A Question of Integrity, or the Lesser of Two Evils...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny The second tier of the rEpublican pArty presidential ticket doing a bit of twisting. Given that flip flops and spinning of the facts seem to be increasing in popularity with the rEpublicans begs a question... Is anyone in the conservative camp concerned with integrity any more? This from the Atlantic . Again, we expect politicians to shade and shape their version of reality. But getting a reputation for doing this, as Ryan is doing during the campaign, is a particular problem for someone who has been set up as a uniquely honorable truth-teller. Which brings us to Ryan and Norah O'Donnell today on Face the Nation. She presented him with another of the partial-truths from his convention speech, which he has repeated afterward. This is his slam of Obama for cutting defense spending, without mentioning that he has voted for these same cuts. I mention this less for what it shows about Ryan than for what it shows about O...

Yaron Brook of the Ayn Rand Institute on Paul Ryan...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny While visiting fellow liberty site Left Coast Rebel I found this excellent video and accompanying text. A very big H/T to LC R and thanks for letting me "steal" the material Tim. By the Left Coast Rebel "He's not a follower of Ayn Rand; clearly he's been influenced by her..." More from Yahoo Finance : "I don't think Ryan even in his political philosophy is as radical as I am or as radical as Ayn Rand would be," says Brook in an interview with The Daily Ticker. "Maybe he is in terms of his long-term vision and is just a practical politician." Even though Brook says Ryan's plan is "nowhere near" what the economy needs to save it from a "debt disaster" he is quick to defend it against attacks."It brings expenses back to 2008 levels," he says. He's also "shocked" that Ryan's plan has been criticized so s...

Ayn Rand's Objectivist Ethics - Rational Self Interest...

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan to be his running mate has the left twisting themselves into knots in the early attempts to misrepresent Paul Ryan's intellect and ability. Not content to attack Ryan the lefties have determined to attack Ayn Rand as well. Rand is the author and philosopher that Ryan freely admits had a positive impact on his thinking with respect to governance and ethics. The reason the left has such obsessive fear (that borders on hatred) of Ayn Rand is she stands for individualism over collectivism, a limited and proper role for the federal government, and she vehemently denounced the very statism that the leftist power structure in America has grown to embrace and herald as proper government Just as the founding fathers of our democratic republic were classical liberals and enlightened thinkers, Ayn Rand embraced, and advocated classical liberalism. Modern liberals (liberal today means c...

The Path to Prosperity

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Paul Ryan's plan may not be perfect, but it is a path in the right direction. Do not let the destructive progressive collectivist statists mislead you with their misinformation and deceitful rhetoric. America is facing a severe fiscal crisis that only sound fiscal thinking and policies can pull us away from the brink of collapse. The democrats and the Obama administration have no plan. Other than the continuation of the statist big spending policies we have grown accustomed to seeing during the past few administrations. It is inded time for a change.

Moonbats, Reporters, and MSNBC

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism One has to wonder, I mean really really wonder about the Moonbats that heavily populate the democratic party, and the progressive movement. Author and reporter David Cay Johnston has just taken Moonbattery to new heights. I mean really new heights! During an MSNBC segment with Ed Schultz {one of the moonbats} discussing Rep. Paul Ryan's Path to Prosperity deficit reduction proposal he questioned Ryan's legitimacy because he is an advocate of Rand's views. He pointed to Rand's bestseller The Fountainhead , a story about a fiercely individualistic young struggling architect  as as a reason to question Rep. Ryan's legitimacy. Of course by condensing the entire plot to a singular event in the book, without giving proper lead in and explanation, Mr. Johnston was attempting to question not only Ryan's legitimacy, but his motive and integrity as well. Excerpt  and video from The ...

Collins Announces She Will Not Support the Ryan Budget Proposal

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism It should surprise no one that republican Senator Susan Collins (D-ME) jumped out front and announced she doesn't support Congressman Ryan's plan to reduce the national debt by cutting 5.8 trillion dollars in spending over the next ten years. One of the Senate's most moderate Republicans she in reality is a Democrat with an R behind her name. While Collins commented that she respected Ryan for having the courage to put forth a detailed plan she immediately expressed her non support. For now Ryan's plan is the only plan that in fact addresses the long term structural problems of entitlements and wasteful bureaucratic spending. It seems to me that the prudent course of action for a supposedly republican senator to take would have been to wait until the issue came to the Senate floor for debate. At that time she could have debated her concerns with her colleagues in the Senate. Sen. Sus...

Ryan's Plan Worth Looking At...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Representative Paul Ryan has just rolled out his budget plan and it's potential to cut 6.2 trillion dollars in spending over the next ten years. His Path to Prosperity may be the natural continuation of the Regan Revolution. Some highlets of the plan: Embraces free markets to reshape the social welfare state. Shrinks government rather than looking for ways to finance the expanding the public sector. Prevents Washington D.C. from growing to 45% of the GDP by  2050, as compared to 24% today. Ryan's plan would downsize government to just over 15% by 2020. Return the size of government to approximately 1950 and prevent the Europeanization of the U.S.A.'s economy.  In fact Ryan's plan strongly supports and embraces a dynamic growth as opposed to a  managed de...
