An Example Of Doing the Right Thing...

I run Dick’s Sporting Goods. It’s Congress’s turn to do something about guns.   Edward W. Stack, CEO Dick's Sporting Goods Throughout history, the United States has been a beacon of hope for the world — especially for people who appreciate and respect that we are a country founded on laws that have been enacted to guard our freedom and keep us safe. As a gun owner, I support the Second Amendment and understand why, for many, the right to bear arms is as American as baseball and apple pie. But I also agree with what Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in his majority opinion in 2008’s landmark Heller case : “Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited.” It is “not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.” It is clear we have a problem with the gun laws in this country. They are not squarely focused on keeping all of us safe — especially our children. There continue to be m...

Another Day, Another Shooting, and Another Teen Dies...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation U S A Purveyor of Truth A majority of Americans support the 2'nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Actually the more accurate statement is a majority of Americans support the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms responsibly , without endangering innocent individuals, or using deadly force except in an act of self defense against an assailant . That is how I see it anyway, and honestly believe most others do as well. However, as we continue to witness unnecessary deaths by firearms in ever increasing frequency even the most staunch 2'nd Amendment right advocates (I consider myself in that group) need to begin to ask themselves what measures must we take to end the growing firearm violence. Surely a nation of intelligent people ought to be able to protect the right of the responsible and well balanced citizens to have firearms and at the same time do a better job of protecting society from the senseless violence we as...

Wayne Lapierre and the NRA, More Hyperbole and Spreadin the Fear...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Is it just me or is anyone else tiring of the seemingly never ending drone of guys like LaPierre and Nugent? Mostly they are just blowing smoke and trying their damnedest to spread fear with all their hyperbolic, please forgive me, bullshit . We all understand you guys despise the President, but at least try and use some intelligence, commonsense, and cut the BS about how the sky is falling on our second amendment rights all because Obama is a commie and has no greater desire than to strip us of our liberties. The dude might me a lot of things but just in case you've failed to notice in many ways he's not all that different than any other mainstream politician and leader. I suppose I have most likely wasted the keystrokes, but at least I got it off my chest. By Wayne LaPierre - Before I tell you how the NRA and our members are going to Stand And Fight politically and in the courts, let’s acknowledge that all...

More Thoughts On Reasonable Firearm Control...

by: Les Carprnter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy in which 20 innocent children lost their live to a sick and mentally unstable individual the subject of gun control has remained center stage. This is understandable, and as it should be. The pursuit of finding improved methods to better identify unstable individuals and thereby keep firearms out of the hands of such individuals is a worthy pursuit. As we consider how to deal with increasing societal violence we must find a happy medium that will both improve public safety and preserve our second amendment rights. It can be done, if both sides of the gun control debate will start listening to each other rather talking A T each other. We have heard from the NRA's Wayne LaPierre, who has offered essentially the same solution as the organization did in 2007. Put armed police guards in every school in America. Not anything most suburban and rural Mom's and Dad's will b...
