RIP President George H.W. Bush......

America was a better place because President George H.W. Bush dedicated his life to service to our country. The United States of America was a greater nation when he served as president than it is today. Current and future leadership of this nation would do well to emulate President Bush's example.

Rest in Peace Mr. President.

Though George H.W. Bush's presidency ended just a quarter-century ago, it seems like a different era altogether. He personified a time when Democrats and Republicans could work together and when international diplomacy was not scorned as a sign of weakness.
Last year, a C-Span survey of historians ranked Bush — who died Friday at age 94 —   20th of 44 presidents considered. A survey of political scientists this year ranked him 17th. Though both polls put him atop the list of presidents turned out of office by the voters, they may be a bit low for a president who looks better and better each year.
Bush was a thoroughly decent man, in stark contrast to the current occupant of the White House. To him, loyalty to country — whether in serving as the Navy's youngest aviator in World War II or forging a bipartisan consensus on air pollution — came well before party and self.

  1. He set a standard for Republican values and decency...which has long since disappeared.
Gingrich et.al. have devalued the brand significantly. RIP, GHW Bush- a typical Greatest
Generation man who will be valued by history.

    1. BB-Idaho, you speak the unvarnished truth. CHWB will be remembered by the historically literate as a Truly Great American.

tRump will be remembered as the epitome of narcissistic selfishness, misogyny, xenophobia, white nationalism, sexual predation, mendacity, and a general all around A-hole.

Times were DEFINITELY much better then. When America was really symbolised by that Shining City on a Hill and a Thousand Points of Light.

With the election of djt America gave its soul to the "devil". Figuratively speaking.

  2. My hope, during this time we celebrate #41's life and accomplishments, is that Americans, particularly the tRumpers, reflect on and embrace the character and examples George H.W. Bush gave the nation. Bush, unlike tRump, was a real leader with character, empathy, grace, and grit. A man of integrity who was respected because he earned respect throughout his long life. America would be a far better country today if tRump had the desire and ability to emulate President George H. W. Bush's example.

    We can only wish......

  3. When the GOP began its shift to the far right and the politics of slime, the 41st President, true to himself, stayed on
steady realistic course. The best example?
    "Dear Mr. Washington,

I was outraged when, even in the wake of the Oklahoma City tragedy, Mr. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of N.R.A., defended his attack on federal agents as "jack-booted thugs." To attack Secret Service agents or A.T.F. people or any government law enforcement people as "wearing Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms" wanting to "attack law abiding citizens" is a vicious slander on good people.

Al Whicher, who served on my [United States Secret Service] detail when I was Vice President and President, was killed in Oklahoma City. He was no Nazi. He was a kind man, a loving parent, a man dedicated to serving his country — and serve it well he did.

In 1993, I attended the wake for A.T.F. agent Steve Willis, another dedicated officer who did his duty. I can assure you that this honorable man, killed by weird cultists, was no Nazi.

John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.'s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.

Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government's "go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens." (Your words)

I am a gun owner and an avid hunter. Over the years I have agreed with most of N.R.A.'s objectives, particularly your educational and training efforts, and your fundamental stance in favor of owning guns.

However, your broadside against Federal agents deeply offends my own sense of decency and honor; and it offends my concept of service to country. It indirectly slanders a wide array of government law enforcement officials, who are out there, day and night, laying their lives on the line for all of us.

You have not repudiated Mr. LaPierre's unwarranted attack. Therefore, I resign as a Life Member of N.R.A., said resignation to be effective upon your receipt of this letter. Please remove my name from your membership list.

    Sincerely,
George Bush " MAGA- America has always been great, the Trumpian slogan is a blatant inversion: pure gutter
politics, reminiscent of the old Nuremburg rallies of the thirties. It is Mr. Trump and the far right that is destroying America's greatness. We lead the world in only increasing wealth disparity and trail in every other
measurement of human acheivement. Just a considered opinion....

  4. You're correct, BB-Idaho. Whether we agreed with George HW Bush or not, we can all acknowledge his patriotism and sense of decency -- both attributes sorely missing from #45. Just this past summer, #45 mocked George HW Bush, and #45 mocked him about Bush's call to Americans to help their fellow citizens by voluteering. Trump mocked that sentiment. Here he is making fun of a man who towers over him in decency and honor:

TRUMP: “Thousand points of light, I never quite got that one,” Trump said during a rally in Montana in July, referencing the former president’s motto for promoting volunteerism. “Has anyone ever figured that one out? And it was put out by a Republican, wasn't it? I know one thing, ‘Make America Great Again’ we understand. Putting ‘America first’ we understand."

What a disgusting, low, malignant swine Trump is.

  8. Frank... did you write any of that, or did you just copy it from some other like minded soul? Because the writing was pretty much put together at a 6th grade level. It was so sloppy and contrived it didn't seem like your original work.

My guess is that they are fine interesting people. But when they sit at their keyboard, reptilian emotion floods
their amygdala; their logical synapse sequencing is overridden by illegal alien elctrosurges across the temporal/
oppcipital boundary. This temporarily deadens their frontal lobe causing a scatological etiology leading to the
senselss drivel exemplified above. As they used to say in the Army, the rectum interferes with the optical nerve
and they get a shitty outlook. Just a guess, of course....

It must tough being a tRump supporting troglodyte. Or maybe not. Senseless drivel seems to be something that rolls effortlessly from their pea sized central processing center.
