Illinois Democrats Move To Tighten Firearm Regulation/Restrictions...

Like the millions of law abiding citizens I am torn between the right to bear firearms and finding the point at which it makes logical sense to restrict that right. In a modern society in which the tools of warfare are advanced beyond what the founders could possibly have envisioned, and the efficiency of modern armies are such that the citizens would stand no reasonable chance against the modern army, does the possession of semiautomatic assault weapons have any real purpose for the homeowner and sportsman? If deemed they do should they not be highly regulated and restricted to HELP reduce the incidents of tragedies like Sandy Hook? by: Les Carprnter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy in which 20 innocent children lost their live to a sick and mentally unstable individual the subject of gun control has remained center stage. This is understandable, and as it should be. The pursuit of finding improved methods to better identify unstable individuals and thereby keep firearms out of the hands of such individuals is a worthy pursuit. As we consider how to deal with increasing societal violence we must find a happy medium that will both improve public safety and preserve our second amendment rights. It can be done, if both sides of the gun control debate will start listening to each other rather talking A T each other. We are a nation of Blacks, Caucasians, English, Italian, German, Swedish, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Hispanic... the list is almost endless. Please forgive me if I have left out your particular cultural or ethnic heritage. It is not by design but rather the list is so long as to not allow for mention of all nationalities and races. Those who chose to come to America from places around the globe did so primarily for two reasons; To gain greater freedom and an opportunity for a better life. For the most part they did so legally, at least until the the mid 1900's,  and chose to assimilate into the distinctly divergent patchwork that made up American society.
