The Afghanistan Quagmire
By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA General Petraeus emphatically making the pitch for a continued presence in Afghanistan. At least until the job is done. Whatever, and whenever that may be. Does anyone else hear the argument for the Military Industrial Complex ? Or is it just me? Perhaps I am missing something here, and if I am please correct me. We have been in Afghanistan for nine years and have failed thus far to accomplish the mission of capturing or terminating the life of Osama Bin Laden. We have failed to eradicate the presence of the Taliban. We have failed to win the hearts and minds of the majority of the Afghani people. So after nine years, other than satisfying the initial desire to get even with the 911 perpetrators, what have we actually accomplished.
