Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer joined Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and top White House officials as they landed in Pittsburgh.
While Dermer agreed to join the president, other big names in Washington turned down the honor – House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, House Majority and Minority Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority and Minority leaders Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, all turned down invitations.
A list of local officials, including Pittsburgh mayor, Bill Peduto, also declined their invitations to meet with the visiting president. The mayor had publicly advised the president to delay his visit so that the community’s attention could be focused on embracing the victims.

Members of Pittsburgh's Jewish community said earlier Tuesday that they would protest against Trump if he came to Pittsburgh. In an announcement for the protest to be held on Tuesday afternoon, organizers said, "President Trump, words have consequences."

The announcement also echoed an open letter from a group of local Jewish leaders who told Trump: "You are not welcome in Pittsburgh until you fully denounce white nationalism."
More than 43,000 people have signed the letter, organized and posted online by the Pittsburgh chapter of Bend the Arc, a Jewish organization opposed to what it calls "the immoral agenda of the Trump administration and the Republican Party."

RN... while the deeply partisan extremists can't, or won't see it, it's become obvious. Almost 70% of Americans believe Trump has damaged the dignity of the office of the presidency. 69% want his speech and behavior to be more inline with past presidents. A great majority of the people want Pres Trump to be more "presidential".
ReplyDeleteNow I know the extreme folks will say too bad, he is already the Pres. I get that. But America is not happy or proud with Trump in office, even as they celebrate growing 401K's and a good economy.
The mid term elections will be interesting. Will America hold her nose and vote for his enablers, or will she vote in a group of folks who will work to hold our Pres accountable and rein in his worst instincts?

ReplyDeleteTry as you might your infantile vulgar comments will be deleted on sight LH.
DeleteThe Green Eagle website had an interesting chart about terrorist activities in the country. Are we not surprised that
ReplyDeleteUS Right Wing Terrorists account for most deadly incidents? They must be overjoyed when
Trump said both sides are a problem...
RN... I guess I'll have to head over the Stench Trench to see the comments from LH, because he's a notorious "cut and paster".
ReplyDeleteIn any event, I'm wondering why it is almost impossible to have a civil conversation with many on the right/conservatives without cussing, personal attacks, etc.
Is that what we've become as a nation? A people unable to calmly, and rationally discuss and consider the many of sides of the different issues.
Sadly, it looks like this is so...
Hey Rev, the guilt rests with both sides. Please don't paint the left as guilt free just because your beliefs lie with them.
ReplyDeleteRusty... clearly the left is not guilt free. But generally, with the circles we both travel online, only the more conservative voices are the ones resorting to porn videos, racist memes and a lot of name calling, although I do acknowledge that Les gets into the act also occasionally.
DeleteI've never used foul language when addressing anyone with whom I've disagreed, but have met with incredible vitriol from your fellow conservatives, and sometimes you. Why is that?
As a final thought, and I know this doesn't apply to all conservatives, but folks like Free invoke the love of Jesus and God frequently. And then they act nothing like God would ever act, in totally dehumanizing ways. I hold ppl like that to a higher standard than non God professing libs because they damage the witness and work of the church, not just here in the US, but around the world.
I agree Rev,you have always been above board and polite. Alhough I'm a practicing catholic I am by no means a man of God and all my life my language has always been a bit salty
DeleteRusty... I'm okay with salty. it's when ppl attack each other with that that it seems to go over the line. At some point, ppl have got to make a decision to rise above that. America will be better for it.
DeleteIt is impossible to have a civil, rational, and meaningful conversation with the rightwing tRumpers Dave. A group Rutherford is a proud member of.
ReplyDeleteHow would you ever expect a civil conversation with a conservative when you always begin you post with nothing but vitriol and hate filled comments. You readily express your hatred for Trump the man on rightwing blogs but with you it's always personal about the man, you never seem to mention a Trump policy you disagree with
ReplyDeleteIf you do not know what I disagree with regarding tRump that's on you Rusty. Further I do not any longer WASTE my valuable time explaining ANYTHING to extreme rightwingers. Especially tRumpers.

DeleteThe Senate Judiciary panel says no evidence found to support accusations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. They found No Evidence to Support Christine Ford
ReplyDeleteThe committee’s investigators "found no verifiable evidence that supported" Christine Blasey Ford's allegation that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed in the early 1980s and attempted to remove her clothes.
Therefor Justice Kavanaugh has been “Completely Cleared”.
What happened to Christine Ford? The Democrats threw her in the Dumpster a long time ago.. She is now irrelevant! Ford was a useful idiot, and she still is.
Another Reason why you should NOT vote for ANY Democrat!
"The REAL Dave Miller" is, of course, an impostor who lacks imagination to come up with an original name. He uses Dave Miller's name because he wants to annoy us, but instead he gives us another example of banal, boring, and peurile behavior we've come to expect from the dregs of the far right blogsphere. "The REAL Dave Miller" is one of Trump's admired "poorly educated" cultists.

