And The Point Is?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Liberty -vs- Tyranny It never fails to amaze me. By which I mean the idiocy of both our justice system at times and our federal government in general. I mean, why are we wasting hours of legal talent on DADT that could be better spent on matters that really are of importance? Of course the matter will be mute at some point. At which time we will have done the right thing. But why the colossal waste of time and money? Oh that's right. It is, stupid me, all about the money the attorneys will receive for what in reality is a foregone conclusion. Whatever... It's the American way I suppose. LOS ANGELES — The military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy is back in place for the time being, with one major caveat: the government is not allowed to investigate, penalize or discharge anyone who is openly gay. A San Francisco federal appeals court ordered the military to tempora...

Same Sex Unions and the RNC

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism The old guard GOP continues to show why they are a dying breed and will ultimately be extinct within the party. What this old independent conservative is really waiting for is Sarah Palin to make her position clear on gay rights in general, and her position on the repeal of DADT specifically. The view of those vying for Chairmanship of The RNC as reported by TMP. I t seems increasingly clear that embracing some changes in the way gays and lesbians interact with society will be necessary for political viability in the future. That is, unless you're running to be the next chair of the Republican National Committee. At their debate yesterday, the major candidates running to lead the RNC through the 2012 presidential race pledged to hold the line on gay rights, expressing concern over the repeal of DADT and vowing to keep the Republican Party in the sanctity of marriage business. I understand the ...

One for Barney

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA A fascinating exchange between gay Representative Barney Frank D-MA and a CNS reporter. Barney certainly captured the upper hand {quickly} and never lost it. My take, don't send an obvious wet behind the ears reporter to pose questions with respect to an ethical issue with a seasoned BS'er. Especially when the obvious underlying purpose is to put the feet of the interviewee to the fire. Irrespective of ones beliefs in regards to the DADT repeal one has to agree "ole Barney" won the debating points on this one. Discussion at Memeorandum

Senator Scott Brown to Support DADT Repeal

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA It should not surprise anyone that Senator Scott Brown would come out in support of repealing DADT. First and most important is because to do so is right. Secondly because he is a Senator from the progressive state of Massachusetts. In this instance, and on this issue progressives for once have it right. But don't hold your breathe that this correct and rational thinking indicates a trend. Here is what the Senator had to say as reported in The Plum Line... "I have been in the military for 31 years and counting, and have served as a subordinate and as an officer. As a legislator, I have spent a significant amount of time on military issues. During my time of service, I have visited our injured troops at Walter Reed and have attended funerals of our fallen heroes. When a soldier answers the call to serve, and risks life or limb, it has never mattered to me whether they are gay or straight. My only concern has been whether their servi...
