Are You Tired?

Every so often I receive e-mails that are, in my estimation worth passing on. Today one of those just happened to be in my in box. It was written by a Marine Vietnam Veteran who served five terms in the Massachusetts State Senate. He, like many of us are tired.

This American Patriot makes many valid points. Anyone with a modicum of rational sense, whether they are conservative, progressive, libertarian, or some other political leaning will have to agree.

His experiences throughout his life have been many. For a quick biological sketch please read here. He also maintains a blog which he calls "The Old Jarhead," which can be found here.

So without further editorial comment I present Robert A. Hall.

I'm 63 Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes."  Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I'm tired of being told how bad  America  is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities  America  offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States  will have the economy of  Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of  China , the crime and violence of  Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of  Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela .

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln  wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let  Saudi Arabia  use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in  America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in  Saudi Arabia  to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a  three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next?  Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"?  And, no,  I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion.  I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.

I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war?  You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave?  Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are?  Not even close.  So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in  Illinois , where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making...... I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

  1. I'm tired to RN. Tired of the self righteous who think only they worked hard. I've had a job since I was sixteen also. I worked hard to make sure my kids were taken care of. I know personally dozens of men and women who have been laid off and are struggling to find work right now.

I'm tired of the pompous asses who think everyone that has lost a job deserves to lose a home because they bought too much house anyway. To be frank with your friend, I hate abuse and stupidity also, but to lump all those struggling into a group of selfish idiots that spent more than they could afford is disigenuous to be as polite as possible.

Unless your friend is making 250 grand a year his taxes didn't go up. His kids benefitted from a decently funded school system. Unlike now when because of the selfish who try to mask their selfishness through pithy phrases like "taxed enough already" they are happy to see teachers laid off and classrooms balloon to 50 kids. But God forbid we cut the military or touch his Social Security.

I find nothing refreshing from your friend Rational nation. Just the same old selfish rants of the right.

  2. I suspected as much from a liberal.

I view it as this... much of what he says is correct. To interpret it as though he means everybody in the situations you brought up is also foolish.

Take from it what you will and discard that which you are offended by.

Very much like I have learned to do with the rants from the left. And the incessant name calling the left is quite good at.

We all have our views and the rational ones on both sides generally, to some degree, keep an open mind. When the discourse is civil. My more liberal brother keeps reminding me of this. As I keep reminding him.

  3. Yes the poor are to blame. All the money ever spent on the poor in America doesn't add up to one overpriced and unnecessary war in Iraq.

That which the conservatives have been duped to call Capitalism is merely socialism for the rich.

  4. Grunge - Really? You are lucky to even be able to view this site much less let your presence be known here. The host is far too gracious to allow comments from those that write things such as this:

Once Republicans take political office they fight to re-enact slavery. Not based on race mind you, although there are unrepentant bigots in the Republican Party like Governor Robert F. McDonnell who longs for the Confederacy, most Republicans and Conservatives will accept anyone into their midst if that person espouses the GOP and Conservative principles of deception, theft, rape and murder.

Grunge, your pathetic brain-dead rants would be deleted within seconds of gracing my site as they should anywhere.

Les, be warned - this is the moral fiber of the characters that you are dealing with.

  5. Tim - You are quite likely correct. Perhaps I shouldn't be so gracious and allow the hate filled self loathing rants that a few of the socialist left spew on my sight.

But I kinda figure that in the end individuals of such caliber will only expose themselves for what they really are.

Your comment pasted here does exactly that which helps us expose the lunatics, hate mongers, and racists that unfortunately seem to populate the extreme left.

A dangerous crowd. They will continue to expose themselves with rants and falsehoods such as Gene babbled.

Thanks for stopping in at RN USA, you ALWAYS have something to say that adds value to my comment threads.

    Be well my friend.

  6. Pamela - Well said. Your response to Gene is certainly more gracious that I would have been able to give.

The rest of your comments... right on.

