Food For Thought......

It is not often these days that I post commentary from a "conservative" weblog. Today is different. Having come across a post at Always On Watch I believe has merit because it offers up great food for thought I decided to reproduce it on the pages this weblog. My hope is it generates some conversation that is thoughtful as well as respectful. Destructive Destruction Silverfiddle Rant! Apologies to John Prine … Daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County, Where good jobs are boomin' and men get good pay. I'm sorry my son but you're too late in askin' Mr. Jeff Bezos' website done hauled them away. You can’t bring those Sears jobs Back Is retail dead, destined for the obituaries along with the whale blubber industry that was replaced by kerosene lamps, which were replaced by the lightbulb? What kind of new economy will give people meaningful work as technology ends up doing so much of what humans used to earn their l...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny The Question Is... To Where? Mark Steyn is a breath of fresh air on occasion. His article following is certainly one of those times. NATIONAL REVIEW - One of the reasons why Barack Obama is regarded as the greatest orator of our age is that he’s always banging on about some other age yet to come — e.g., the Future! A future of whose contours he is remarkably certain and boundlessly confident: The future will belong to nations that invest in education because the children are our future, but the future will not belong to nations that do not invest in green-energy projects because solar-powered prompters are our future, and most of all the future will belong to people who look back at the Obama era and marvel that there was a courageous far-sighted man willing to take on the tough task of slowing the rise of the oceans because the future will belong to people on viable land masses. This futuristic shtick is a cheap’...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Rodin - The Thinker \ I've been thinking. Or perhaps more accurately stated I've been trying to think above the noise of the thoughtless. I mean really, does anyone actually think ENTIRELY for themselves? Or do most wait to test which way the wind is blowing on any given day, week, month, or year? After three years of blogging, visiting conservative, moderate, and liberal sites it seem most follow the blast of some unseen fog horn announcing the proper and correct path all good sheeples should follow. Without question. I should know. I've been one of those fog horns from time to time. For many this works. After all it IS the easy path. Letting others decide what the proper and reasonable path to liberty and happiness is. Just believe and ye shall be rewarded with eternal blissful happiness. After all, isn't everyone too busy trying to earn a living, assuming of course they have been able to fi...

2010 And Beyond

Image
As we entered a new decade, one sure to be rife with problems, opportunities, successes, and failures, I found myself remembering the statue above. The Thinker, sculpted by  Auguste Rodin,   defines, at least to me, a rational thinking man   struggling with his desire to arrive at proper logical answers to problems. There are those who would have us believe the proper course of action is to address each problem without regard to principle or ethical considerations. Pragmatism is the avenue that guides them and it stems from their belief  that it best to identify a short term solution to every problem while not offending anyone of differing views. Pragmatists look for solutions that will please the greatest number with the least possible resistance.  I  started thinking of  our pre Revolutionary War days, our 1776 Declaration of Independence, and on through the Constitutional Convention that ultimately resulted in our Constitution ...
