We're Already Talking...

Well folks, this certainly didn't take long. We knew it wouldn't. Didn't we?

Is it possible that America has arrived at the point where personality and celebrity is as important as qualifications and character when selecting our Cheif Executive? It certainly seems so.

Or maybe this will simply burn out. But as one media "expert" familiar with this kind of stuff said last night on CNN, these things tend to take on a life of their own.

Rasmussen Reports - TV personality Oprah Winfrey is the likely winner over President Trump if the 2020 election were held today, but there are a lot of undecideds.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters would opt for Winfrey, while 38% would choose Trump. But a sizable 14% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Winfrey has the support of 76% of Democrats, 22% of Republicans and 44% of voters not affiliated with either major political party. The president earns 66% of the vote from Republicans, 12% of Democrats and 38% of unaffiliateds.

We'll have to wait and see if this gains traction.

  1. Trump lowered the bar for sure.

How long before Charlie Sheen throws his hat in the ring ?

  2. Well, lets see. Which is it?
    1. This is proof that just about anyone can beat Trump.
    2. We have not learned our lesson about electing entertainers as president...yet.
    3. Oprah is a great business woman and will make a great President.

    1. I agree. I think Trump getting to cover the inside of the Oval Office with McDonald's grease has emboldened others.

  3. Trump already showed America what it's like to have an inexperienced reality teevee personality who's failed as a businessman several times as POTUS.

Oprah certainly is a self-made woman, unlike Trump whose daddy financed him in his career as a real estate mogul. We also know that Oprah has human decency in her, unlike the current occupant of the WH. So she gets points for that.

But she shouldn't run for the presidency, and it's a testament to how awful Trump is that so many Americans would consider Winfrey who I'm certain is smart and decent, but doesn't know anything about our Constitutional government. She'd be great in some other capacity in any administration, R or D. Ambassadorship? She's a great example of an American dream, when one considers her background comnpared with the guy who's in the WH now. He was born on third base, and he thinks he hit a triple. LOL!

    1. Yes Oprah gets many points for her ability, hard work, and and perseverance. And she did it all on her on merit as both Jerry and You point out.

There is little question but what she would make a great Good Will Ambassador. As for elective office, I've decided that in this day and age entertainers, movie actors, and narcissistic businessmen with little to no character or integrity should NOT be allowed to run for president. ;)

True. She has crawled her way from the bottom to the very top.

    3. Revision: I meant to say "clawed", implying a hard life struggle to get where she is. Very hard work. I did not mean to use the word "crawled"

(which is closer to what Trump did, though for Trump I would say he oozed his way to the top; like slime that doesn't obey the law of gravity)

  4. I would certainy prefer a President Winfrey over a predisent Trump.

    1. I would obviously prefer neither, but, given only that choice I would vote Winfrey. Or, third party, something I've done more than once.

    2. I'd prefer her to Montel, Maurey, Mehmet "Quack Quack" Oz, Drs. Laura or Phil, Geraldo, or Jerry Spinger.

    3. Jerry Springer has experience (Cincinnati City Council and Mayor of Cincinnati). dmarks throws his name out as a joke, but he is a solid Liberal (had a show on Air America). I'd vote for him. He is, however, British born and not eligible to run for president. All the others would be eligible under the Constitution, I believe.

    4. I threw his name out as a joke knowing full well that Springer held office in a major American city (Though, until you reminded me, I had forgotten which "C" city in Ohio it was).

  5. Many people have worked their way up from the bottom, but is that sort of personality best suited for the most complex job in the world, a job that requires knowledge of a great many things like history, economics, science, technology and world affairs? I've had enough of these would-be cults of personality. The ability to make money and the ability to be president of the US are not the same thing.

    1. hen asked to grade President Donald Trump’s first year in office, more American voters chose “F” than any other grade, according to a new Quinnipiac Poll.

Thirty-nine percent of voters gave Trump an “F,” followed by 17 percent who chose “D.” “A” and “B” received 16 percent each with 11 percent giving Trump a “C.”

It's been a very tough freshman year for President Donald Trump, by any measure," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the poll. "Considered an intelligent person with a really bad report card, filled with far more 'F's' than 'A's' or 'B's', the president is a long way from the Dean's list in the eyes of voters."

Trump’s approval rating is at 36 percent, the same approval rating he had on Jan. 26 in Quinnipiac’s first poll after his inauguration.

Voters said by a margin of 69-28 percent that Trump is not level-headed and 57 percent of voters said he is not fit to serve as president. When asked if Trump is honest, 63 percent said he is not.

The above is as important, actually more important, than the 66% you refered to, without linkage we note.

Especcially as the Economy was operating on Obama's budget until when, October? We note that tRump has had a minimal impact, mostly the result of deregulation and the natural lack of ovrsight that follows. Corporations are freer to do as they please for profit, without regard to anything but their corporate interests.

      Now back to post topic.
