The foregoing quote by Oscar Wild sums up democracy quite well. Of course this is precisely why our founders established a representative democracy and provided for the rule of law. Indeed we have much to thank them for. It remains to be seen however whether we will keep our republic for much longer, given the political and government proclivities of both major political parties.
"Democracy means simply the bludgeoning
of the people by the people for the people."

    I've always loved that, because I can't help but agree with it.

    The concepts of high and low culture, good and bad taste, aristocracy and the peasantry are scorned today, but the truth remains that once the mechanism is put in place for the will of "The Vulgar Populace" to determine public policy, you get the maddening absurdity we are forced to live with today.

    Call me a snob, if you will, but I do not believe in egalitarianism in the sense that it nothing more than the equivalent of populism.

    On this Thanksgiving evening, I give thanks for the cultural talismans in Music, Art, Architecture, Literature, Philosophy and Religion that indicate that Something finer, nobler, more magnanimous, more intriguing, more merciful and more motivating than the mere desire to acquire more and more "bread" accounts for the best that civilized societies past and present have to offer.

    May God forever bless, Ingenuity, Integrity, Industriousness and the quest for Immortality through greater Understanding.

Every so often it is necessary to turn off the noise, step back, take a long breather, and put all things in proper perspective. If El Donaldo has done anything of value since his inauguration it is that he has shown the rest of the world, and some in America, what a red, white, and blue jackass looks like. For this I thank him, tenfold times over. The offshoot of this, at least for now anyway, is that this weblog is dropping out. Turning to things that will provide a positive healthful physical and mental environment, one that politics, the media, and the continual left-right struggle for total power only destroys. Be well. by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation U S A Purveyor of Truth As the liberal/progressive media and bloggers attempt to trash Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey over the George Washington Bridge lane closings, ostensibly because he is a formidable threat to their darling would be 2016 democratic presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton, there remains NO EVIDENCE he had any involvement or was aware of the actions by his underlings. If Governor Christie indeed had no involvement in the closings, and at this point is is prudent to assume he didn't, the valid question is... should he have known? If we believe an executive sets the tone and culture for his administration then indeed the actions of his loyal staff at least become somewhat understandable. Wrong, but understandable.
