Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Phil Robertson, the extreme right's new hero. Yep, a bible thumping racist and bigot. You go Phil!

Just in from Mediate - The controversy surrounding Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has now taken a step beyond his comments about homosexuality and bestiality, along with his assertion that black people in the Jim Crow South were happier and equating Muslims with Nazis.

Now with yet another video that’s surfaced, we’re once again reminded that this is nothing new for Robertson, who explained to an Arkansas congregation in 2008 what would “do in the Muslims,” as well as “the Chinese,” and that Muslims are “famous for murder.”

“What will do the Muslims in?” Robertson asked in the middle of his speech before the Hillsboro Church of Christ in El Dorado.

“Violations of the law, that’s what’ll do ‘em in,” he said waving his bible in the air.

  1. Happy New Year, RN.

It doesn't seem possible that A&E didn't know Phil's more controversial
    side from the start.
Makes me believe all the more that they had an idea what the interview would
produce and were ready to cynically exploit it for ratings from the start.

  2. Ya know Ducky, the more I learn about Robertson (and A&E) the more I believe you are absolutely correct.

  3. Respectfully, how "extreme" is Robertson? Certainly his views lie decidedly within the Right wing movement, and are "extreme" only within the context of that movement only. And even that, I would say, is debatable. Defending Robertson we have politicians who identify as members of the Religious Right as well as the Tea Party (which CLAIMED it was focusing solely on fiscal issues) such as former AK governor Sarah Palin and current LA governor Bobby Jindal. However, while they clearly self identify with movements that, while they may be a little further to the Right than some, are still within the Conservative movement. And don't forget that GLADD reports a huge backlash as well, showing that Conservative minded individuals (and voters) are also with Robertson. Classifying him as "extreme" is an effort by some within the movement to distance themselves from his (bigoted) rhetoric, but I say he is firmly within the Right wing... and quite representative of the views of the Republican Party and Conservative movement.

  4. Classifying him as extreme is a correct analysis of his position. Period. End of story.

    1. On the second day of the New Year, we learn of another comment made three years ago by Phil Robertson: He approves of marrying off teenage girls. Yup, UNDERAGE teenage girls. So which controversy will finally cook the lead duck? The homophobia remark? The insensitive racial remark? Or the pedophilia remark? And my next question is this: Will the lunatic fringe rise to his defense again - excusing ANY OUTRAGEOUS REMARK just to protect one of their own?

Or does partisan affiliation - under the cover of free speech - trump even the most despicably immoral behavior?

    2. I read his remarks with respect to marrying girls by the time they 16. Of course his remark was ended with the qualifier to check with the girls mother and father to see if it's okay with them. Smart guy I guess?

Here is where I stand (O)CT(0)PUS, free speech, with the obvious exception of crying fire in a crowed theater as one example, must not be infringed upon. For what I believe ae obvious reasons.

However, having said this, what I fail to understand is why condemnation of such positions is not universally denounced openly by people of all political persuasions.

With respect to immoral behavior (as defined by the laws of our society) with behavior defined as overt action, those who engage in such immoral activity must pay the full penalty for their action(s). Ideally it would be without recourse to more than just one appeal.

Now, as to your question, "And my next question is this: Will the lunatic fringe rise to his defense again - excusing ANY OUTRAGEOUS REMARK just to protect one of their own? My answer is, Yes, some undoubtedly will. I will be undoubtedly be called a suck up to the progressive agenda by these very same people.

When it comes to basic human decency and the respect for every individual's rights partisanship should play no part. Unfortunately, and sadly, it does.

    3. Exactly, RN. You aren't even part of the "movement", so you have nothing to distance yourself from. Besides, while his views are common and support, they are in fact not "represent" all conservatism. No more than Michael Moore or Dennis Kucinich's often extreme views represent all liberals.

    4. I know of no "extreme views" from Mr. Kucinich. Certainly he was a champion of the people when he was in the House (if that is what you mean by "extreme"), but he left politics (and is now a Fox Nooz contributor). Would RN not advise that this was another individual we could "move on" from?

As for Mr. Robertson, I stand by my earlier comment concerning his views representing and being firmly within the Conservative movement. Certainly to the same extent that Dennis INSISTS that the moderate to conservative politics of presidents Clinton and Obama are within the Left wing movement.

    5. Dennis Kucinich and Michael Moore are most definitely representative of the Left, and Phil Robertson is most definitely representative of the Right. You may not like that fact, but there it is.

    6. Roberson most DEFINITELY is not representative of my principles and values and I'm WAY to the right of you jmj.

So, as usual you're full of sh*t. Ditto to Mr. Sanders comment directly above.

    7. Totally. After we buried the dead horse, WD rides it once again, misdescribing again my accurate description of Clinton and Obama's left of center (even if relatively moderate compared to Kucinich/etc) politics. Conservative in just a few aspects, but on the balance, left-leaning. Just correcting WD's sh*t in which he incorrectly attributed views to me. I will leave it at that. I won't mention it in this post again, but ask RN's indulgence if WD is dense enough as to bring it up again in a future post.

    8. Jersey: Phil Robertson is most definitely representative of the Right.

Agreed. The fact that his family's new gun line will probably sell like hotcakes is further proof of this.

Dennis: I won't mention it in this post again...

Dennis won't say any more AFTER he gets the last word. I was only correcting Dennis sh*t, BTW. Neither Clinton nor Obama could possibly be described as "Liberal". I won't discuss it again unless Dennis is dense enough to bring it up again (then, if RN indulges Dennis, hopefully he will be fair and indulge me as well).

Also, I did not incorrectly attribute any views to Dennis.

I am utimately a man with a penchant to a level playing field and equal tiime. As long as comment is respectful, on topic (unless otherwise stated right up front), and not eating a dead horse (dmarks and I have an understanding), you will be indulged.

This sight will not become a crapfest seeding grounds like so many right wing and left wing blogs seem to enjoy engaging. Healthy and even heated debate of the ISSUES is welcomefrom all. Personal attacks of any commenter whether they be conservative, liberal, republican, democrat, libertarian, or whatever will NOT be published.

  5. I'm not a big fan of Islam but being that there ARE some moderate Muslims (a significant chunk of which live in America) and there were absolutely zero moderate Nazis, yeah, I would agree with you that the man continues to make an ass of himself.

  6. I'm not a fan of Islam either (or any other religion for that matter) and you are right, Robertson continues to make an ass of himself. And, both he and A&E are gaining financially.

What does THAT say about a lot of people in America?

  7. Sorry to be off topic, Les. I've tried to send you two emails but they keep bouncing back to me from Mail Daemon. Send me an email, and I'll reply. Thanks.

Re: Phil Robertson, the multi-millionaire fake redneck. He's insulted African-Americans and gays and now the latest is that he's extolling the benefits of marrying 15-year old girls. Why do people not see him for the monumental jerk that he is?

As to question with respect to Roberson, I frankly cannot give you an answer. All I know is I se him for the bigot, racist, ass**ole that he is. I guess that's enough for me.
