Tonight's VP Debate, Mike Pence With the Unenviable Position of Defending The Donald's Madness...

Rational Nation USA
Purveyor of Truth

Watching the VP debate tonight should be interesting. More so to see Trump's reaction to his running mate's performance than the actual debate itself.

tRump has undoubtedly moved presidential politics to new lows and all indications are he intends to take them lower.

Sadly the republican party will suffer s a whole, But they've done the damage to themselves as really have no one to blame but themselves.

Tim Kaine isn’t Mike Pence’s only opponent Tuesday night in the only debate between the vice-presidential hopefuls — Pence also has to cope with the big shadow cast by his party’s standard-bearer, Donald Trump.

That’s one reason Democratic members of The POLITICO Caucus — a panel of swing-state activists, strategists and operatives — are more optimistic about Kaine’s chances of delivering a winning performance than Republicans are about Pence’s.

Virtually all Democratic insiders surveyed last week, 97 percent, expect Kaine to get the better of Pence at Longwood University. In comparison, fewer than three-quarters of Republicans, 74 percent, think Pence will win.
“Pence will have to defend Trump and his year-plus of inflammatory comments,” said a New Hampshire Republican, who, like all insiders, completed the survey anonymously. “Kaine won't.”

“Kaine in a blowout,” an Iowa Republican predicted. “He has a personality. Pence does not. His attempts to explain Trump are among the most tortured I've ever seen. … Pence goes about it with all the passion of a dead fish skittering along the concrete at [Seattle’s Pike Place] Market.”

Other Republicans who thought Kaine would outperform Pence were critical of the Indiana governor’s style.
“Kaine may have better appeal, if only because Pence is too ‘Cracker Barrel’ for moderate, upper-middle-class suburban constituencies,” a Michigan Republican said.

“Tim Kaine is the relatable neighbor next door,” an Iowa Republican added. “Mike Pence is the guy you feel the need to impress in church.”
But the majority of Republicans have faith in Pence, who is in his first term as Indiana governor after serving six terms in the House.

“He's a really good communicator and engaging personality,” a Pennsylvania Republican said. “Tim Kaine isn't either.”

That doesn’t mean those Republicans covet Pence’s position: defending Trump, who plucked Pence out of Indianapolis less than three months ago.
“The only reasonable person in the race is Pence,” a Virginia Republican said. “However, he will have the unenviable task of defending Trump.”

  1. Well... A Virginia republican has my ear.

To his credit, Kaine did not harp too much on Trump's negatives, at least out of the starting gate. I was mostly appalled at both candidates who really took to the extreme the practice of thanking and honoring their host university and state with sixteen irrelevant stories about their connections to the state.

The question was, as the person one heartbeat away from the presidency, what are your qualifications to lead the free world without a moment's notice in the unfortunate event of the disability or death of the president? That was the tone set and the beginning of both men basically ignoring the questions so that they could spit out their prepared remarks.

Both men are able spokesmen for their respective party's talking points. Pence comes across as more of a loyal soldier. That much is predictable. Happily, neither of them is a crazy. In a certain sense it was a much better debate between the two parties than the comedy we watched last Monday.

The takeaway was that neither gentleman had any more respect for a female moderator than would have Trump himself.

    1. Pence won the debate with respect to style. Calm, cool, interupted less, presidential.

Kaine won on substance and truthfullness. Combative, excessive interruptions, did what HRC wanted him to do.

Both Pence and Kaine are more qualified and would be better presidents than tRump ever would.

Now on to the second outing of the presidential candidates this coming Sunday.

  3. There's apparently no end to the willful blindness and or hypocrisy of the Trumpista, those who swoon over Donald J. Trump's rudeness, crassness, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, and his other disgusting character traits.

In a scathing commentary on the VP debate FreeThinke, a self proclaimed "man" of culture and refinement, demonstrates the height of hypocrisy; as well as his boiling rightwing extremism. It is the hate and extremism demonstrated by FreeThinke and those like him that MUST be defeated in November.

    4. I don't know what the point is of just repeating someone's comment. Anyway, I think it's quite odd that Pence "won" despite lying about Trump not saying things he has said... and are on tape. He also put forward a 100-percent-the-opposite-of-Trump Syrian policy. I'd take Trump over Pence as president, in any case. Pence is a serious religious nutjob.

    6. Off the rails, indeed. I got three fakes following my comment. Although I didn't notice that he copied the same response he gave to "From the Registered Nurse". His response is to say "get out", even though it is an obvious fake (and, I agree, possibly posted by him).

I posted again, I'll have to check back to see what the response is.

Dervish Sanders [October 7, 2016 at 1:01 PM] For the record, the last three comments by "Dervish Sanders" are fakes. I commented ONCE. A reasonable comment, or so I thought. I didn't say I'm a HRC supporter (although I am) because FreeThinke made it clear HRC supporters are not welcome here. I only pointed out the FACT that Pence kept lying about Trump not saying what he is on tape saying. Faker above who copied and pasted my comment from RNUSA did not include the LINK. Link is to the video which shows Pence saying "Trump never said it" followed by Trump saying it. Anyway, I'm a "demon" and a "lying piece of shit" for stating FACTS? BTW, as for "demons", I think EVIL is on Trump's side... White supremacists, racists, bigots, misogynists... the deplorables, in other words. They are all supporting Trump. Don't worry about me returning. This will be my last comment. Except for all the fake comments which will likely follow.

