Feds Concerned About Keeping Voter Roll List(s) Integrity In Florida

The right to vote is a right afforded to citizens, let me repeat, citizens of the United States. Non citizens living in the states legally, as well as illegal citizens have no right to cast a ballot. It should seem obvious, as well as simple, to understand that the all states has a responsibility to insure their voting lists are accurate and consist of only US citizens.
Florida, as well as other states are working to clean up voter lists and insure that only those with the legal right to vote are able to do so. What should be a no brainer seems to have some struggling with the concept. If body language is any indication of a persons thoughts, and most experts believe they are, note the obvious bias being shown by the CNN host Soledad O'Brien at the 2 minute marker.
Florida's Attorney General is absolutely correct in his assessment. Some excerpts from CNN Political Ticker.
Seems pretty straight forward so far.
These seems perfectly reasonable measures to insure only US citizens cast ballots in November.
Ah, the cries from the left. Of course, the left apparently views insuring the system's integrity as making it "difficult" to register to vote, and naturally it disproportionally affects minority voters. Someone please explain 1) how registering to vote is hard for a legal citizen to do, and 2) just why in the hell anybody, left or right wouldn't want to maintain the integrity of our voting lists. Thus insuring those who do have the right have a right to vote, don't.
No doubt the debate will continue. Sadly there are too many who fail to see the importance of what the state of Florida and others are really attempting to do.
Insuring that all US citizens, regardless of race, ethnicity, or geographical origins are on the voter lists is critical to our democratic republic. Insuring those who are not US citizens di not get on the list is equally as important.
We need to start somewhere and clean up ghe problem of voter fraud, it might as well be now. Once we do we must insure the integrity of the system is maintained.
There is much more in the article for those who are interested.

Florida's Republican-appointed secretary of state said Friday his state's effort to remove non-U.S. citizens from voter rolls is a legal and necessary step to prevent fraud, and that critics who label the move a political tactic are misinformed.
"If there's a non-citizen eligible to vote and votes in this election, they'll neutralize and delete someone else's vote that's eligible to vote," Ken Detzner said on CNN's "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien"
Seems pretty straight forward so far.
"No individual who is eligible to vote has been removed from the voter list," Detzner said on CNN. "Everyone has been notified by the supervisors of election is given due process to notify that supervisor as to their citizenship or not. I'm confident that our due process will make sure that everyone is treated fairly going forward and no eligible citizens will be eliminated from the voter rolls."
Florida's move to remove non-eligible voters from its voter lists began after Scott, the state's Republican governor, pressed Florida's elections officials to identify non-U.S. citizens who had registered to vote illegally. Using information from the state's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the state identified more than 100,000 names of non-eligible voters that could potentially be on the lists illegally.
These seems perfectly reasonable measures to insure only US citizens cast ballots in November.
Critics say the plan unfairly targets minorities, and paint it as an attempt to dissuade typically Democratic voters from going to the polls. Ron Brownstein, a CNN political analyst, said Florida's move did have a political component.
"There is inherently a lot of politics in this," Brownstein said. "You have a series of Republican governors, Republican state legislators producing tough new laws making it tough to register voters and scrub the voter rolls. This against a backdrop of reality that in 2008 Barack Obama is polling around 80% of minority voters and almost all of these initiatives would have a disproportionate effect on minority voters."

Soledad O'Brien is a dimwit. Once her looks are gone she is through, because that is evidently all that is carrying her through.
ReplyDeleteSo liberals are essentially saying that the poor and minorities are dumber that average Americans, who seem to be able to register to vote OK.
Figures, since liberals view them as wards of the state, children to be taken care of. What a racist, denigrating view liberals take towards the poor and minorities.
No one has ever accused Soledad O'Brien of being non biased. She will bark and badger until she gets the answer she wants.
ReplyDeleteIf someone doesn't have a legitimate ID, provide one free of charge and demand to present it when you vote.
The argument against ID's is the poor can't afford them, take that argument away.
Les and SF, American University did a study and it showed that 98.8% of registered American voters already have an ID. My compromise was that for this small group that doesn't have an ID, have them give the poll people the last 4 digits of their SS# and have them input it. It then comes back either valid or invalid. Easy, nobody gets hurt and the liberals can't cry suppression.
ReplyDeleteOf all the serious ways elections cans be rigged, you two are fool enough to fall for this non-issue, race-baiting, clap-trap, dog-whistling for rightwingnuts.
ReplyDeleteSad.

Well, let me put it this way and see if you can acknowledge a serious argument:
The sort of voter fraud you're talking about here is extremely rare and has severe consequences.
The crime is not worth the reward, let alone the potential consequences.
It's like fishing in the desert.
Why would someone fish in the desert?
Because what they're fishing for is snipe-fish, and idiots love fishing for snipe-fish.
It's a distraction, it has no value, it is not an issue, it is a blatant waste of taxpayer money, and the only value one could cull from this idiocy must be racism. Gee. What a value!
JMJ
(I bet you won't publish this either. So much for your values.)
And idiots like you JMJ ARE FORTUNATELY VERY RARE.
DeleteDon't tell people in Chicago voter fraud is rare because that is a tradition.
DeleteJust like those illegal alien voter bogeymen, right Les? Too bad you guys don't care about the real fraud; the fraud committed by states and localities with institutionally corrupt election systems. And how would these illegals win any elections for Dems? Really, how??? God. It's soooooooo idiotic.

JMJ - No one is condoning the issues you speak of. However, this post was specific, and responses for the most part were specific to this post. Yours excluded.
DeleteThe idiocy is all yours I'm afraid. Have a wonderful evening!
I put forth a compromise, Jersey. For that 1-2% who don't have a pictured ID, have them submit the last 4 digits of their SS#. No inconvenience, no cost, no suppression. No good?
