A Majority Of Americans Want The Supreme Court's Vacant Seat Filled This Year...
Rational Nation USA

The very best thing the democratic party has going for it is the tone deafness of the republican party. With Trump as the party head it is almost certainly headed for a complete disaster.
HIGHLIGHTS:
38% of voters nationally trust Trump to nominate a SCJ
Only 57% of the GOP trust Trump to make selection
80% of democrats and a majority of independents don't trust Trump to make a selection
Americans trust both Obama and Clinton over Trump, 53/37 for Obama and 52/37 for Clinton
29% of republicans would prefer either Obama or Clinton to make a SCJ selection
Americans want the Supreme Court vacancy filled this year by a 57/38 spread
39% of republicans think the vacancy should be filled this year
65% support the vacancy being filled this year, only 17% oppose it being filled this year
Democrats support filling the vacancy 81/6, independents 56/22, and Republicans 55/26
50% of voters would be less likely to vote for a Senator who opposed confirmation hearings while only 18% said they would be more likely
It is fairly clear Americans want the process of selecting a SCJ to fill the vacancy created by the sudden death of Antonin Scalia to move forward. Republicans who obstruct the process are more likely than not to pay a price for their intransigence.
It has become increasingly clear that the republican party is without a doubt, out of touch with a majority of the American people.

Americans Don’t Trust Trump on Supreme Court Vacancy; 65% Want Hearings
A new national Public Policy Polling survey finds Americans don’t trust Donald Trump to nominate a new Supreme Court justice, and would much rather have that decision in the hands of either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Beyond that, there is growing support for filling the seat this year and failure to do so could result in strong backlash for Senate Republicans this fall.

Political parties aren't about what "We The People" want; they're about what "They The Money Bags Want." Unfortunately our democracy is a sham. Is there any hope?
ReplyDeleteI do not know Shaw, nor will I live long enough to find out.
ReplyDeleteOur democratic republic actually had some brilliant thinkers who gave us the framework of arguably the finest system of government ever designed prior to it founding. It has taken us what, 230 years or so to find ways to screw it up?
History has ample examples of nations rising to power and greatness only to fall. Should we Americans think ultimately things will turn out diferent for us?
