The Emperor Has No Clothes...

The "man" folks call the president of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, is floating the idea (possibility) of firing Doctor Fauci. As you know Dr. Fauci is the nations ranking expert on infectious disease and the person the "man" we call president ought to be listening to. Not only should he be listening he should be implementing EVERY recommendation of Dr. Fauci and other scientists as to how and when to begin opening up our economy again. A rolling opening rather than a flip the switch to full opening nation wide is the rational and sensible way. Why? Live depend on it.

Trump, as he has regularly reminded the nation, knows better than anyone and he alone can fix it. Whenever Trump senses that those around him are not paying the proper fealty to their master they run the risk of being forced out or removed (fired). In Trump's small world anyone with greater knowledge is viewed as a threat to his authority so he moves to either have them removed by a subordinate or he'll tweet out their firing. That's how an authoritarian with the mind of a dictator or king without clothes works.

Dr. Fauci apparently made the mistake of telling the unadulterated truth Sunday when he said had the federal government acted sooner with its social distancing,  closure of non essential businesses, closure of schools, and restricting gatherings to ten people or less we would have saved lives. Now, anyone with a modicum of intelligence and common sense knows the Good Doctor is absolutely correct.  But Trump, rather than accepting and talking about the truth and ways to prevent any future such occurrence, falls back to his favorite response. Cast blame everywhere but where it belongs, and or firing the individual that told the truth, making poor whittle Donnie look bad.

Enough of my take. Following are excerpts from two articles that go into further detail on this breaking story.

Washington (CNN) - Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday that calls to implement life-saving social distancing measures faced "a lot of pushback" early in the US coronavirus outbreak and that the country is now looking for ways to more effectively respond to the virus should it rebound in the fall.
"I mean, obviously, you could logically say that if you had a process that was ongoing and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives," Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" when asked if social distancing and stay-at-home measures could have prevented deaths had they been put in place in February, instead of mid-March.
"Obviously, no one is going to deny that. But what goes into those decisions is complicated," added Fauci, who is a key member of the Trump administration's coronavirus task force. "But you're right, I mean, obviously, if we had right from the very beginning shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different. But there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then."
WASHINGTON — President Trump publicly signaled his frustration on Sunday with Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the federal government’s top infectious disease expert, after the doctor said more lives could have been saved from the coronavirus if the country had been shut down earlier.
Mr. Trump reposted a Twitter message that said “Time to #FireFauci” as he rejected criticism of his slow initial response to the pandemic that has now killed more than 22,000 people in the United States. The president privately has been irritated at times with Dr. Fauci, but the Twitter post was the most explicit he has been in letting that show publicly.
The message Mr. Trump retweeted came from a former Republican congressional candidate. “Fauci is now saying that had Trump listened to the medical experts earlier he could’ve saved more lives,” said the tweet by DeAnna Lorraine, who got less than 2 percent of the vote in an open primary against Speaker Nancy Pelosi last month.

Daily Beast - President Donald Trump spent much of this Easter weekend, his first Easter sequestered at the White House in the midst of a global pandemic and crashing economy, in a rather predictable fashion: working the phones and rage-tweeting at The New York Times and Mike Wallace’s son.
At one point, the president even promoted a Twitter post calling for the firing of his top infectious-disease expert in the middle of a deadly pandemic—because he’d said something construed as rude to Trump.
Over the weekend, the president picked up the phone and began dialing various close advisers and associates to ask them their opinion on how soon he should “open” the U.S. economy and call for Americans to start resuming business as usual, according to three people familiar with the conversations.
The subject of when to ease restrictions and guidelines, as the death toll has risen in the tens of thousands and governors and the federal government have struggled to combat the coronavirus, has been a major point of debate within the upper ranks of the Trump administration. While the president has often advocated highly optimistic and at times even negligent positions on the crisis, certain key members of his coronavirus task force—including Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—have urged a more cautious, patient approach, particularly on “reopening” the United States for business.
And so the doctor appeared to weigh on Trump’s mind this Easter weekend.

  1. Look... agree with the pres or not, I hope we can all agree the question of when to "open up" our economy again is a huge decision. We can't leave it closed forever, we also can't open it too soon.

I for one am glad it's not my call.

    1. Trump ought to listen to the advice of far superior individuals. Cuomo, Baker, and Dr. Fauci (3 distinctly superior minds) ought to be at table making the decision. There are other governors doing outstanding jobs as well. Trump on the other hand is WAY OUT OF HIS ELEMENT. And it shows. Horribly.
