Quotes From A Peaceful Religion... Or Is It?

During President Obama's seventy five minute press conference to discuss primarily the economy he also addressed the escalating religious tensions gripping the nation. The result of the proposed Mosque near Ground Zero, and the Reverend Jones who gained international attention over his plan to burn copies of the Koran.
In as much as the developers of the Mosque have a right to build near Ground Zero, so does The Reverend Jones have the right to burn any book he so chooses. Both action are ill advised and insensitive acts that rather than resolving problems only serves to heighten the intensity.
To the presidents credit he acknowledged the rights of the respective parties to act as they see fit. It is however unfortunate the President failed to speak out forcefully on just how insensitive a Mosque near Ground Zero is to the people of New York, and the American people in general. He found no such problem doing so when it came to the Reverend Jones planned Koran torching ceremony.
In reading yesterday's The HillI was again taken back by the President's reference to Islam as a peaceful religion, and his failure to recognize and point to the truth. Just as GWB before him he espoused religious tolerance and pluralism.

“I've got Muslims who are fighting in Afghanistan in the uniform of the United States armed services,” Obama said. “They're out there putting their lives on the line for us, and we've got to make sure that we are crystal clear, for our sakes and their sakes, they are Americans, and we honor their service.”
As commander in chief, Obama said he asked Defense Secretary Robert Gates to call Florida pastor Terry Jones, whom Obama did not name, and ask that he not go forward with the Quran burning.
“This is a way of endangering our troops, our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, who are sacrificing for us to keep us safe,” Obama said. “And you don't play games with that.”
Obama referenced his own Christian faith, something many Americans doubt according to polls, and spoke of his admiration for former President George W. Bush's call for unity after 9/11.
“One of the things that I most admired about President Bush was, after 9/11, him being crystal clear about the fact that we were not at war with Islam,” Obama said. “We were at war with terrorists and murderers who had perverted Islam, had stolen its banner to carry out their outrageous acts.”
The absolutely inaccurate and misleading statement in the above is, “We were at war with terrorists and murderers who had perverted Islam, had stolen its banner to carry out their outrageous acts.”
I fully understand the President's desire to improve relations with the Muslim world. And I understand equally that there are good peace loving Muslims that also wish for improved relations with the Christian and Jewish people of the world. It is something we should all wish for and work towards.
What needs to be acknowledged and spoken is this; the United States, along with the majority of the Western World have been tolerant and accepting of Muslims in general. What the people of the United States are against is the extreme element within the faith of Islam that calls for Jihad (Holy War) against all infidels. Which is to say all non believers of Islam or those who refuse to submit to the Koranic teachings and Sharia law.
The Holy Book of Islam, the Koran is replete with verses advocating violence against the infidels, or non believers. Following are but a few examples of many. For those who seek more knowledge a I suggest a reading of the Koran beginning with the Sura.
O Prophet! Make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites. Be harsh
with them. Their ultimate abode is hell, a hapless journey's end. -
9:73
O believers take not Jews and Christians as friends; they are friends
of each other. Those of you who make them his friends is one of them.
God does not guide an unjust people. - 5:54
Allah will humble the unbelievers. Allah and His apostle are free from
obligations to idol-worshipers. Proclaim a woeful punishment to the
unbelievers. - 9:2-3
When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find
them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for
them. - 9:5
Whether unarmed or well-equipped, march on and fight for the cause of
Allah, with your wealth and your persons. - 9:41
Muhammad is Allah's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the
unbelievers but merciful to one another. Through them, Allah seeks to
enrage the unbelievers. - 48:29
Given the Koran is the guiding book for devout Muslims is it any wonder why the world is seeing violence against Christians and Jews by Muslim Jihadist? And in as much as there are millions of peaceful Muslim does it not seem reasonable that Islam revise it's 7th century Holy Book, much as the Jewish and Christians have done.
The only force that can rid Islam of it's violent Jihad element rests within the faith itself. Those who are indeed peaceful and seek to live peacefully amongst the Jews, Christians, and all others of different religious beliefs must do the hard work to rid their religion of violence. Only when the majority that proclaim Islam as their faith stand up and loudly condemn the Jihadist terrorists in their religion will there be a chance of eradicating it.
It is also time our President (present and former) stand up and speak the truth with respect to the writings between the covers of the Koran. Pandering to Muslims in the hope we an change the reality that a significant number of Muslims hold with the violent verses of the Koran is simply sticking our heads in the sands and placing our faith in the goodwill of peaceful Muslims that so far have been hesitant to stand against there more extreme element.
