Freedom, Liberty, and the Future of America

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Freedom and liberty....  the principle that no single entity, or government has the right to subvert the rights of any individual  through force, or enslave them to the whims, dictates, or desires of another entity, whatever that entity may be. Freedom and liberty are the inalienable rights of all men and women who inhabit this earth. No one has the right to subjugate another to their beliefs, be they religious, secular, or any other reason. The right of the individual to their life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness {reference the Declaration of Independence}, as determined by their abilities and their effort, should be denied to no one. The freedom of opportunity is a right that was realized, at least for some, in all its fullness in America following the American Revolution. Principles and ideals that were borne of the Enlightenment and The ...

The Donald for President?

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Trump at CPAC. H/T: the Left Coast Rebel . Sure is sounding like the Business Don is seriously considering running for President in 2012. I am not sure what I think about that, yet, but do know if he decides to make a run I can hardly wait to hear specifics behind his rhetoric. At this stage, until I know more, I gotts put my support behind Ron Paul, assuming of course he decides to announce. Rrincipals do indeed matter, as we have seen over the last 18 years. I just ain't convinced of the Business Don's principles beyond making billions. As much as government ought to be run like a business, and Donald Trump could certainly do that, governments are not businesses. Running a government will not be like running Trump Enterprises. He won't be able to fire those he disapproves of. Waiting to hear more, a whole lot more. Because if he decides to run, and his specifics are sound, he may be ...

Rick Santelli on Morning Joe: Donald Trump for President?

by the Left Coast Rebel Not exactly a ringing endorsement here but Santelli makes some valid points on the possible candidacy of Donald Trump in the 2012 presidential race: Santelli: “I think capitalism has done well for this country,” it’s created lots of jobs. We have a pretty high standard of living all things considered – even with some of the slowdowns. Yes, I think it would be interesting. I’m not sure he’s the exact person, but I think he has qualities with regard to leadership in an economy that’s struggling, I think he brings things to the table.” I confess to having zero knowledge of Trump's personal and/or political baggage, his ability to stand up for limited government and the taxpayer or what his governing philosophy would end up being. I read a book a couple of years ago authored by Trump and Robert Kiyosaki, " Why we Want you to be Rich ", he confronts the entitlement system in America with some pretty good ideas. "Would he be a Michael Bloomberg-es...

Mubarak Resigns, Hands Power Over to Military

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Aljazeera reporting that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has stepped down handing power to the Egyptian military. Joy has overtaken the streets of Cairo and Alexandria. The people feel they have won their fight against a dictatorial regime and may now have a chance at democracy. Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian president, has resigned from his post, handing over power to the armed forces. Omar Suleiman, the vice-president, announced in a televised address that the president was "waiving" his office, and had handed over authority to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. Suleiman's short statement was received with a roar of approval and by celebratory chanting and flag-waving from a crowd of hundreds of thousands in Cairo's Tahrir Square, as well by pro-democracy campaigners who attended protests across the country on Friday. The crowd in Tahrir chanted "We have brought down th...

Do Words From the Past Matter?.... Should They?

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism "My ardent desire is, and my aim has been ... to comply strictly with all our engagements foreign and domestic; but to keep the United States free from political connections with every other Country. To see that they may be independent of all, and under the influence of none. In a word, I want an American character, that the powers of Europe may be convinced we act for ourselves and not for others; this, in my judgment, is the only way to be respected abroad and happy at home." --George Washington, letter to Patrick Henry, 1775 Times do change. It is true the realities of modern life are vastly different than those of 1775, or even 1950. Technology and the explosion in knowledge, all of which was made possible by, and began in an earlier era known as The Enlightenment, has given us the modern world me live in. A world as fascinating as it is challenging. And, unfortunately, a very danger...

Oprah and Obama

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism Now here we have it. America's Oprah Winfrey kibitzing with, and showing her all important support for the President. Seems she is "feeling" as though the President isn't getting the respect his shabby handling of both domestic and foreign affairs should warrant. Oprah in her own words recently had this to say.... .... “show some level of respect.” "I feel that everybody has a learning curve, and I feel that the reason why I was willing to step out for him was because I believed in his integrity and I believed in his heart".... “I think everybody complaining ought to try it for once.” She said the presidency is a position that “holds a sense of authority and governance over us all,” and that “even if you’re not in support of his policies, there needs to be a certain level of respect.” VIDEO Here's a news flash for ya Oprah. The President has bee in office ...

Is There Anything Truthful Out of the Obama Administration?

Image
by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Birthplace of Independent Conservatism The Muslim Brotherhood Once again the Obama administration shows it's almost unique ability to equivocate and ignore the fact of reality. In the desire to find "brotherly love" with the Muslim Brotherhood as well as other known extreme Islamic and Jihadists around the world we get this from "Der Leader's" administration. As reported   POLITICO . During a House Intelligence Committee hearing Thursday, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper called Egypt's branch of the Muslim Brotherhood movement "largely secular." Really. How so, please provide the evidence of this statements veracity. In response to questioning from Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) about the threat posed by the group, Clapper suggested that the Egyptian part of the Brotherhood is not particularly extreme and that the broader international movement is hard to generalize about. Do tell. Prec...
