The really sad part of that graph is that both parties are below 25% in the true column. Less than 1 out of 4 true statements is unacceptable from anyone or any organization. Why do we accept it from our politicians?
Yes Jerry it is unacceptable. Why we accept it? I think the reasons may be many. Not the least of which is many simply vote for who they believe is the lesser of two evils. Also many simply vote without ever checking the truth of "their candidate or parties statements.
Of course there is always the truth people like to hear what they like to hear, true or not.
Do you think it will change in our lifetime? I am certainly not optimistic.
Well, the trouble you guys are talking about is the trouble with dumbed-down, sound-bite, easy-answers-to-tough-questions rhetoric. If you read Politifact a lot, like I do, you know the tiers of truthfulness are usually measures of what is provable or not, on to disprovable - essentially what is theory and what is fact and what is just made-up. The Dems tend to deal more with facts, while the GOPers tend to deal more in theory, a little. Far more often, however, does the GOP tend to deal in outright fabrications.
Your observation with respect to the GOP is one I completely concur with. At one time the GOP was aligned with many, however not all, of my views and principles. Since the rise of the neo cons, evangelicals, and tea-publicans the GOP has drifted into the Netherlands of fabrication, mysticism, and outright idiocy so far it is impossible in my view for the really thinking women or man to continue to hang on in hopes of the party returning to reality.
When supposedly intelligent folks can support the candidacies for president of the likes of Trump, Carson, Huckabee, Cruz, (Bachmann in 2012), and Santorum just to name a few, I had to scratch my head and move away, far away from the looneys that are in vogue in the tea party/GOP today.
You're both right on the money, as they say. It's not just that facts don't matter, facts are the enemy. Listen to them howl when anyone asks them a question. Carson wants moderators to flatter, not to quiz. And when they do get caught being ignorant or confused or lying through their dentures they talk about the facts being "liberal."
RN, JMJ, Cap et al... it seems that the one word many of these GOP candidates are unable to use is HOW!
How specifically Mr Trump are you going to make America great? How Mr Rubio, after your tax cut, are you going to balance the budget? How Mr Carson, do you propose to remake the health care system?
Because the minute these guys get specific, people will run for the hills.
It is reminiscent of when Walter Mondale ran for President. He told the truth... we're gonna raise taxes and Reagan killed him for saying it, and then after the election, pushed through the then biggest tax increase in American history.
We are short of revenue and have cut all the expenses Americans are willing to cut, so the usual GOP mantra will be impossible to sustain.
But they can't say it, or the GOP will no longer exist.
RN USA no longer accepts comments. The information presented is for reflection, contemplation, and for those seeking greater understanding and wisdom. It is for seekers and those with an open mind and heart.
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny As the country struggles to understand, and come to grips with random acts of firearm violence by unstable and unbalanced individuals Illinois is already taking action to further regulate firearms. Like the millions of law abiding citizens I am torn between the right to bear firearms and finding the point at which it makes logical sense to restrict that right. In a modern society in which the tools of warfare are advanced beyond what the founders could possibly have envisioned, and the efficiency of modern armies are such that the citizens would stand no reasonable chance against the modern army, does the possession of semiautomatic assault weapons have any real purpose for the homeowner and sportsman? If deemed they do should they not be highly regulated and restricted to HELP reduce the incidents of tragedies like Sandy Hook? I certainly do not have the answers, nor do I believe the anti-gun crowd has the answers eith...
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Lib e rty -vs- Tyr a nny American's are an interesting bunch. Stubborn and fickle at the same time. Especially Republicans. But then again I question just why in the hell anyone is concerning themselves with the 2016 presidential race two years out? I guess it's because we're... Americans? Public Policy Polling - PPP's newest look at the Republican field for 2016 finds some big changes from our previous polling. Marco Rubio, who had led all of our polling since December, has dropped all the way to 6th place. Rand Paul now has the lead nationally, to go along with the leads he posted in our most recent Iowa and New Hampshire polls. And Ted Cruz has already hit double digits. The numbers are: Paul 16, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Paul Ryan each at 13, Cruz at 12, Rubio at 10, Rick Santorum and Bobby Jindal at 4, and Susana Martinez at 2. Cruz has proven to be such a darling to the far right that he actually already lead...
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny As President Obama moves to decisive action on increased firearm control he is aware, I'm sure, of certain limitations on his authority. If not things could get very interesting, >TPM - Former Reagan Attorney General Edwin Meese, now a prominent emeritus official at the Heritage Foundation, became the latest conservative to warn that President Obama could risk impeachment if he takes executive action on reducing gun violence in an interview Monday night. Speaking with Newsmax, Meese said Congress may have to consider impeaching Obama if he were “to try to override the Second Amendment in any way” with an executive order. He did allow that there are some executive actions related to guns that Obama could take wouldn’t be impeachable. “It would be up to the Congress to take action, such as looking in to it to see if, in fact, he has really tried to override the Constitution itself,” Meese told Newsmax. “In wh...
