What's Ahead in 2076?

Sometimes one just has to ramble. In fact rambling is good for thought clarification. I suppose for some it signals mental disorientation, however, for most it is a healthy process of introspective thought and analysis.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about earth shattering revelations or radically changing ones perspective. Rather I am speaking more of a self questioning and reality check to make sure ones beliefs are valid given the current and ever changing realities of our modern world.
We all know that in 1776 a group of brilliant men and fervent American patriots declared this nation's independence from a tyrannical Great Britain. Their enlightened thinking galvanized the colonies in a fight for liberty resulting in our war of independence. Because the cause was just, and the colonial leadership strong, the ideals driving the Revolutionary War prevailed.
Those ideals remain as right today, and worth preserving, as they were worth risking life and limb in the late eighteenth century.
The Founders produced two great and enduring documents. The Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the ensuing Constitution of the United States of America in 1787. The principles on which these documents were written remain as sound today as when they were written.
Above all else our Founding Fathers were thinkers of an enlightened age. Indeed an age where reason and science was replacing the mysticism and superstition of the medieval period if history known as the Dark Ages.
Given their enlightened and generally scientific outlook it is reasonable to believe they foresaw that life as they knew and lived it would evolve and change. It is likely they understood that reason and logic would propel science to ever expanding frontiers thus increasing knowledge and human potential.
The principles of The Declaration of Independence, and the Governing principles of The Constitution are as sound today as they were in 1776 and 1787 respectively. Their principles have survived and weathered the passage of time perhaps better than any governing principles and documents before them.
But times do change. Realities in our nation do evolve and often require that new solutions to problems be developed. Standing unyielding on the "status quo" can lead to the world leaving our nation behind. We are simply living in a global environment to a degree our founders could not have possibly envisioned.
What they did most likely envision is that for our nation to remain strong and prosperous would require that the nation, and the political system they devised to govern it, would have to adapt to ever changing realities. They were after all else men of reason and science.
Our nation does not have to overlook the guiding principles of our founding documents, nor should it. Rather the pressing question of our time is how can we adapt to modern realities while preserving the principles that have withstood the test of time.
