Why A Democratic Senate Majority Is Critically Important...
It is critically important that the democrats hold the house and capture the senate. A win by Biden coupled with a senate and house majority will give the democrats te oppoetunity to right the wrongs of the Trump administration. If by chance Trump wins reelection is is critical the democrats take the senate as it will give democrats the ability to stymie the agenda of an ineffective, mis-guided, and dangerous man.

In one, Republicans have held Senate control, and Biden will have limited ability to pass legislation. In the other, Democrats have retaken the Senate, and Biden can enact an ambitious agenda — fighting climate change, enacting universal pre-K, raising taxes on the rich and expanding both health insurance and voting rights. |

RN... no doubt, in 2020, the Senate is the great pearl the Dems should be reaching for. Trump is survivable, besides, he blows with the wind and will bend towards whichever party can help him do a "deal." But a Dem Senate will have power over every single judicial nominee, the power anunciated by the GOP on the possibility of a win by HRC, to deny judges for an entire term.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in the event of a President's death in office, a real possibility with both Trump and Biden, both houses of congress must approve the new VP nominee, so the Dems would hold a real checkmate there.
Going back to Trump, I still think there is a higher likelihood than not that Trump wins. If the Dems control both houses, we'll be okay. Trump will play ball then. You'll see Dem spending priorities galore. Think infrastructure and the like. Investment and jobs. And road repair. That kind of stuff. Sure we'll still have cancer, but it will be in remission as the power of his supporting cancerous cells will be greatly diminished.

DeleteFor the life of me I cannot fathom how it is trump still has the support he has given his blatant dshonesty and corruption. But I guess America really does have a very large segment of its population that cares nothing abut honsty, decency, empathy, inegrity, or doing the right thing. But it is what it is and in my view even if Biden wins and democrats take the senate the trumpers will not go away. They'll go underground and do any and everything they can to foment division and work to undermine trust in government institutions. Jefferson may very well have been right when he said... “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” - Thomas Jefferson.
Which is pecisely why trump loves uneducated folks and said so.
America's cancer will not be excised easily or any time soon. If ever.
It would be nice to avoid Totalitarianism. Heck, critical even!
ReplyDeleteYup BB Idaho, it sure would be nice. We'll have to see how it shakes out. I'm not hopeful given our deep political divisions in which party (trumpers/GOP) has become much more important than country.
