President Biden Commemorates Vesak Day...

Jill and I extend warm wishes to Buddhists in the United States and around the world as they celebrate Vesak. This sacred day is a time to reflect on the Buddha’s teachings, including the need to work for peace and justice, recognize our common humanity, respect and preserve the nature that surrounds us, and cultivate humility and compassion. The Buddha taught that we are but guests visiting this world, and for over 2,500 years, those who adhere to these teachings have enriched and strengthened this world we share. As we mark Vesak, we honor the American Buddhists who contribute so much to our country and advance our common values.

Lion's Roar - On Monday, a second annual Vesak celebration was held at the White House honoring the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha.

“It is wonderful to have representatives of all the Buddhist traditions in America gather for a second time in the White House to offer prayers for world peace and inner harmony,” Wangmo Dixey commented in IBAA’s press release. “In these difficult times, it is of great value to be able to gather in this way, not only on behalf of Buddhists in America, but on behalf of Buddhists worldwide and for all sentient beings. I am sure it will be a cause for great celebration and happiness in communities all over the globe.”

May PEOTUS Trump Reap That Which He Has Sowed...

Rational Nation U S A Purveyor of Truth This weblog shares the sentiments of the author of the following open letter to PEOTUS Donald J. Trump. Bob Weidman expresses what nearly 63% of the American people are thinking tonight to one degree or another. Mr. Weidman’s open letter was published in The Huffington Post earlier this evening. Dear Mr. Trump: On the eve of your inauguration, and with all due respect to the office of the Presidency you are soon to hold, the deference you have earned, and the essential decency of the American people: Fuck you, you fucking fuck. I wish there were other words, but these are trying times, and trying times call for honesty, a concept with which you are clearly unacquainted. And I have to say what’s in my heart. So fuck you, you fucking fuck. I am not going to pretend there is anything normal about your presidency. I am not going to pretend that you are entitled to respect. You are entitled to nothing. Not a chance to prove yourself,...

The NRA Solution To Gun Violence In Our Schools...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny 'The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,' LaPierre says. | Reuters The NRA Solution to gun violence in our schools will either be met with scathing rebuke, or it will just be ignored. Must admit, it's not a novel or new idea, they floated it in 2007 as well. One I am fairly certain my sons and daughters-in-law, like millions of others will have a real issue with, again. Way to go NRA, really thinking outside the same box. Politico - The National Rifle Association stunned Washington observers Friday when the group’s CEO announced a plan to install armed guards at every school in the country — its response to the Connecticut shooting last week that left 20 children dead. Wayne LaPierre called the idea the National School Shield program, which would rely on local police forces. It will be led by former Rep. Asa Hutchinson (R-Ark.). “The only thing that stops a bad ...

His True Colors...

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny The mark of a desperate campaign and it's candidate. Some might even call it despicable. CINCINNATI — A seemingly offhand utterance from President Obama has turned into a major point of contention between the two campaigns, as Team Obama tries to explain what the president meant when he told a crowd of supporters that “Voting is the best revenge.” It happened in Springfield, Ohio Friday as Obama was discussing the economic policies of the 1990s. When Obama referred to “a Senate candidate by the name of Mitt Romney,” the crowd booed his opponent’s name — certainly not unusual reaction at political rallies of both parties. Then Obama said, “No, no, no — don’t boo, vote. Vote. Voting is the best revenge.” It was an ugly and small-minded moment, especially for the end of a campaign when candidates usually try to stress larger, optimistic themes. Romney incorporated the “revenge” line in his speech in Ohio Fri...
