Conservatism's Wrecking Ball...

Image
On the heels of today's earlier repost of a 2015 article excerpt about conservatism we follow with more TRUTH about conservatism  and its philosophical agenda. Resisting change in general and social advancement (think social security and social safety nets) almost exclusively conservatism is a political philosophy whose time and usefulness has long since expired. America must move forward. Not backwards. Greater liberty, not less is what is needed. More compassion and love, not otherism and hate is what is needed. America is better than its conservative agenda. An agenda that quite frankly can be summarized simply and accurately as one of ignorance and greed.     What is a conservative? We've seen a lot of them in 2020, refusing to respect the needs of society. The Heritage Foundation  says : "Foremost among [conservatism's] transcendent values is the individual's use of his God-given free will, whence derives his right to be free fro...

Conservatism In The Age Of The Tea Party and trump...

- MANY PRESENT DAY CONSERVATIVES- People so close minded the vice grip on their brain has rendered them unable to think beyond conservative platitudes and hyperbole. Breitbart and InfoWars often constitute their base of knowledge . Merriam Webster:     not willing to consider different ideas or opinions  :   having or showing a closed mind  -  He's becoming increasingly  closed-minded  in his old age.

Modern Conservatism In a Nutshell...

Rational Nation U S A Purveyor of Truth Conservatism is a reaction to democratic movements that challenge the authority of elites. After decades of "compassionate conservatism," "a thousand points of light," and "Morning in America," dark talk of class warfare on the right can seem like a strange throwback. So accustomed are we to the sunny Reagan and the populist Tea Party that we've forgotten a basic truth about conservatism: It is a reaction to democratic movements from below, movements like Occupy Wall Street that threaten to reorder society from the bottom up, redistributing power and resources from those who have much to those who have not so much. With the roar against the ruling classes growing ever louder, the right seems to be reverting to type. It thus behooves us to take a second look at the conservative tradition, not just its current incarnation but also across time, for that tradition provides us with an understanding of why th...

Claassical Liberalism -vs- Modern Progressivism

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Something for everyone to contemplate. Especially if one is to understand liberalism in the classical sense verses modern liberal philosophy or progressivism. Understanding the concept of classical liberalism, the political philosophy of the founders of the United States of America is essential in understanding the concept and principles of freedom and liberty.

The Decline and Challenge of Contemporary Conservatism...

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Universal truth... If there is any such thing mankind has been searching for it throughout the millenniums. With each new scientific discovery old, and oftentimes cherished paradigms are laid open and bare. Stripped of the cover of ignorance that only new knowledge and understanding is capable of exposing. Habits are a hard thing to break and more often than not new and enlightened thought is resisted in order to retain the old. It matters not  the evidence that rationally argues for change. More often than not it is met by resistance. Had all of mankind chosen to turn away from new knowledge to retain the the old we would still be living in caves as in pre historic times. Diseases such as the bubonic plaque, malaria, polio, tuberculosis, scurvy, pneumonia, smallpox, mumps gonorrhea, syphilis, just to name a few would still be exacting ravaging consequences on humanity. And the world would still be believed to be f...

The Problem with Conservatism...

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Today's conservatives often line up behind Ayn Rand's legacy and use her as the shining example of that which they profess to believe. Using her strong support of capitalism she has become a political tool many republicans use in a disingenuous ploy to further their crony capitalism. Liberals have typically held very low opinions of Ayn Rand, in fact she was often reviled by many liberals of her day, as well as today's contemporary progressives. This of course is due, at least in part, to liberals tendency to believe in, and support a growing statism. Rand was, above all else fiercely individualistic. She held that Aristotle, the father of reason was arguably the worlds greatest philosopher. And she viewed reason as the only absolute. While understanding the United States of America's system as devised and implemented by our founder's was imperfect, she nonetheless saw it as the best and most just s...

Thoughts for Today

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Libe rty -vs- Tyra nny Conservatives, usually the ones who least understand the ethical and moral principles of capitalism, proudly claim Ayn Rand as their heroine. Precisely because Ayn Rand was perhaps the world's strongest advocate for a true capitalistic society. Lets see what Rand had to say about the conservative movement... Today’s “conservatives” are futile, impotent and, culturally, dead. They have nothing to offer and can achieve nothing. They can only help to destroy intellectual standards, to disintegrate thought, to discredit capitalism, and to accelerate this country’s uncontested collapse into despair and dictatorship. “Conservatism: An Obituary,” Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, 199 It was the so-called “conservatives” . . . who ran to the government for regulations and controls [over the broadcasting industry], and who cheered the notion of “public property” and service to the “public interest.” “The Property Statu...

Rational Nation Rethinking Sarah Palin... and Her Value in Today's Political Realities

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism I still question whether Sarah Palin has what it takes to be President of the United States now or anytime in the near future. Having said this I freely admit to perhaps being wrong. She certainly isn't the brightest that ever had aspirations for the top job in our republic, but she certainly isn't the dumbest either. One thing is for sure, she is a Patriot and she does love her country and the heritage that is America's. Okay, putting what some will consider hyperbole aside, I have rethought the value Sarah Palin brings to the political rough and tumble of  two party politics. She definitely has strong opinion, she definitely has the ability to stoke conservative passions and mobilize the Tea Party, she without a doubt challenges the status quo of RINO republican kiss a* politics, and she is definitely an individual and as strong a feminist as we have seen in a long time. All of the above ...

Two Quotes to Consider

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism The following two quotes were e-mailed to me by a reader of Rational Nation USA. They were taken from a small southern publication called "Tidbits." I thought perhaps my readers might enjoy them. "We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one further." My take is that all those many billions of people through out history believed just as firmly in their gods as many do today. So who is right and who is wrong? It doesn't really make any difference to me.     Richard Dawkins, Evolutionary Biologist "A conservative is a man who believes that nothing should be done for the first time." Atributed to Alfred Wiggams As the RN USA reader commented,  "Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between the true conservative and those in public office today who call themselves conservatives." They have a point! Enj...

Is The Conservative Movement To Become History?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Being the father of independent conservative thought I find myself awestruck by the position of the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America. The two groups announcement that they will not attend CPAC's February conference strikes me as being driven totally by idealogical beliefs rooted in the dark ages. While they may claim the reason for their refusal to participate is due to the organizations "financial mismanagement and movement away from conservative principals" the true underlying reason rests in CPAC's invitation to GOProud, a homosexual activist group, to attend the conference. Having been a young man in my late twenties and early thirties {I was an independent conservative even in those days} I recall the idealogical dark age mentality of one Anita Bryant who railed against homosexuality because it would be the destruction of the family and family values as the religious right believes they ought to...
