"Buddhanature is the innate primordial freedom of the mind, which is naturally imbued with wisdom, compassion, power, and bliss." Karl Brunnholzl Capitalism is, or is soon to become a dying economic practice (system). The reasons are certainly many, complex, and interconnected. But the primary reason is that capitalism, particularly in the USA, has become entirely focused on increased productivity to maximize profits and increase shareholder's stake, ie increase the wealth of individual shareholders. Which means in truth, as well as in straight talk, to insure that the real (and obscene) wealth is funneled to and concentrated in the top 1 or 2 percent of the nation. When self interest becomes the driving force behind every decision, and selfishness essentially becomes a "virtue" as it is with folks like Trump, then the footing on which a society stands on begins to crumble. Which is precisely the situation America is finding itself in today. In these pr
But RN, abortion! I asked my cousin who lives in another state (via Facebook) and works in a nursing home (or used to. I'm not sure if she still does) about this. She responded to something else I wrote but ignored this question. For her the choice is all about gay marriage and abortion. As a "Christian" she strongly opposes both. She also has a sister who gets money from the government because she is mentally challenged. And she is on a state subsidized health care insurance plan herself. Yet she is really afraid of Socialism. I've asked her if she thinks that assistance should be taken away from her family -- but no response. She says she is "not easily fooled". Right.
ReplyDeleteAs you know Derv I am not a fan of socialism in its purist form. Why, because based on historicaly data as well as life realities (observational) socialism has not worked well for the people under its rule. Capitalism is a much better driver of ingenuity, creativity, security, and stability. But you are right, the UDA has been a mixed economy, a blend of capitalism and socialism for many years. Frankly Derv my view is that in societies and economies as large as ours the mixed economy/government is likely the only sensible course.
DeleteGovernment is a nessessary "evil", I say "evil" because any and all governments restrict individual liberties and freedoms. They must to maintain social order. As well government does have a social responsibility, as do corporations. So whether a government is "evil" or not is simply a question of how much it actually restricts an individual's freedoms. I'd say corporatism is a greater problem and threat right now. Not our mixed economy.
If that makes any sense to you.
The United States will never adopt socialism "in it's purist form". The socialism that Dotard would have been better justified attacking Bernie Sanders over (had he been the candidate) isn't pure socialism. It's ridiculous that he's scaring people (like my cousin) with absurd claims about Joe Biden being socialist (or that Joe Biden is under the sway of the "far left"). Like you said, we have a mixed economy. Many people benefit from government socialist programs, yet are afraid of socialism. I don't get it. Why I asked my cousin if she wants to pay full price for her health care insurance and have her sister's government money ended. I suspect cognitive dissonance might be a factor in me getting no answer. She continues to post about the dangers of socialism to her Facebook page regularly.
