PRINCETON, NJ -- Mitt Romney's national support among Republican voters has surged in recent days, coincident with his decisive victory in the Illinois primary and a prominent endorsement from Jeb Bush. Romney's support has increased to 40%, the first time a candidate has reached that level in this campaign, and his lead over Rick Santorum is back into double digits after narrowing to four percentage points on March 20. The data are based on Gallup Daily tracking from March 18-22, an eventful time in the GOP campaign. On March 20, Romney won the Illinois primary, and he got Bush's endorsement the next day. That same day, a Romney aide hinted the former Massachusetts governor would "reset" his positions for the general election campaign in the same manner a child would shake an "Etch-a-Sketch" toy to clear it, which again raised concerns about Romney's ...

Mitt Romney... His New Pitch to Conservatives

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny                                             Nicole Bengiveno/The New York Times Mitt Romney, the flip that continues to flop. Mittens Romney, the consummate moderate (or is he a liberal?) establishment republican must really believe people are either paying no attention or they are tone deaf. Certainly he must believe in his ability to sell anything he says to enough people to get the nomination. His newest gig, "I was a severely conservative republican governor." That's what he told the audience at CPAC 2012 anyway. Those of us who live in Massachusetts know the truth. We live with RomneyCare, which by the way was the blueprint for ObamaCare. Now I'm not going to say everything Mittens did was a disaster because in ...

Partisan Politics and Irrationality from the Left

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Libe rty -vs- Tyra nny Steve Benen I have rarely seen such a pandering load of excrement as Benen's analysis of Romney's statement regarding when one should decide to serve in public office. Benen's commentary is the epitome of unethical and divisive class warfare. Following is Benen's irrational analysis of Romney s remarks. Washington Monthly - About 10 hours after last night’s debate, the six Republican presidential candidates met again this morning for another debate, this time sponsored by NBC and Facebook. This one was far livelier than its predecessor — maybe the GOP field is made up for morning people? — and one line in particular jumped out early on: Mitt Romney made the case that electoral politics is for wealthy people. “I happened to see my dad run for governor when he was 54 years old,” Romney said. “He had good advice to me. He said never get involved in politics if you have to win election to pay a m...

Mittens: Will He Become the Statist Republican Establishment 'Shoe In'?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -v s- Tyranny Mitt Romney - Republican Statist ( Public Policy Polling ) - Romney leads Obama For the first time in PPP's monthly national polling since July 2010 Mitt Romney's taken a lead, albeit a small one, over Barack Obama. He's up 47-45. Romney has two main things going for him. He leads the President 45-36 with independents. And he's also benefiting from a much more unified party with 88% of Republicans committed to voting for him while only 83% of Democrats say they'll vote for Obama. Our national survey confirms the wide electability gap between Romney and the rest of the Republican candidate field. Obama leads both Newt Gingrich (49-44) and Ron Paul (46-41) by 5 points, Michele Bachmann (50-41) by 9, and Rick Perry (50-40) by 10. It continues to look like if GOP voters really want to defeat Obama they pretty much have to nominate Romney. { Read More } Principles matter. Or at least they shoul...

Romney to Pick Up Quayle Endorsment

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -v s- Tyranny Former Veep Dan Quayle Mitt Romney has picked up ex Vice President Dan Quayle's support in his run for the republican party Presidential nomination. Quayle plans to announce his endorsement Tuesday afternoon in Paradise Valley, Arizona where the former Veep owns a home. WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Vice President Dan Quayle is endorsing Mitt Romney for president, Republican officials told The Associated Press Monday. Quayle plans to announce his support for the former Massachusetts governor Tuesday afternoon at an event in Paradise Valley, Ariz., where Quayle has a home. Quayle served as vice president under President George H.W. Bush. He was a House member from Indiana for two terms and a U.S. senator. Quayle has largely stayed out of the national political spotlight in recent years, though he did mount an unsuccessful presidential bid in 2000. A series of gaffes during his vice presidency made him the subj...

Rommey Not Walking Away From RomneyCare of Massachusetts

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -v s- Tyranny Mitt Romney has said rather decisively he is not waking away from ObamaCare's model, RomneyCare of Massachusetts . While admitting that his healthcare hasn't worked out perfectly he still believes it was the right thing for the Bay State. There are many who disagree and for good reason. Even given RomneyCare there seems to be a growing consensus among conservative pundits that Romney is going to be the GOP standard bearer in 2012. With his liberal Rockefeller style politics it is hard to get ones arms around just why his nomination is becoming almost a forgone conclusion. From his recent interview with Neil Cavuto. ( National Review Online ) Don’t expect Mitt Romney to backtrack on his Massachusetts health-care plan at any point this election cycle. “I am sure there are many people who have calculated, and perhaps correctly, that the healthcare plan I put in place in Massachusetts is not good for me pol...

Mitt Romney Statement on ObamaCare

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism June 2'nd 2011, Mitt Romney shared the following thought on the Sean Hannity show. Romney's statement leaves no room for doubt. He is on the record, he will repeal ObamaCare if elected. As the full interview is made available it will be posted here at Rational Nation USA . There were certainly things that a conservative can find issue with in the full interview. Certainly he will need to explain his MA. RomneyCare with clarity, and how it differs from ObamaCare, as well as his reasons for supporting mandates in MA. Even considering this Romney's solid and clear statement with respect to repealing ObamaCare if elected is most assuredly not one of them. UPDATE 6/4/11 Pretty much Republican boilerplate issues. Romney continues to present himself as a RINO that will likely represent the old Rockefeller wing of the party. Notice that while acknowledging waste in militar...

Considering Romney for 2012 Anyone?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation   USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism With Mitt Romney a likely 2012 presidential candidate his Massachusetts Healthcare Plan, hereafter called RomneyCare, is certainly to become an issue. In fact Mike Huckabee is already calling for Romney to admit his plan is a failure. "Ever since the debate over (the national) program began, it’s been compared to RomneyCare, the failed statewide health-care program implemented by none other than my fellow GOP member Mitt Romney when he was governor of Massachusetts,” Huckabee says in the book. “Any critical assessment of this program will show that it failed … and yet the Obama administration decided to emulate it in its pursuit of a national health-care program.” Romney, through his spokesperson said he was very proud he was able to get all residents covered when he was Governor of Massachusetts. "Mitt Romney is proud of what he accomplished for Massachusetts in getting everyone covered,”...

Should The USA Rush To Ratify Start?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Former Massachusetts Governor, and likely 2012 contender for the Republican Party's nomination to run for president, has a well written article in the Boston Globe. The START Treaty being pushed by President Obama for quick ratification during the lame duck session of Congress should give us all pause. Remember his rush to get the 787 billion dollar stimulus package passed, and his rush to pass ObamaCare, all without reading the "fine print." I think we can all see how that is working out for the nation. That aside, I personally have not yet formed a final opinion on the START treaty. Other than we ought to wait until an exhaustive review by the Senate can be completed so all the details, positive as well as negative can be discussed, debated, and a reasoned and informed decision can be made. A brief excepet from the Globe article: WHY THE hurry, Mr. President? It’s a question we’ve asked twice before. There was a rush to pas...
