Having viewed multiple times I find the following video quite good. It clearly lays out ten principles that define classical liberalism, the world view held by the enlightened philosophy and thinkers of of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
For the life of me I cannot understand why for some these basic principles are apparently so difficult to grasp and understand. Beginning with the President of the United States.

Mr. Stolyarov was recently asked to attempt a formulation of ten crucial principles of classical liberalism, the worldview which animated the American Revolution, the European Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, and the libertarian revival of free-market thought in the mid-to-late twentieth century. Classical liberalism - even when it is not explicitly espoused - still has considerable residual influence on the political and economic institutions of the Western world and is having an increasing impact outside the West as well. Progressive statists will categorically deny that we have natural rights, which is why they always have been and always will be ripe for the picking by the any strongman who comes along singing their song.
ReplyDeleteYup, something inherent in the make up of modern day liberals that doesn't allow then to recognize the values of liberty nor reason behind rational self interest. I just can't figure out why.

Examples? Might help your ability to understand? Examples?
"Progressive statists will categorically deny that we have natural rights ..." Like who? Specifically.
"... something inherent in the make up of modern day liberals that doesn't allow then to recognize the values of liberty nor reason behind rational self interest ..."
Examples? Come on, surely one can give specific examples of these nefarious 'anti-freedom/anti-liberty' liberals/Progressive statists who are so non-thinking/non-graspers.

Read the Constitution, study Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, Paine, Hamilton, Bastiat, Aristotle, Rand, Mises, Rothbard, Hayek, and you shall surely learn the answer to your rather mundane yet predictabe ramblings.

ReplyDelete"to your ratherundane yet predicate ramblings."
Cop-out.
You make wild accusations based on vague unsubstantiated opinions. When asked to clarify your pretentious and preposterous ranting by giving an example, you can't.
So who is 'ratherundane yet predicate ramblings?

Ah Emma, too much work for you to activate your mind and seek out what is to many quite obvious.
DeleteOh no Emma, I make observations based on analysis of the reference material, make an analysis as to worthiness, if I find worthy I plant the seed AND pass it on the the reader to analyze for themselves.
My guess is you didn't even bother to view the video and seriously contemplate the broader picture. Probably because you're so hidebound in love with your ideology you stopped paying attention and questioning long ago. Not surprising because that is what a lot of liberals and conservatives do.
But more to the point, why don't you point out the fallacies in the video and explain the pitfalls in classical liberalism. Since that was what the post in essence was about.
Good day Emma dear...
