Rational Nation U S A Purveyor of Truth Silencing Speech Two terms have risen quickly from obscurity into common campus parlance. Microaggressions are small actions or word choices that seem on their face to have no malicious intent but that are thought of as a kind of violence nonetheless. For example, by some campus guidelines, it is a microaggression to ask an Asian American or Latino American “Where were you born?,” because this implies that he or she is not a real American. Trigger warnings are alerts that professors are expected to issue if something in a course might cause a strong emotional response. For example, some students have called for warnings that Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart describes racial violence and that F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby portrays misogyny and physical abuse, so that students who have been previously victimized by racism or domestic violence can choose to avoid these works, which they believe might “trigger” a recurrence of past t...

Rational Nation U S A Purveyor of Truth Political correct speech has held great popularity in some institutions of higher learning for quite some time. Enforced indoctrination is now on college campuses. Thought police are likely not far behind. "1984" (George Orwell's classic novel) may be soon to follow. Washington State students risk a failing grade in one course if they use any common descriptors professor considers “oppressive and hateful language. In another class, students will lose one point every time they use the words “illegal alien” or “illegals” rather than the preferred terms of “‘undocumented’ migrants/immigrants/persons.” Via: Memeorandum

Excerpt from Mediaite - “I know black folks have a had a hard time with slavery and you know, the government was in on it. And the government’s in on it again,” Bundy says as spaghetti western music plays in the background. “I worked my whole life without mistreating anybody. A man ought to be able to express himself without being called names.” In case you don’t recall, it was Bundy who suggested that “the Negro” was “better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things.” Video via You Tube: I do like Kamau Bakari, what little he said sounds damn reasonable.
