Search For the Truth in the Terror Attack on Benghazi Continues...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny As the hearings continue more questions will be answered. As the nation becomes fully informed of the situation(s) and realities surrounding the terror attack on the America consulate in Benghazi, and protocol is put in place to prevent similar occurrences in the future, hopefully we will put the political issue(s) to bed and move on to solving a even more complex and threatening situation. The national debt and out budgetary crisis. Why It Matters: The question of what the president and administration knew about the nature of the attacks on the consulate in Benghazi has become a huge political controversy. In addition, the potential nomination of Susan Rice to be secretary of state has been endangered by the controversy. Washington Guardian - U.S. intelligence told President Barack Obama and senior administration officials within 72 hours of the Benghazi tragedy that the attack was likely carried out by local militia...

Will Obama Break the Law?

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism The President is very close to being in violation of the 1973 War Powers Act. May 21st marks the sixtieth day since BHO made the decision to involve the United States in the Libyan civil war. The act says specifically... "if the president does not get congressional authorization 60 days after military action, the mission must stop within 30 days." Washington (CNN) -- President Obama may be on the brink of breaking the law. At issue: The 1973 War Powers Act, which says if the president does not get congressional authorization 60 days after military action, the mission must stop within 30 days. The president formally notified Congress about the mission in Libya with a letter on March 21, which makes Friday the 60-day deadline. Inaction is angering lawmakers from both the left and the right who rarely agree on anything. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-California, tells CNN he believes Obama is trying...

What Is Our National Security Interest in Libya?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Historically wars between nations have been waged because the rulers of one country wished to expand their economic power and political influence at the expense of another country(s). The desire for increased wealth and power has always been the motivating force behind war. As Ayn Rand correctly argued, the only justification for military action (war) is in response to an act of aggression by one country against another. In other words in defense of your national sovereignty, or self defense. Makes perfect sense to me. I believe most people would agree. So I can't help but wonder why our national leaders {since the defeat of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan] keep getting our nation involved either in civil wars (Korea and Vietnam, or military engagements for the purpose of "regime change." Other than our military response to 911, which falls under - in response to an act of aggression -...

How Much Did You Pay In Taxes For War?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism You know, when a progressive sight has something that actually makes sense it is worth airing on an independent conservative sight. I just came across a post on   HUFFPOST WORLD that deserves an airing. First a nifty calculator to help you determine the amount of your taxes that went to support the 10 year Afghanistan war. Excerpt from the article: P resident Obama likes to talk about "winning the future" these days, but the U.S. is in a losing situation in Afghanistan. We're bleeding wealth and lives at an unacceptable rate, and things are only expected to get worse this year as fighting season resumes in the spring. Meanwhile, the Pentagon and their political allies want the president to ignore the clear will of the American people, who want troops out within a year. The military is reportedly pushing the president to pull out only an "insignificant" number of troops, de...

The Irrationality of Altruism

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Altruism can be defined as:  an ethical doctrine that holds that individuals have a moral obligation to help, serve, or benefit others, if necessary at the sacrifice of self interest. The altruist therefore will places their own self interests, indeed their own happiness subordinate to that of others. Ayn Rand in the following video montage explains altruism and how in its purist form it is an immoral doctrine and in her words evil. For a contemporary outlook on the irrationality of self sacrificing altruism Shane Atwell's Blog takes an in depth look at why Rand (and others) viewed altruism as evil. From Shane's article Altruism Empowers Evil: I've always loved epic stories of good versus evil. I love Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dune--long, multi-generational conflicts. But it wasn't until I read, and re-read, Atlas Shrugged that I learned a crucial fact about evil, a fac...

A Rational and Ethical Outlook on the Libyan Situation

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism 2011, and once again we see a progressive President Obama, with the help I might add of many RINO conservatives like Senator McCain et all, willing to pursue an interventionist policy towards the state of Libya. A decision which is inconsistent with conservative principles. Principles based on the founding fathers wisdom of "avoiding foreign entanglements", and extolled by conservatives such as Senator Robert Taft of an earlier era when conservatives were conservatives.. I could go on about the only justification for military action being an act of aggression against a nation and its people yet once again. However, fellow blogger and friend Wes Messamore who blogs at The Humble Libertarian  put out the following video/audio on the subject. His presentation is spot on. I am certain he won't mind my sharing it with the readers of Rational Nation USA . View It Here : Conservative have ...

Libya : Is War Imminent?

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Following  weeks of dithering on just what to do in response to Muammar al-Qaddafi's crackdown on Libyan rebels, President Obama appears to be gearing up for war . Now that the United Nation Security Council has passed a resolution giving the green light to the use of military force to protect Libyan civilians Obama apparently feels he has the cover he needs to respond militarily. Excerpts from FP : Several administration officials held a classified briefing for all senators on Thursday afternoon in the bowels of the Capitol building, leaving lawmakers convinced President Barack Obama is ready to attack Libya but wondering if it isn't too late to help the rebels there. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Bill Burns led the briefing and was accompanied by Alan Pino, National Intelligence Officer for the Near East, Gen. John Landry, National Intelligence Officer for Military Issues, N...
