Senator Mitch McConnell Opposes Voting Rights Update...

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, whose new memoir reverently recalls the signing of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, said there's no need for Congress to restore part of the law struck down three years ago.

The Kentucky Republican said the heart of the historic anti-discrimination law remains intact, and the Supreme Court correctly ended the need for certain states to get federal permission before making any changes to their voting procedures.

“What was struck down were the provisions that absurdly treated the South differently,” McConnell told USA TODAY. “They don’t apply anymore. It’s 50 years later.”

His comments seem to doom any chance Congress will act this year to update the law and restore the strict federal oversight of cites and states with a history of discriminating against minority voters.

If El Donaldo has done anything of value since his inauguration it is that he has shown the rest of the world, and some in America, what a red, white, and blue jackass looks like. For this I thank him, tenfold times over. The offshoot of this, at least for now anyway, is that this weblog is dropping out. Turning to things that will provide a positive healthful physical and mental environment, one that politics, the media, and the continual left-right struggle for total power only destroys. Be well.