Hypocrisy doesn't run in Rust's bloodstream, it gallops. Below is something he and is alter ego, R.R. wrote just this past March. But, of course, he's only being a good "salty" Catholic who presents himself as a sincere, loving choirboy. In fact he, his pals, and Trump, are misogynistic boys who obviously are scared to death of women with strong opposing opinions so they attack them sexually, just like Minus FJ did to me recently on Dervish's blog.
The #MeToo movement is real because frightened man-boys like Rusty, R.R., and Minus FJ and his sock puppets have no valid araguments and their only fall-back to counter women who disagree with them is to assault them verbally and sexually with disgusting insults and epithets. This is what the current GOP party welcomes and encourages. It is classically Trumpian.

Don't worry pShaw, you maidenhead is secure around all these geldings.
I don't know if these psychologically damaged man-boys are married, but if they are, can anyone imagine how they treat their wives? Those are real deep psychological hatreds directed at me and against women, and no healthy man talks about women they don't know that way. I pity the women folk who deal with them. How sad for their wives or girlfriends that they've had to settle for man-boys who are so damaged.
TRDM... nice try amigo. Too bad your comment here, having absolutely nothing to do with the post, is just a simple cut and paste that you've posted on other sites.
ReplyDeleteMore than that, it's not even intelligent.
As lawyers all around the country will tell you... an inability to prove the charges, does not mean innocence. Guilty people go free everyday. Judge Kavanaugh was not completely cleared. But... he is on the bench.
Now back to the post and whether or not the rhetoric of President trump played any role in the killings at Tree of Life Synagogue.
Dave, a perfect example of what you commented on is the OJ Simpson trial. I wonder if The FAKE Dave Miller believes OJ Simpson was not guilty because the jury said so.
DeleteIndeed Shaw... that's a perfect example. Having done some work alongside a capital crime defense atty in Oregon, I've had to learn a lot about those distinctions.
DeleteThe extremists call them loopholes or technicalities, the rest of us call it the law.
I wonder if my fake alias would then agree that Hillary Clinton has been "completely cleared" since there is no evidence to bring charges and multiple congressional committees also failed to find any criminal guilt?

DeleteWhile I don't believe Trump is completely anti-Semitic, I do believe his ugly rhetoric about minority groups, making them "The Other," and making them out to be feared compels weak-minded right wingers to attack and kill those minorities they fear and those who Trump has taught these weak-minded people to hate. This is what happened with the mail-bomber and with the Pittsburgh shooter. Try as he may, Trump cannot escape his complicity in the dangerous atmosphere he created around fearing minorities and the weak-minded who carry out their hatreds in Trump's name.
ReplyDeleteShaw, if we place the type of behavior we are seeing in the shooting up of the synagogue and the bomb attempts on an ex-president and sec state, we can clearly place the suspects on a left/right continuum of aberrant behavior. I think we'd all agree these guys fall somewhere on the right/conservative side of that continuum.
DeleteThen we could ask where President Trump falls on that continuum and whether or not he is encouraging to others on the same side of the ledger.

DeleteTo the "Liberal Hunter,"
ReplyDeleteA majority of the American people respect and admire former President Obama. And Mr. Obama is respected and admired around the world.
A majority of the American people do not approve of the job Trump is doing as president and have said that he has stripped the office of the presidency of its dignity. A majority of the American people do not respect and admire Trump.
Your ridiculous comment is grounded in magical thinking, not reality. That's what got Trump elected: people like you looked past what Trump is: A liar, a cheat, a fraud, and thought he'd make a terrific president. A man who's cheated and lied all of his life will never produce anything good and will eventually be destroyed by his own lies. We know this because for all the good news about the economy and jobs, etc., Trump cannot get past 40% approval. If he were a decent human being, he would, by now, be wildly popular with not just the bottom of the GOP approving his job, but with all Goopers, plus Independents, and many Democrats. Trump has not been able to capitalize on the economy and jobs numbers because his character is so utterly repulsive.
Election contests that should be walk-aways for Goopers like Ted Cruz in red, red Texas and in the governor's race in Georgia are more evidence of how people are repulsed by the man you admire. How the economy is behaving apparently is not the primary influence on how people feel and will vote tomorrow. If those issues were, then the Republicans would be riding a red wave. We'll see what tomorrow brings, but I'm looking at how desperately Trump and his cohorts are campaigning in what should have been a "gimme" election.
Your inane comment is an indication of the sort of person you are: a person who remains loyal to Trump despite clear evidence that he is an indecent human being, incapable of honesty, compassion, and dignity.