Although my Blogger ID (for the fake comment) is a link to a**holesanoymous.com. But Chrome says "this site can't be reached" because "a**holesanoymous.com's server DNS address could not be found". Perhaps there is something bitingly funny at that URL, but I doubt it for some reason.

    1. TOM (unless you're talking about another Tom, instead of THE TOM) appears to be a Democrat and not a Republican. And, while I have seen him commenting on the Trump-supporting blogs, I think he only does so because RN does. He is RN's stalker, and much more of a "stalker" than me (as I recall dmarks used that term at least once... possibly when I commented on Malcolm's blog, the Latte blog or one other that I recall).

TOM (as far as I can tell) creates IDs for the purpose of getting published on the blogs of his enemies so he can continue harassing them, and not to post fake comments impersonating anyone.

      Delete
    2. You are a stalker Dervish? News to me. :-)

The TOM/Steve/Luke trio of one is an interesting example of things not worth wasting too much time on trying to figure out. Better to simply play the sucker (s) or hit the delete key.

    5. Just for the record, the term was "everlasting blogstalker", and was used (that I could find) once on the blog of Willis Hart, and once on the blog of Latte Guy. I wasn't looking for an apology regarding that one, as I knew it wasn't true. Although dmarks could have interpreted it that way, the truth is that (if I was "stalking" anyone) it was Willis Hart. Latte Guy commented on Willis' blog, and said something (as I recall, I'm not going to waste time looking for the comment) that amounted to a pre-apology to Latte... if I started commenting on Latte's blog. So, of course I HAD to. As it turned out, Willis didn't comment as much as dmarks did. Nor did he engage me as much as dmarks did. Anyway, Latte moved his blog to WordPress, where apparently you can ban people by IP. I commented twice as "Barlowe" and dmarks alerted CI to the fact that it was me. After that I couldn't comment again. I submitted comments, but they were immediately "flushed" (to use another dmarksism). Or, that was my impression. I didn't get a message about the comment needing approval, etc. I clicked submit and... nothing. I looked at WordPress once, but decided against creating a WordPress Blog (there was a specific reason which I now forget).

I bring this up because, in a post on TOM's blog, he published "hate mail" he received and it included IP addresses. "Hate mail" I'm now convinced that he deserved (if he actually received it), as he PO'd a lot of people with his trolling. He was convinced that Sue and Leslie Parsley (and their "minions") were behind all of it. Although he could have (I believe) blocked it (by blocking their IPs).

BTW, as for "stalking" dmarks, apparently he believed that I was following his every move, as he once wrote (on Willis' blog) "wait till he finds the name I use on another blog. It will make his day"... I was curious about what name he used and on what blog, but I never figured out what he was talking about.

It's all Hillary's fault, the Librul media's fault, Bill Clinton's fault, everyone else's but the base of the Republican Party for allowing this freak to be a candidate for POTUS. 19. A Trump presidency seems even less likely after the recent revelations (Trump boasting of sexually assaulting women). But it seems some think he did well enough in the debate that he's still in it. I watched MSNBC pre-potus debate #2, and there was a lot of talk of Trump dropping out, but that seemed to disappear after the debate. If only because he made it clear he's staying in, I guess. And because he "apologized".

According to an ex–Apprentice Producer, "far worse Trump tapes exist" (far worse is Trump using the N-word). I wonder if anything else will come out before the election? Apparently there is also video of him harassing women on-set. Although the producer of "The Apprentice" is a Trump supporter and will go after anyone who leaks (5 million fine as per the contract of people who worked on the show).

Anyway, it looks like the last Trump tape damaged Trump more than what WikiLeaks has released (so far) damaged Clinton. Which would be that HRC stooges like DWS sabotaged B-S (although I don't know how many Sanders supports who might have voted for her, but are now voting for Johnson or Stein as a result). No Democratic politicians/politicos withdrew their endorsements though, unlike with Trump.

  20. I tend to agree Dervish. Johnson and Stein could be the spoilers this year. What we hope for is the spoil won't be a disaster.

  24. A quick look around the alternate universe of the Trump base shows that they either have no clue about what was revealed in that notorious tape with Trump and Billy Bush or that they are willfully mislabeling the contents, hoping people will not understand what a licentious louse Trump is. Right now the koo-koo banana base is claiming everyone is horrified just because Trump used the word "pussy?" Another clueless apologist is saying because women have read "50 Shades of Gray" they should not be upset with what Trump said, and still another squirrel brain claims that people who participate in or watch gay parades showing off nekkid butts shouldn't be shocked at what Trump said and did.

A few points on the above: 1) Trump didn't "just say pussy," he bragged about "GRABBING a woman's pussy, forcing himself on women against their will, and trying to "f**k" a married woman who spurned his advances. That's sexual assault. And so I can understand why the person who claimed "he only said "pussy" would ignore the criminal behavior behind what Trump bragged about. That's dishonest in the extreme.

    2) Comparing women who freely choose to read a book no more shocking than "Lady Chatterly's Lover" or "The Tropic of Capricon" to women who are the victims of Trump's unwanted sexual predations is just plain stupid, and that the people who use that comparison to dismiss Trump's sexual assaults as harmless are, in a word, dumb as dirt.

A gay parade with naked butts vs. a man who sexually assaults women are not the same things. Not even close. But the "morans" who use the parade analogy to compare them and dismiss Trump's behavior prove to anyone who reads that nonsense that they have absolutely no reasoning skills and definitely belong in what Bobby Jindal called the present GOP: The Stupid Party.
