Lets Get the Hell Out of Afghanistan Already Mr. President...

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Afghanistan War Protests It is time for the United States of America to pull out of Afghanistan and tell the Afghanistan people to go to hell. The overwhelming majority do not want us there nor do they understand, nor care to understand our republic form of governance. They still exist in the 7th century. So let them wallow in their backward and self destructive way of life. It is after all none of our business nor is it in our immediate self interest to dally there any longer. The American people by a 60% margin believe we should get out of the Afghanistan hell hole right now. This is one area where Republicans (the real conservatives anyway) and Democrats ought to be able to find common ground and presure the President to move now and move fast to pull our trops and support from the corrupt Afghanistan government. ABC News - Sixty percent of Americans say the war in Afghanistan has not been not worth fighting and ...

How Much Did You Pay In Taxes For War?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism You know, when a progressive sight has something that actually makes sense it is worth airing on an independent conservative sight. I just came across a post on   HUFFPOST WORLD that deserves an airing. First a nifty calculator to help you determine the amount of your taxes that went to support the 10 year Afghanistan war. Excerpt from the article: P resident Obama likes to talk about "winning the future" these days, but the U.S. is in a losing situation in Afghanistan. We're bleeding wealth and lives at an unacceptable rate, and things are only expected to get worse this year as fighting season resumes in the spring. Meanwhile, the Pentagon and their political allies want the president to ignore the clear will of the American people, who want troops out within a year. The military is reportedly pushing the president to pull out only an "insignificant" number of troops, de...

Ron Paul Telling It Like It Is

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) again making the case to get the hell out of Afghanistan. When GWB took us into Afghanistan following the attack'a of 911 he was justified in doing so. Ten years later, with additional loss of American live and nearly a trillion dollars spent, there is no justification for the United States military to be in Afghanistan any longer. The only justification for war is an unprovoked act of aggression against a nation and it's people. GWB responded to such an attack on our people on American soil after 911. We are there now for... well, I cannot think of even one rational reason. Ron Paul rightfully mocks the so called fiscal conservatives in congress for their rapid actions to defund NPR which may save 10 million dollars. Now don't get me wrong, I am all for the defunding of NPR. The federal government has no business funding any news outlet. Rep. Paul's point...

General David Petraeus - Progress in Afghanistan

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism According to General Petraeus things are looking up in Afghanistan. We have the Taliban operations either halted or reversed. This is good news. When America went in to this rugged mountainous country to pursue, and bring the perpetrators of 911 to justice we did so with justification. After the initial successful incursion into Afghanistan GWB's administration shifted military focus to Iraq, a country that supposedly had weapons of mass destruction. We still don't have Osama Bin Laden, and we never found the WMD. However, what we did get was over ten tears of  engagement in Afghanistan, additional loss of life, and a larger national debt. I digress. Back to the encouraging news from Afghanistan and Gen. Petraeus. With recent successes in the south that have set the Taliban back there may actually be a potential end this long and costly military engagement. Experts from...

The Afghanistan Quagmire

By: Les Carpenter III Rational Nation USA General Petraeus emphatically making the pitch for a continued presence in Afghanistan. At least until the job is done. Whatever, and whenever that may be. Does anyone else hear the argument for the Military Industrial Complex ? Or is it just me? Perhaps I am missing something here, and if I am please correct me. We have been in Afghanistan for nine years and have failed thus far to accomplish the mission  of capturing or terminating the life of Osama Bin Laden. We have failed to eradicate the presence of the Taliban. We have failed to win the hearts and minds of the majority of the Afghani people. So after nine years, other than satisfying the initial desire to get even with the 911 perpetrators, what have we actually accomplished. It seems very little of lasting value to the US, or the world at large for that matter. Given this why in the world would anyone believe a continued presence and...

Secretary Gates - We Are In It To Win

Image
Could it be that Defense Secretary Robert Gates is at odds with his boss, President Obama? Gates, upon arriving in Afghanistan on Tuesday morning gave the troops this message; "We are in this thing to win" This is certainly not the message sent from the Presidents mouth and in fact is contradictory to statements previously made by the President. When President Obama, aka The Commander in Chief, gave his lackluster and throughly uninspiring speech to military cadets at West Point last week not once did he utter the word victory. It should be clear in everyones mind by now The Commander in Chief has no concern for winning the war our American men and women are being sent to fight. Afghanistan, like Vietnam, may well turn out to be a war for the politicians. And it may primarily be about fueling the Military Industrial Complex so as to provide military contracts for the industries who business it is to provide the armaments and supplies ...
