As the World Changes Views and Positions Follow...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Purveyor of Truth Sen. Rand Paul on Monday pushed back against heightened criticism that he has flip-flopped on foreign policy issues, saying he has stood firmly against the Obama administration’s policies in Syria. Appearing on CBS “This Morning,” the Kentucky Republican conceded that he has shifted his views in some areas, including on what is an appropriate U.S. response to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. “As world events change, obviously you change your analysis. Five years ago, ISIS wasn’t a threat,” he said, using an alternate name for the terrorist group that has mobilized across much of northern and central Iraq. Paul acknowledged that his thought process on ISIL has been “influenced” by ISIL’s recent beheadings of U.S. journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and British aid worker David Haines. He had previously been publicly skeptical about potential airstrikes against ISIL, but just a few months after criticized...

Senator Paul Questions the President's Moral Authority to Lead...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Li berty -vs- Tyr anny I like Rand Paul. In some ways he is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise boring and oh so predictable and stale chamber. Having said this, and yes I think we need to resolve the IRS "scandal" as quickly and ethically as possible, to question the President's moral authority to lead over this is premature and questionable at best at this precise point in time. Especially in light of the small matter that the man in charge when the IRS "scandal" begin was a GWB appointee. From Mediaite - Appearing on This Week on Sunday morning, Rand Paul challenged President Barack Obama‘s moral standing in the wake of multiple controversies. “The constellation of these three scandals ongoing really takes away from the President’s moral authority to lead this nation,” Paul said. “Nobody questions his legal authority, but I think he’s really losing the moral authority.” “I don’t care whether you’re a Repub...

Sometimes You Really Can't Help But Like Senator Paul...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny There are times I just can't help but like Senator Rand Paul. Especially when he makes a bunch of sense and is working against the druthers of the entrenched establishment rEpublicans. You know the ones I mean. Guys like Frick and Frack, good ole John McCain and Mittens Romney. THE HILL - Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Wednesday said the Republican Party needs to be more “tolerant” if it wants to attract the younger voters that helped propel President Obama to a second term in office. “I believe a Republican Party that is more tolerant and dedicated to keeping the government out of people’s lives as much as possible would be more appealing to the rising generation,” Paul said in an op-ed on the website PolicyMic. “Most young people I encounter simply have no desire to tell other people what to do or how to live,” he added. The op-ed was a response to criticism Paul received from some of his Republican colleagues o...

Senator Rand Paul... A Real Maverick?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism It is early yet. While Senator Rand Paul certainly must earn the nation's respect, given the early and fast start he has chosen to pursue one cannot help but be encouraged. The Libertarian Republican from Kentucky appears to be, at least at this early mark, a maverick that will "question with boldness" the staus qua of the old guard in the Senate. Irrespective of political leanings or ideology, a true Patriot should welcome Senator Paul's independence. While not being a betting man really I will venture to bet that the modern day "statist liberals" will be out in full force screaming Senator Paul's detriments and fabricating all measures of untruths with respect to his motives, agenda, and beliefs. I freely admit that I will be watching and analyzing his activities, pronouncements, and votes. I will look for consistency in his actions and adherence to Constitutional pr...
