It's Still About Jobs.... Something The Government Knows Zip About

I think I heard a response lauding the Presidents ending of one war and passing historic ObamaCare, that legislation that puts the finishing touches on state controlled healthcare.

Somewhere in there is a veiled reference {I think} to maybe the President failed to do enough to focus on job creation. That of course would be right except for the fact government cannot create jobs, it can only regulate and manipulate job growth through bureaucratic statist regulatory control and taxation.

You my readership be the judge.

  1. To say 'the government knows zip about jobs' is a simplistic platitude. I wish conservatives would rise above such tripe.

  2. And I will say the same about liberal sheeple platitudes as well!

  3. Les,

    You rightly said:
"That of course would be right except for the fact government cannot create jobs, it can only regulate and manipulate job growth through bureaucratic statist regulatory control and taxation."

True independent conservatives who detest what our federal government has become due to the machinations of both mainline parties all agree to this statement and fully grasp its meaning. How I wish that the federal government would simply leave us the hell alone to make it or fail of our own accord. Especially when it comes to jobs.

    Nicely and succinctly spoken, sir.

@JMJ, seriously, what Les said there really is at the core of independent conservatism. It is offensive to us to consider that our current statist government feels it can interfere with/interrupt capitalism.

We all know that this year Congress will have a Republican face. Does this mean that we, as independent conservatives, are all running through the streets like madmen, screaming out our "victory" in Congress? Not at all. There is a big difference between independent conservatism and the GOP, and I hope you see that.

Less government. More individual freedom. How can this be a bad thing? Unless of course a person needs to be treated like a helpless moron who cannot do for themself, that is. Is that you, JMJ? Are you really that kind of person? Do you need government to make your life easier? I sincerely hope not. I sincerely hope your comments here are done to simply 'stir things up' and you really don't believe in big government that resembles Socialism.

Even as independent conservatives, Les and I do not agree totally across the board. But on the big issue of less government control, we do agree. I hope that some of his words will rub off on you, in a good way :), and you will stop and consider that maybe being a liberal puppet isn't all it's cracked up to be.

BTW, Happy New Year, to you as well! (Kinda late to mention it, but....I've been busy.)

  4. "We all know that this year Congress will have a Republican face."

Just a little correction is needed here. ONE house of Congress will have a Republican face. The Democratic Party still is the majority in the Senate, and the executive branch is headed by a Democrat.

I've read on many right-leaning blogs recently that the American people "threw the liberals out."

Of course that's hyperbole--especially when one realizes that a very small percentage of American voters participated in the mid-term elections.

And even though I don't always pay attention to polls, it is interesting to note that recent Gallup polls show that the American people favor Mr. Obama AND the Congressional Democrats over the Republicans.

I think, before people on the right claim Americans favor them, they should look at reality.

  5. Shaw - The house that "controls the purse strings" sifted significantly. And it shifted to the conservative side.

Independent conservatives have a problem with Republicans and Democrats alike, especially with respect to how they view fiscal responsibility and the proper role of government.

Neither major party today understands the American people or what the government's role should be.

Perhaps with a new house we will get some actual fiscal sanity and responsibility moving forward. If not there is always another election cycle.

  6. Well, I'm no fan of any platitudes either, Les, regardless of where they come from.

Anonymous, you can not have a capitalist system without government involvement. The system would collapse instantly. The question should be how the government is involved, not whether they should be at all.

  7. JMJ - A fact conveniently forgotten by both the right and the left is this, there has never been a capitalist system in which the governemnt has NOT AT ANY TIME been involved.

Therefore, until such time as that ideal is tested in practice no one really knows for sure what the outcome would be.

What we do know is this...Government has, along the way of it's granting special interest to chosen groups {that would be pull peddlers to you fake capitalists} and special subsidies and helping the too big to fail group most recently, has in fact got us to where we are today.

Eventually reason and rationality will prevail. Unfortunately it won't be until society as a whole pays the exacting price of it's failure to act objectively.

So, lets all buckle up, put on our governemnt sponsored and safety approved helmets and get ready for the rocky and self destructive ride!

It will be educational, especially for the left, and a real sickening rush for those who actually "get it"

Lights out anyone? It is only a matter of time.

  8. Les,

What you said was so freaking good, it needs to be repeated.
