Two cultures that yet today have influence on western thinking and philosophy. Three giants in the realm of philosophy arose from ancient Greece, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Rome, arguably the world's greatest empire was ultimately doomed to decline and ultimate collapse, primarily the result of self destructive behaviors. Fast forward to 2012. America, arguably (once) the freest, most prosperous, and influential nation in the modern world is facing decline, just as the great nation states of Greece and Rome before them. In fact if one looks to history they will see that history is replete with examples of nations that achieved the apex of influence and power, only to experience decline and be replaced by another rising influential power. By: Pamela D. Hart With the passage of the Health Care bill, Americans are angered, frightened and disenfranchised. They feel as if Congress is not attuned to the average American; they feel as if Congress has trampled on their rights; and they feel as if Congress renounced their oaths to uphold the Constitution. Americans fear for their future and the future of their children and grandchildren as the debt of our country has reached overwhelming levels and will probably extend to levels that will be impossible to maintain. All of these fears are understandable; the anger and hostility as well. It’s in the darkest sky that we see the brightest star. It is during our most difficult ordeals that we find courage to face our challenges. Without trials and hardships we would never know our grit, resolve, and convictions. It is when we are tested that we discover our TRUE selves and whether we can withstand the onslaught of perceived impasses. So, like the Phoenix, let us rise from the ashes....

With the growing influence of the socialist/satist government   currently in power in the US, and the move towards redistribution of wealth, and increased government control over the lives of all Americans,   the   virtues of fierce individualism, limited government, competitive capitalism, and self reliance , will soon be forgotten.   Correction, not forgotten, but I believe the majority of our people will, fearing the loss of the meager scraps of freedoms left them by the socialist/statist will not resist, believing it the best way to preserve whatever scraps of freedom may be left for them.   We are witnessing what many who studied history, political science, and philosophy with an objective eye knew to be true, the above virtues, and the proper understanding of them clearly matters.   Without an understanding of these virtues humans are destined to repeat mistakes of the past.   Ayn Rand, Aldous Huxley, and George Orwell, (Nikita Khrushchev p...
