Were Slurs Really Shouted?

Yesterday, at a Tea Party gathering in Washington D.C. to protest ObamaCare, the racist card was pulled. Allegedly remarks that were racist and homophobic were shouted at certain black lawmakers and Barney Frank (D-MA). If  this is true (the following video casts question on the claims validity) it is repugnant, reprehensible, disrespectful, and lacking any place in American civil society. Rationale Nation USA goes on record  condemning any such behavior by anyone at any time.

However, to characterize the Tea Party movement in general as racist or homophobic, as some have attempted to do is ridiculous. Just as there are bad apples in any race, ethnicity, groups of people, nations etc. so to one can expect the Tea Party has some kooks and lunatics as well. But a few kooks and lunatics is not representative of the body as a whole.

Video that clearly show no racial or homophobic slurs being hurled at anyone.

Dana Loesch, of The Dana Show, a conservative talk radio host does an effective job of addressing this issue. Excerpts from the article.

"When faced with intellectual argument, and a litany of polls which prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Americans do not want this fake reform, this health control bill, socialists fall on the only tactics they know: identity politics."

"A plethora of shrieking socialists around the webernetz (again) defamed an entire movement today by insisting that these peaceful (even when being beaten by SEIU folks) protesters are RACISTS! and HOMOPHOBES! (they’ve obviously never listened to my weekday show) for – well, if someone calls someone a RACIST! or HOMOPHONE! then surely, they wouldn’t just casually throw the term out due to spite out of respect for those minorities who truly do deal with discrimination, right?"

"WRONG.

No, the word on the webernetz is that you are a RACIST! or HOMOPHOBE! for opposing big government."

And more:

"Let’s consider how the left has reacted to the black community involving itself in the non-partisan tea party: they ignore them. Keith Olbermann, others, they oppress by ignoring the contributions and accomplishments of such brilliant, inspiring black conservatives like Condi Rice, Lt. Col. Allen West, Issac Hayes (candidate), and others."

"Conservatives believe in empowering ALL, giving EVERYONE the opportunity to better themselves and seek greater opportunities. Conservatives believe that people control the state and not the other way around. They believe in true equality (stay out of people’s bedrooms, churches, and doctors’ offices)...."

The arguments made in Dana Loesch's article are spot on and rational as they get. Please click here to read the full text.

  1. Les: I listened to the video 9 times. At :11 there was something yelled other than "kill the bill", but I can't tell what it was. It was a one syllable word--maybe "hey"?

I'm in full agreement that any racial or homophobic slurs are "repugnant, reprehensible, disrespectful, and lacking any place in American civil society."

  2. I just cannot BELIEVE how much the media will make stuff up!

Can you imagine teabaggers hurling insults? Throwing money and talking disrespectfully to a person with a disability?

I mean, the media just has to stop this!

They make patriotism seem like a dirty word and patriots out to be criminals!

  3. Pam - I noticed the same.

TAO - Yeah, imagine that! Kind of like the 60's. Only in this case the media may just be .. well, see video.

  4. Just a thought, are "racial or homophobic slurs" really an more "repugnant, reprehensible, disrespectful, and lacking any place in American civil society" than the lifestyles (Yes, it COULD be argued that there is a black lifestyle!) that tempt some folks to use such terms in the first place? I think not. Such behavior IS in poor taste and IS counter-productive, so wise people don't do it, but I don't believe it's anymore wrong to call Barney Frank a queer than it is for him to be one. However, it DOES give the opposition the "victim's edge" when it happens. IF it happens (which appears NOT to be the case).
