Another American Scandal...

It appears the nation of scandals has yet another scandal to its long list of scandals. While this time it is a local scandal (San Fransisco, California) machining its way all the way to national notice, it is nonetheless a scandal worthy of mention.

This time the scandalous party is none other than the liberal progressives exacting their pound of flesh from an actress that had the audacity of endorsing a Tea Party candidate for California Governor.

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) - SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — A famed actress is facing backlash in San Francisco’s Latino community, after she voiced support for a conservative candidate for California governor.

Maria Conchita Alonso starred in a campaign ad for Assemblyman Tim Donnelly of San Bernardino County, a Tea Party favorite who is seeking the Republican nomination.

Donnelly has voiced strong views against illegal immigration and was once involved with the Minutemen Project, a group that patrolled the border with Mexico to catch immigrants coming across.

“Politicians and big government are killing our prosperity, pushing welfare costs through the roof and driving our schools into the ground,” Donnelly said in the ad.

Standing next to Donnelly, Alonso jokingly translated in Spanish, “We’re screwed.”

Alonso is an actress of Cuban and Venezuelan descent. She is perhaps best known for her role in the movie “Moscow on the Hudson” which also starred Robin Williams.

The actress was to perform next month at the Brava Theater Center in San Francisco’s Mission District in a Spanish-language version of “The Vagina Monologues,” scheduled for a run from February 14th through 17th. The show is being produced by none other than Eliana Lopez, wife of San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.

“We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately,” Lopez told KPIX 5. She said Alonso abruptly resigned from the cast on Friday, given the backlash on the immigration issue.

“Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe,” Lopez said.

Alonso received an earful from listeners of Spanish-language radio station KIQI 1010 AM in San Francisco on Friday, after she said in an interview that she supported many of Donnelly’s views on illegal immigration. Several listeners took her to task after she used the term “illegal” to describe undocumented immigrants.

There you have it folks of the active mind,... the open hypocrisy of the liberal progressive left.

  1. You're doing it again, RN. You're using an obscure incident in San Francisco to blame an entire group. Why?

And you're usually the first person who comes to my blog and tell ME not to do this when I make a mistake and paint all conservative/libertarians with a broad brush. I've become more sensitive and qualify by saying "some" or "fundamental," or whatever other adjective to qualify the group I'm criticizing.

I wonder if you'd come and admonish me if I talked about troglodyte conservatives/libertarians in Ohio who want to bring back the firing squad as a means of capital punishment or the "typical" fundamental conservative who's caught cheating on his wife or diddling with little boys as indicative of the conservative right?

PS. I hardly think this is a "scandal." Just tribalism in all its silliness.

  2. Nope Shaw, reread the post... carefully.

I hit hard both "sides" wherever I run across absurdity. Usually you hit just conservative absurdity.

I am an equal opportunity hammer.

So sorry Shaw, I stand by the post.

  3. I read "carefully" and Shaw has it right.

  4. What that conclusively proves is the partisanship you share.

Carry on, your lockstep (or is it goosestep) is appreciated by your masters.

  5. Hollywood despises conservatives. Here's to hoping that this lady has a nest egg just in case the phone stops ringing.......And Les doesn't tar all progressives. He likes Jerry and he likes BB Idaho just to name a couple.

    1. You forgot to mention (O)CT(O)PUS, Joe K., Dave, okjimm, Shaw. and even TAO... there could be others.

Oh yeah, jmj when he makes sense.

    2. "And Les doesn't tar all progressives. He likes Jerry and he likes BB Idaho just to name a couple."

Not sure BB would count as one (a "progressive").. he seems more of a traditional common-sense liberal. Progressives tend to be more hardcore than that, more tilted in favor of the State and away from the individual and common sense..

    3. You're probably right, more of a Dick Durbin, Ron Wyden mainstream type.

  6. Alonso's another anti-Castro Republican Cuban, and this Donnelly guy is just another pandering scumbag of the lowest order. Support a pandering scumbag and don't be surprised if people call you out on it. I wouldn't book her either. Let her go perform for the tasteless, humorless, witless cons.

  7. Christ jmj, just when I thought you were starting to come around.

    Scumbag eh?

    1. "....Alonso's another anti-Castro Republican Cuban..."

