Is Occupy Wall Street really Autumn in America... ?

Liberty -vs- Tyranny

To the extent "Occupy Wall Street" has a positive effect on ending crony capitalism and corporatism it will be a good thing. However, what we are beginning to witness as it spreads across the country is reminiscent of the 1960's and early 1970's directionless "hippie" sit-ins.

Left Coast Rebel has some great pictures up and Temple of Mut has a great write up on San Diego's version of "Occupy Wall Street" activities.

One of the best articles I've read is "American Autumn", written by Mark Steyn at National Review. The article speaks for itself.

The zombie youth “occupying” Wall Street are contemptuous of the world that sustains their comforts.

Michael Oher, offensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens, was online on Wednesday night when his Twitter feed started filling up with tributes to Steve Jobs. A bewildered Oher tweeted: “Can somebody help me out? Who was Steve Jobs!”

He was on his iPhone at the time.

Who was Steve Jobs? Well, he was a guy who founded a corporation and spent his life as a corporate executive manufacturing corporate products. So he wouldn’t have endeared himself to the “Occupy Wall Street” crowd, even though, underneath the patchouli and lentils, most of them are abundantly accessorized with iPhones and iPads and iPods loaded with iTunes, if only for when the drum circle goes for a bathroom break.

The above is a somewhat obvious point, although the fact that it’s not obvious even to protesters with an industrial-strength lack of self-awareness is a big part of the problem. But it goes beyond that: If you don’t like to think of Jobs as a corporate exec (and a famously demanding one at that), think of him as a guy who went to work, and worked hard. There’s no appetite for that among those “occupying” Zuccotti Park. In the old days, the tribunes of the masses demanded an honest wage for honest work. Today, the tribunes of America’s leisured varsity class demand a world that puts “people before profits.” If the specifics of their “program” are somewhat contradictory, the general vibe is consistent: They wish to enjoy an advanced Western lifestyle without earning an advanced Western living. The pampered, elderly children of a fin de civilisation overdeveloped world, they appear to regard life as an unending vacation whose bill never comes due.

So they are in favor of open borders, presumably so that exotic Third World peasants can perform the labor to which they are noticeably averse. Of the 13 items on that “proposed list of demands,” Demand Four calls for “free college education,” and Demand Eleven returns to the theme, demanding debt forgiveness for all existing student loans. I yield to no one in my general antipathy to the racket that is American college education, but it’s difficult to see why this is the fault of the mustache-twirling robber barons who head up Global MegaCorp, Inc. {Read More}

  1. Great article by Mark and it makes a very interesting point without knowing it. The baby boomer generation is the same one that protested every thing in the 60's. Their kids the OWS are just following in their stupid parents footsteps. The rest of us in the middle are angry and rightfully so because we've been getting screwed seven ways to Sunday by the Boomers and now to have their kids whining about how bad they have it is just too much.

The Average Joes aren't going to take this crap much longer and we need to focus their energy on fixing this country. Thanks RN for sharing this great article. We need more people to realize that we are at a crossroads with three choices. To stay the course with the Joker, follow Mittens and the cronies, or boldly support Cain & Paul for real change and reform.

I know the path that I am supporting and I hope the message gets out in time because by 1 Feb 2012 the nomination is likely to be wrapped up. We have no time to waste!

  2. Steyn has nailed it, as usual. The colossal ignorance of entire generations of people is scary.

I blame the progressive infestation of our educational system.

This is why all education should be privatized.

Speaking of education, those moochers who want free college need to be marching on the campuses against the dean and faculty, not Wall Street.

  3. Ah yes, Punch-A-Hippie! Their is a difference between real Capitalism and the American Model. Of course, the 1% has no problem conflating any attempt at regulating their rapacious greed with the wish to institute death camps.

Just kept helping divide the people and serving the Rich...

  4. It appears obvious Grung_e_Gene that you have not read my prior posts that clearly supports the elimination of crony capitalism and corporatism and corporate welfare.

No matter. Those who are thinking realize the problems, desire they be corrected, but we don't trust or want an enlarged federal leviathan.

    Thanks for stopping by...

  5. By the way, did you catch the hippie taking a crap on a San Diego patrol car?

  6. Come On RN! Do not hide behind the canard of "You didn't read my previous stuff". In this post, you write "One of the best articles I've read is "American Autumn" by Mark Steyn at National Review. The article speaks for itself."

Steyn engages in Punhc a hippie immediately! And then uses a TOTAL BS artifice claiming an NFL lineman (Oher) didn't know Steve Jobs therefore he's an example of the OWS crowd as being Hippies (which equals Anti-Capitalism/Anti-American).

So, yes Steyn has a vested interest in dividing the people and the fact that you cite him and 'warn' However, these protests are going the way of 60's "hippie" sit-ins shows with wom you are siding.

  7. Please nice staged photo, the Tea Party Pundit was able to get a shot from 10 feet away but the face is absolutely blocked? Trust but verify has long been replaced by fabricate amongst many conservatives....

  8. People upset because of mistreatment by banks and politicians.
There's a new complaint in America - NOT
I wonder how many of those protesters got a home loan they knew they could not afford?

  9. Grung_e_Gene - Okay, if I give you this one then I respond ... As if the same doesn't hold true for the rabid left.

As to who I side with... Well, you of all people haven't a clue.

I speak my mind, I support that which make rational sense as opposed to the altruistic and collectivist left.

Whether you are part of that or not I will not make a comment. Nor take the time to judge. I have more important consideration to occupy myself with.

Besides, your words speak for themselves, as they should.

  10. RN don't wrestle with a pig because you both get dirty and the pig likes it.

By the way you must be an objectivist, YES?
