As Right Wing Religionists Continue the Fight To Deny Marriage Equality...

Rational Nation USA
Purveyor of Truth

Kim Davis, released from jail vows to continue to deny marriage licensees to same sex couples in violation of our secular law. Davis certainly has the right to stand on her convictions that are based in biblical antiquity. She has the right to carry signs and give speeches supporting her biblical beliefs and she has the right to appear on television or radio espousing her biblical beliefs. What she does not have the right to do, while being paid by the taxpayers of Kentucky is to refuse to issue marriage licenses to ALL couples who wish to get married. Same sex people pay taxes as well and our secular law allows for their union in marriage.

If her convictions are that strong, and they obviously are, and if she had integrity she would resign from her position. She is in violation of her oath of office which requires her to serve all Kentuckians in her present capacity. Simply put, if she cannot execute all the requirements of her job she should seek employment elsewhere.

Of course the rightwing religionists, the ones who scream religious freedom without understanding what that actually means, are supportive of her violation of her oath and federal law, likely because they erroneously believe biblical beliefs trump our secular law. Law, which by the way, our Founding Fathers enshrined in our federal Constitution. But the religionist demagogues won't let that truth stand in the way of their mystical beliefs.

Mat Staver, the Liberty Counsel attorney who is representing Kentucky clerk Kim Davis during her ongoing refusal to issue same-sex marriage licenses, appeared on the "WallBuilders Live" radio program today, where he said that requiring Davis to issue such marriage licenses is like requiring her to provide licenses to "sodomize children."

"A clerk provides licenses to do something," Staver explained. "A license to operate a motor vehicle on the road, a license to build a particular facility or a license to do this or a license to do that or a license to operate a business. So that person is licensing someone to do something and in this case, they're licensing what? They're licensing something that is directly contrary to the core of their religious convictions, to engage in sinful activity among same-sex relations and sanction something that is contrary to the Scriptures and that is marriage of two people of the same sex."

"To force someone like that to give a license for something that will legalize, that will put a stamp of approval on something that is absolute rebellion against God, sinful, then that is a direct collision of unprecedented magnitude," he continued, saying that requiring Davis to do her job is like requiring her "to grant a license to engage in pornography, to grant a license to sodomize children or something of that nature."

  1. Should be let go, really. It's like having a school bus driver who refuses to drive the bus. It's a waste to blow precious taxpayer dollars anymore on a public servant who won't serve the public.

    1. Yes, dmarks, she should be let go, but she can't be let go. She has been elected. She can't be fired. Can she be recalled? I don't know.

    2. She can be impeached by the state legislature... of Kentucky. So, that's probably not happening.

  2. Davis has, during her tenure as Clerk, "approved" or "sanctioned" the divorced, the fornicators, the cohabitators, the sexual 'deviants', etc...

She's a grandstanding hypocrite in pursuit of martyrdom.

  3. Notwithstanding Davis' belief that to act is against Gods' wishes, even the Apostle Paul said be subject to the government in the Book of Romans... at least that is how many conservatives exegete the passage in Romans 13:1-7...

Now, I know there are some trying to compare her actions and those of liberal politicians around the country as they stand against what they see as unjust laws. The difference is that in the case of the libs, and Gavin Newsom of California comes to mind, those guys did not stand against a law that also adjudicated by the SCOTUS.

That was, and is, by Constitutional Authority, a game changer.

Ms Davis has been jailed for using government to force others to practice her religion. Is this not Sharia Law that the RepubliCan'T Party has been warning USA about?

Would USA be willing to allow fundamentalist Muslims to refuse government services to Jews/Christians? Can Orthodox Jews refuse government service to non-Jews?
