Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer joined Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and top White House officials as they landed in Pittsburgh.

While Dermer agreed to join the president, other big names in Washington turned down the honor – House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, House Majority and Minority Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority and Minority leaders Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, all turned down invitations.

A list of local officials, including Pittsburgh mayor, Bill Peduto, also declined their invitations to meet with the visiting president. The mayor had publicly advised the president to delay his visit so that the community’s attention could be focused on embracing the victims.

Members of Pittsburgh's Jewish community said earlier Tuesday that they would protest against Trump if he came to Pittsburgh. In an announcement for the protest to be held on Tuesday afternoon, organizers said, "President Trump, words have consequences."

The announcement also echoed an open letter from a group of local Jewish leaders who told Trump: "You are not welcome in Pittsburgh until you fully denounce white nationalism."

More than 43,000 people have signed the letter, organized and posted online by the Pittsburgh chapter of Bend the Arc, a Jewish organization opposed to what it calls "the immoral agenda of the Trump administration and the Republican Party."

  1. RN... while the deeply partisan extremists can't, or won't see it, it's become obvious. Almost 70% of Americans believe Trump has damaged the dignity of the office of the presidency. 69% want his speech and behavior to be more inline with past presidents. A great majority of the people want Pres Trump to be more "presidential".

Now I know the extreme folks will say too bad, he is already the Pres. I get that. But America is not happy or proud with Trump in office, even as they celebrate growing 401K's and a good economy.

The mid term elections will be interesting. Will America hold her nose and vote for his enablers, or will she vote in a group of folks who will work to hold our Pres accountable and rein in his worst instincts?

In any event, I'm wondering why it is almost impossible to have a civil conversation with many on the right/conservatives without cussing, personal attacks, etc.

Is that what we've become as a nation? A people unable to calmly, and rationally discuss and consider the many of sides of the different issues.

Sadly, it looks like this is so...

    1. Rusty... clearly the left is not guilt free. But generally, with the circles we both travel online, only the more conservative voices are the ones resorting to porn videos, racist memes and a lot of name calling, although I do acknowledge that Les gets into the act also occasionally.

I've never used foul language when addressing anyone with whom I've disagreed, but have met with incredible vitriol from your fellow conservatives, and sometimes you. Why is that?

As a final thought, and I know this doesn't apply to all conservatives, but folks like Free invoke the love of Jesus and God frequently. And then they act nothing like God would ever act, in totally dehumanizing ways. I hold ppl like that to a higher standard than non God professing libs because they damage the witness and work of the church, not just here in the US, but around the world.

The committee’s investigators "found no verifiable evidence that supported" Christine Blasey Ford's allegation that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed in the early 1980s and attempted to remove her clothes.
Therefor Justice Kavanaugh has been “Completely Cleared”.

What happened to Christine Ford? The Democrats threw her in the Dumpster a long time ago.. She is now irrelevant! Ford was a useful idiot, and she still is.

Another Reason why you should NOT vote for ANY Democrat!

"The REAL Dave Miller" is one of Trump's admired "poorly educated" cultists.

Hypocrisy doesn't run in Rust's bloodstream, it gallops. Below is something he and is alter ego, R.R. wrote just this past March. But, of course, he's only being a good "salty" Catholic who presents himself as a sincere, loving choirboy. In fact he, his pals, and Trump, are misogynistic boys who obviously are scared to death of women with strong opposing opinions so they attack them sexually, just like Minus FJ did to me recently on Dervish's blog.

The #MeToo movement is real because frightened man-boys like Rusty, R.R., and Minus FJ and his sock puppets have no valid araguments and their only fall-back to counter women who disagree with them is to assault them verbally and sexually with disgusting insults and epithets. This is what the current GOP party welcomes and encourages. It is classically Trumpian.

Those are real deep psychological hatreds directed at me and against women, and no healthy man talks about women they don't know that way. I pity the women folk who deal with them. How sad for their wives or girlfriends that they've had to settle for man-boys who are so damaged.

More than that, it's not even intelligent.

As lawyers all around the country will tell you... an inability to prove the charges, does not mean innocence. Guilty people go free everyday. Judge Kavanaugh was not completely cleared. But... he is on the bench.

Now back to the post and whether or not the rhetoric of President trump played any role in the killings at Tree of Life Synagogue.

I wonder if my fake alias would then agree that Hillary Clinton has been "completely cleared" since there is no evidence to bring charges and multiple congressional committees also failed to find any criminal guilt?

  12. While I don't believe Trump is completely anti-Semitic, I do believe his ugly rhetoric about minority groups, making them "The Other," and making them out to be feared compels weak-minded right wingers to attack and kill those minorities they fear and those who Trump has taught these weak-minded people to hate. This is what happened with the mail-bomber and with the Pittsburgh shooter. Try as he may, Trump cannot escape his complicity in the dangerous atmosphere he created around fearing minorities and the weak-minded who carry out their hatreds in Trump's name.

    1. Shaw, if we place the type of behavior we are seeing in the shooting up of the synagogue and the bomb attempts on an ex-president and sec state, we can clearly place the suspects on a left/right continuum of aberrant behavior. I think we'd all agree these guys fall somewhere on the right/conservative side of that continuum.

Then we could ask where President Trump falls on that continuum and whether or not he is encouraging to others on the same side of the ledger.

  16. To the "Liberal Hunter,"

A majority of the American people respect and admire former President Obama. And Mr. Obama is respected and admired around the world.

A majority of the American people do not approve of the job Trump is doing as president and have said that he has stripped the office of the presidency of its dignity. A majority of the American people do not respect and admire Trump.

Your ridiculous comment is grounded in magical thinking, not reality. That's what got Trump elected: people like you looked past what Trump is: A liar, a cheat, a fraud, and thought he'd make a terrific president. A man who's cheated and lied all of his life will never produce anything good and will eventually be destroyed by his own lies. We know this because for all the good news about the economy and jobs, etc., Trump cannot get past 40% approval. If he were a decent human being, he would, by now, be wildly popular with not just the bottom of the GOP approving his job, but with all Goopers, plus Independents, and many Democrats. Trump has not been able to capitalize on the economy and jobs numbers because his character is so utterly repulsive.

Election contests that should be walk-aways for Goopers like Ted Cruz in red, red Texas and in the governor's race in Georgia are more evidence of how people are repulsed by the man you admire. How the economy is behaving apparently is not the primary influence on how people feel and will vote tomorrow. If those issues were, then the Republicans would be riding a red wave. We'll see what tomorrow brings, but I'm looking at how desperately Trump and his cohorts are campaigning in what should have been a "gimme" election.

Your inane comment is an indication of the sort of person you are: a person who remains loyal to Trump despite clear evidence that he is an indecent human being, incapable of honesty, compassion, and dignity.

tRump is a demagogue, a flaming narcissist, a pathological liar, and a crook. Just to mention a few of his most obvious character flaws. The party that nominated him and continues to support his agenda is as corrupt and slimy as he is. The GOP deserves to be turned out of power. For the next 50 years IMNHO at this point in time.