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny As the nation watches (as well as the world at large) the United States House, led by the rEpublican false conservatives have us serfs standing at the cliff's edge as we look into the abyss. Perhaps, just maybe, the intransigent false conservatives are running out of time and their true motives are being recognized by the many who heretofore believed them. As more disgruntled past supporters turn their backs on the false conservatives maybe, just maybe they ought to look to history to find the ultimate result of their type of behavior and intransigence. Even a staunch Ayn Rand Objectivist has the ability to see beyond the present as he peers into the future. At least this one does. Echoes of our founding fathers are ringing in my ears as I write this. Eric Cantor, the intelligent yet blind House Majority leader may very well, and soon find himself the object of ridicule. As difficult as it might be for some to acce...
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny Unspeakable Evil Early this morning in Colorado a sub human man committed an unspeakable evil. Injuring many, and taking the life of twelve innocent victims by gunfire in a theater, this beast of humanity once again exposed for all to see what one single deranged individual is capable of. Today's national tragedy is just another in a lengthening line of senseless acts of evil by a few individuals that have determined apparently only their life has value and all others are expendable at their whim. Somehow during their developmental stages they didn't make the connection ALL human life is to be respected and that no individual has the right to take the life of another except in the defense of their own. For the vast, and enormous majority of people respect for all human life is a given. This vast majority lives out their lives without harming so much as a single human soul, for they understand that no ma...
A federal judge ruled in favor of CNN on Friday, allowing the network’s star reporter Jim Acosta to temporarily regain access to his White House press credential. "I will grant the application for the temporary restraining order I order the government reinstate the pass," U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly ruled from Washington. SKIP The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. “I want to thank all of my colleagues in the press who supported us this week and I want to thank the judge for the decision he made today. Let’s go back to work,” Acosta said outside the U.S. District Court. tRump got thumped for now. Because freedom of the press is a bedrock value of our democratic republic we're sure tRump will lose entirely at the end of the day. As the would be tyrant should. SOURCE
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -v s- Tyranny OWS, the movement lacking leadership as well as defined objectives having a reasonable chance of success. The longer it grinds on the more it look like a bunch of misfit radicals looking for the free ride. However, on the other hand there are certainly those who have a clear vision as to what and why Wall Street needs to change. The reasonable people supporting OWS are doing so to end crony capitalism, corporatism, the unethical practices of banking executives and mortgage lenders, as well as government bailouts of businesses. They also recognize corporate lobbyist must become a extinct group. Given the majority of people would tend to agree with the above someone ought to be asking the question, why doesn't the reasonable Tea Party folks and the reasonable OWS folks come together and pool resources so to speak? Tea Party individuals want more fiscal discipline and restraint so as to bring balance to national fis...
We are moving this running post up to front page this evening where it will remain until January 3'rd 2017 when we will return to single posts, hopefully on a daily basis. There is much to do in getting the TRUTH out about Donald J Trump, a dishonest, totally self absorbed, and dangerous individual. He may be the president on January 20th but that does not mean thoughtful and concerned people shouldn't challenge Trump at every turn and fight his agenda whenever it runs contrary to their interests and those of their family. More to come. BTW, be sure to read today's entry, 12/28/16, below. this is just one example AND, it is just the beginning. You've probably noticed the brief posts of late. Posts with very short commentary by the weblolg administrator followed by an article that goes into the subject in much greater detail. This has been done purposefully following the rancorous 2016 election, and because its Christmas Time, soon to be a New Year. This posting f...
The right, and by right I am referring to the far right. Those who spend time distracting from the importance of the issue by bringing up Bill Clinton, George Takei, or some other incidence of democratic sexual misconduct as though that makes it okay if in fact the allegations are ultimately shown to be true. Sexual misconduct is always wrong, regardless whether the sexual predator is a conservative, a liberal, a republican, or a democrat. It is especially egregious when the predator holds a position of power and influence over a younger individual, such as was the case with Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Roy Moore, an adult male in a position of influence and power allegedly pursued under age teenagers, one as young 14. The allegation states that Moore, while not forcing sexual intercourse did unclothe and touch touch the young teenager inappropriately. Moore was in his early 30's at the time these alleged encounters allegedly occurred. As the statute of limitations has...
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Purveyor of Truth As the crises on our southern border continues illegals are being shipped to Massachusetts by plane according to the Boston Globe . Apparently the feds have been keeping this operation "under the radar." Local law enforcement officials in the Bay State are growing increasingly concerned, as they rightly should. Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson is calling for sheriffs across America to "“mobilize” on the red-hot immigration issue and confront the feds over their failure to communicate with local officials." Illegal immigrants are being secretly flown to Massachusetts and kept in local lockups in an under-the-radar operation that has alarmed lawmen who are raising health and security concerns amid recent spikes in detainees coming up from Texas during the latest border crisis. “We’re all becoming border sheriffs now with these people being carted all over the country,” said Bristol County Sheriff...