Shaw... Liberal Hunter is in a tight bind right now. Freethinke/Lobsterman is honoring an old departed friend so he can't post his tripe there. AOW won't accept off topic stuff. And the Stench Trench has closed comments. That leaves the usual suspects no place to vent their spleens before tomorrows election.
ReplyDeleteSo they come here and hope RN does recognize them too fast.
It's almost comical. And yet, if they could comment with decent language and make a reasonable argument, they'd be fine.
But they choose to highlight the worst elements of who they are.
Sad...
I apologize, RN, for reproducing L.H.'s stupid comments. You are correct to delete them. I just felt I needed to respond to his nonsense. That was wrong. Anyway, Dave explained why L.H. kept coming here -- no one else would give him a platform to spread his idiocy. Again, I'm sorry I did.
ReplyDeleteNo need to apologize Shaw, I instinctively knew why you responded to LH. Which is why I let your response stand.
DeleteLH is a typical tRumper sheeple. Which is to say he/it/she has no mind of its own.
So guys, any thoughts on tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteI'm going for a Dem House, a few Dem gains in Statehouses and the GOP gains a couple of seats in the Senate.
And Trump takes credit for a successful election, keeping control of the SCOTUS firmly in GOP hands.
😊 I'm voting for MA republican gov Charlie Baker who has done a PHENOMENAL job in MA, a deep blue state.
DeleteI will be voting dem for every other House and Senate candidate. Something I have not done since 1972.
I'll be voting for what I think best for MA and everyone who stand against the tRump idiocy.
RN... I voted here each of the last two elections for Brian Sandoval, a Republican for Governor. And was happy and proud to do so. GOP in my State Senate District race too because I've met the guy and feel he's honest.
ReplyDeleteI'm not the ideologue many seem to think I am.
Tomorrow is gonna be interesting.

ReplyDeleteI voted for Governor Baker. He's a decent man, a rare bird these days in the GOP. He was one of the few honest Republicans who were not afraid of saying he did not support Trump/ He's competent, smart, and NOT a divider. He's been able to work with the Democratic legislature. He'll certainly win today, and President Porn Star Shagger will take that as a vote for him, but it is not. Baker's victory will be a vote for rationality, decency, and honesty. Everything lacking in President Porn Star Shagger.
ReplyDeleteGovernor Bakeris the kind of politician/government official that tRump and his sheeple (the tRumpanzees) despise. For ALL the reasons you cited Shaw.
DeleteI think we can thank Newt Gingrich for the idea that you're a party apostate [RINO/DINO] if you dare work across the aisle in a bi-partisan way. While before Newt the majority ruled the roost for the most part, parties were able in a lot of cases to come together for the good of the country, even if it meant voting for the other parties ideas.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping it's a happy day today.
Here's hoping it's a happy day today.
DeleteA hearty second to that Dave!! It may very well be America's last opportunity to stave off a HUGEdisaster.
RN... today is so interesting. All day long people will say this is the greatest day of the year for America because we get to vote.
ReplyDeleteAnd then tomorrow, half of America will say we're doomed.
It doesn't seem as if there is any way to fix that.
I haven't missed an election for anything since I voted for JFK. Quite often our polling place is mostly empty, but
ReplyDeletethis morning it was jammed. The precinct locations inside the fair ground building had a steady business, but what
stunned me was the long long line of people registering to vote. People are interested and involved this time.
(for better or worse)
I'm 66 and hoping the millenials vote in HUGE numbers cause the old folks sure as hell have managed to screw things up really good.
ReplyDeleteI work in CT and everyone I spoke with that voted in the morning said the voting precincts they were at were VERY busy. A good thing! I voted at 3:30 PM in MA and the traffic was moderate.
I haven't missed an election since 1972 BB Idaho and I hope this one is historic. In turnout as well as the largest rebuke to a sitting president's party EVAH.
"Members of Pittsburgh's Jewish community" AKA the "Westboro Baptist Left" as per Minus FJ. Because protesting tRump while Jewish funerals are taking place is the same as protesting funerals because you hate gay people... apparently. I speculated that Minus got that idea from /r/The_Donald though he chose to neither confirm nor deny.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way to fix that Dave. This isn't the only election cycle that folks said we were doomed following election results they didn't like. But, has America been this divided and so "entrenched in their foxholes" since the Vietnam war in the late 60's? I think not. I could be wrong.
ReplyDeletetRump is a demagogue, a flaming narcissist, a pathological liar, and a crook. Just to mention a few of his most obvious character flaws. The party that nominated him and continues to support his agenda is as corrupt and slimy as he is. The GOP deserves to be turned out of power. For the next 50 years IMNHO at this point in time.