I guess the left thinks I an nuts or confused because I don't toe the party line. That's because I, unlike them, retain an open mind as do you.

  7. Les, Pamela - You simply will not find a group of people that are less 'open minded' than the socialist/liberal/statist left. Their credo is their religion and they hold to it as fanatically as those that pervert the world religions do.

  8. Pamela -
    Clearly the Poor are blamed:

I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

This is conservative code used to invoke the mental imagery in middle class republican backers of poor people sitting around collecting welfare. That everyone is willing to delude themselves that all the monies spent on the poor in the history of the US add up to the billions stolen in the name of "defense" is sad.

But, your rants at me are hardly the problem. The problem is many people have been brain washed to believe the Right Wing propaganda that we have a Capitalist society. We don't.

What we have are the richest 1% of the nation using their power and money to control the apparatus of government and a large portion of the American people who call themselves conservatives being content to be serfs and wage slaves if the Republicans they elect lie to them and tell them they are free.

None are so enslaved as those on the Right who set the chains of bondage upon themselves by supporting the Plutocrats and Their Republican Guard dogs.

And Rational Nation USA this is your blog so i don't have any intention of causing you consternation by pointing out the way america actually works.

  9. I respect that RN isn't filtering out opposing views through moderation.

Unlike so many right leaning bloggers that make up bogeymen to hide from guys like Gene or myself.

Pamela also deserves respect for this.

  10. Grung-e-Gene: I didn't "rant" in my last comment and this one isn't a "rant" either. I respond to everyone civilly.

I will stick with the statement that you used as an example but I will use it to show that Conservatives do NOT blame the poor: I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

The government WILL take our hard earned money by force. If we don’t pay our income tax, the IRS will attach our pay checks, slap a lien on our property, or throw us in jail—this is taking our money BY FORCE.

It is also true that that federal government gives out money for welfare/social programs. So, our taxes, i.e. hard earned money, is being used to support other people, i.e. poor people. Now, we need to determine if these “poor people” are “lazy”.

Let’s take a look at the woman in Rhode Island who stole $161,000 from welfare and was caught. Hmm, she pretended she was poor so she didn’t have to work so she could collect from a social program in which hard earned money from tax payers filled the coffers. WHAT would YOU call that? A poor victim or a lazy criminal?

There was a couple in LA County who purchased a $200,000 house with a $25,000 cash down payment; $162,000 in cash was seized; another $70,000 was found in their checking account; they had a Lexus, Jaguar, BMW and a vintage Corvette. What do you call them? They certainly WEREN’T poor! Wow, we ARE a generous nation!

Or what about the family that was receiving various forms of public assistance for ten years, but went on an European vacation! They had $50, 612 in a safe-deposit box. I guess they were stressed from being on welfare all those years—it was morally debilitating and they DESERVED that vacation on hard earned tax payer dollars, right?

Okay, I’ve only given you 3 examples of FRAUD/LAZINESS. But do you think those are the only ones? Can you see why people get angry? AGAIN, Conservatives don’t mind helping the HELPLESS, BUT get madder than a swatted hornet when the LAZY collect or when people SCAM the system.

Yes, some people are poor, no doubt, and we have absolutely NO problem helping those who are poor due to disabilities, health concerns, loss of jobs or circumstances completely out of their control, BUT we don’t want to help people who are more than capable of helping themselves. Is that so difficult to understand?

  11. Pamela - Bravo, right on. You nailed it.

  12. @ Grunge-e-Gene... You said

"The problem is many people have been brain washed to believe the Right Wing propaganda that we have a Capitalist society. We don't."

On this I agree with you. We have a mixed economy. One that is influenced and controlled by government regulation that is welcomed by the so called capitalists (meaning the largest corporations and financial interests) because it benefits them specifically at the expense of other competing smaller interests.

Capitalism - The Unknown Ideal covers it prey well.