His implication that such makes a person a "scumbag" smacks of some sort of racism against Cubans. But I've seen Jersey go for the throat of immigrants before, a lot like Pat Buchanan in that aspect.

    2. dmarks, please, God, for once, stop being so sleazy when you debate!

Donnelly is the "scumbag" in my comment. Any small child would grasp that.

And "come around" to what, Les? I am NEVER going to "come around" to the Minuetmen crowd's racist, cowardly nastiness.

      JMJ

    3. Yes jmj, I really have always known you will never get it. People who continually refer to those they disagree with as scombags and other choice derogatory names usually never do. That applies to left, right. and fringe.

      Delete
    4. They are bad people, Les, and they should be called out. Any decent person should be ashamed of associating with them. And this guy Donnelly is one of the worst of them. He represents businesses that directly benefit from keeping the immigration status quo by pandering to racist constituent elements. These people don't want to hear anything about making life better for everyone, they just want the Mexicans out. read about this guy yourself, Les, and then you tell me if he deserves more respect than I give him.

      JMJ

    5. 1) You missed the point jmj. It's is not about him it is about the way she is being treated for her views which do not fit the template of the progressives. This post is not an endorsement of the dude in the ten gallon hat.

      2) With respect to you. 99% of the time you disagree with everyone and every conservative view. You also apparently can't find other than derogatory words like scumbag for anyone with views more conservative than your own.

I will keep calling YOU out on this. When you use derogatory language as frequently as you do the words become meaningless and most people with perhaps the exception of the "true believers"like yourself stop reading or listening.

    6. Well said, JMJ. I also must disagree with RN... even if I'm risking being "called out".

    7. Hey, "birds of a feather flock together." No surprise there Mr. Sanders.

  8. "Hollywood despises conservatives. "

Sure. Just look at what horrible careers Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, John Wayne, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Clint Eastwood, Jon Voight, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Vince Vaughn, Fred Thompson, Gary Cooper, Chuck Norris, Gary Sinese, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Dennis Miller, Sylvester Stallone, Jessica Simpson, Kathy Ireland, Cheryl Ladd, Andy Garcia, Mel Gibson, Ben Stein, James Woods, Heather Locklear, Bing Crosby, Clark Gable, Paul Sorvino, Kurt Russell, James Cagney, Ron Silver, Glenn Ford, Pat Boone, Chuck Connors, Ava Gabor, Ginger Rogers, Scott Baio, William Holden, Shirley Temple, Dick Clark, Dean Jones, Ethel Merman, Jaclyn Smith, and Joe Pesci, just to name a few.

There are dozens and dozens more. Just google "Hollywood stars+right wingers."

If Hollywood "despises" conservatives, how on earth did those super stars listed above ever get any work?

The claim that Hollywood hates Republicans is false.

    1. If you're an established actor you can say whatever you want but if you're an up and comer you had better keep your yapper shut or you won't get ahead.

      Delete
  9. Of course you are right Shaw. Hollywood LOVES all Actors who have talent and the ability to make money, and lots of it. When it comes to money the bottom line is, if you are big at the box office it is all that matters.

Now, the people who make Hollywood tick (producers, directors, execs, etc.) tend to be of a more liberal or progressive mind. AND, there is no denying the MAJORITY of actors tend to the liberal progressive (democrat) ideology.

But again you are correct Shaw, Hollywood does not hate any actor that is a box office draw, regardless of political affiliation.

    1. And some of the list was careless, anyway. Dennis Miller, "Hollywood" ? "Bordello of Blood" YEAHHHH!!!!!

Jessica Simpsons? A singer and zitcreme huckster with a negligible acting career, also. Neither Simpson nor Miller make a good case about Hollywood loving conservative actors.

Arnold? It is a stretch to put him on a conservative list:

      Delete
  10. Yeah, Arnold is actually more liberal (as a so called conservative) than some liberal democrats I know. So much for labels eh?

The acting ability, or lack thereof, is why a couple on list are never seen in any serious role. Not their political leanings.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't see the "scandal" of this? I also do not why this "issue" is something that should make it to "national" prominence?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wow! We're in agreement on this. But, in keeping with the trends... We are the "Nation of Scandals."
