A Valid Observation, and, Some Good Advice...

Yes sir. We find ourselves agreeing with Woodward.

When you're ahead, gaining ground almost daily, and hold the high ground, it's usually best not to become guilty of that your opponent engages in.

TPM - Famed investigative reporter Bob Woodward suggested Thursday morning that “excessive rhetoric” from Donald Trump’s opponents was feeding the bombastic billionaire’s increasingly controversial remarks.

Calling Trump’s campaign one that’s “off the rails,” the Washington Post editor also condemned “hyperbolic, ungenerous rhetoric” from Hillary Clinton’s allies.

“I think it's got to be said this is not just about Trump,” Woodward said in an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “A lot of the people who really are opposed to Trump, I think, are engaged in some excessive rhetoric also.”

He went on to cite a Wednesday column by New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who wrote Trump’s children “should be ashamed” of their father for his remark about “Second Amendment people” and called the GOP nominee “a disgusting human being.”

Friedman’s opinion of Trump as “disgusting” is a “reasonable opinion,” Woodward said, but said he couldn’t recall another time in 40 years of covering politics when someone violated the “zone of protection” generally respected for candidates’ children.

“That makes no sense. So, the excess is feeding both sides on this,” he said.

  1. "Friedman’s opinion of Trump as “disgusting” is a “reasonable opinion,” Woodward said," Seems pretty reasonable to me too.

I was focusing on the above, which, I believe are in fact true.

  3. And yet, with a well timed release of some info damning about HRC, he could well be president. And then everyone in the GOP will forget about #NeverTrump and become even bigger suck ups...

  4. I really don't think so Dave. Unless the info is really damming, and provable. The anti Trump wave is building almost daily.

Except Donald Trump's children are grown adults who are deeply involved in Trump's political campaign and as such, are part of the politics of getting him elected. They are not 8 or 10 year old kids who have no say in what their father is doing. Trump has said (jokingly we hope) that he'd consider Ivanka for a cabinet post. Has Hillary said that about Chelsea? And yes, Chelsea, an adult, is fair game because she too is part of Hillary's campaign. When children of candidates take on the roles of campaign spokespersons for their parents, then they are subject to criticism like any other campaign operative.

  6. I'm not sure what th excess from the Clinton side is. Trump is off the rails. That is fact, not excess.

  8. RN: We report. You decide.

Shaw is right about Trump's grown children.

BTW, Woodward went off the rails a while ago. Pre-Iraq war "Bob Woodward, asked by Larry King on CNN what happens if we go to war and don't find any WMD, answered: I think the chance of that happening is about zero. There's just too much there" (source).

The media didn't do it's job fact checking bush's lies. Woodward didn't do his job. If he had, maybe the public support wouldn't have been there and the invasion wouldn't have happened. Instead he helped in the selling of the war. According to Woodward "it was risky for journalists to write anything that might look silly if weapons were ultimately found in Iraq". He should be out of a job. Woodward can stuff his "valid observation" and his "good advice".
