Folklife Concert: Techung with Tenzin Younden...

"Buddhanature is the innate primordial freedom of the mind, which is naturally imbued with wisdom, compassion, power, and bliss."        Karl Brunnholzl

"Seek first to understand, then to be understood."   Steven Covey

Techung is a Tibetan folk and freedom singer/songwriter living in exile in Dharamsala and USA. He is best known for his performances of traditional Tibetan music, dance and opera. Whether performing in traditional or contemporary style, Techung’s dual goals are to revive Tibetan music in the Tibetan community and to expose the rich performing arts tradition of his homeland to the world community. In addition to being looked up to as one of the key keepers of Tibetan musical traditions, Techung is also respected for the original solo and collaborative music he creates by drawing on both his own heritage and his familiarity with other world music traditions. Techung performs regularly at the Tibet House Annual Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall, with prominent artists such as Philip Glass, Patti Smith and others. In recent years, Techung has had the honor of opening for His Holiness the Dalai Lama's public talks in the USA, Costa Rica and Japan.

Tenzin Younden is a Tibetan musician, actor and dancer currently living in Boston, Massachusetts. At the age of 12, he was enrolled in the Tibetan Institute of Performing arts in Dharamsala India. In his sixteen years of residency, he studied traditional dance, music and opera. He became a leading dancer and musician and toured with the Institute in Europe, Asia and Australia to showcase Tibet’s rich cultural performing arts. He has also given several workshops on Tibetan performing arts in several European countries. He takes great pride in being able to represent his country by performing its unique and centuries-old traditional music.
