Olympia Snowe - History Calls
Well, the slightly pink hue surrounding Maine Senator Olympia Snowe just got deeper. In announcing her decision to vote for the Democrats Healthcare bill she aligned herself with the socialist agenda of the Reid, Pelosi, Obama troika. Even as she indicated reservations she landed on the side of the bills supporters.
Snowe is proving herself again to be a disappointment to those having a modicum of fiscal sanity. Sure the bill she will vote on to move out of committee is not the full fledged Obamanation bill desired by the President and his supports. Senator Baucus, and other so called moderates, will tell Americans it is a good bill and preserves those things not broken while fixing those that are. And the best part of course will be that it provides millions more Americans with coverage. Actually a good thing if it can be paid for on a sustainable basis.
Arguments will be made that while costing over 800 billion dollars the long term benefits of controlling healthcare costs and providing increased coverage far outweigh the sort term increase in the national debt. The political hacks designing the Democratic bill will attempt to convince the people that the bill ultimately will be cost neutral. Which is to say by spending the money the bill mandates the government will be able too, more or less, control and reduce costs so the net result will be an actual reduction in health care costs.
That sort of reminds me of the spend thrift shopper going to the malls, spending a lot of money on things they don't need, charging the cost on one of their not yet maxed out credit cards, and then proudly stating but just look at how much I saved!
Further the current form being voted on will provide the first building block for total and eventual single payer Nationalized Healthcare. This is the real agenda of the socialists in the Obama administration. Both Franks and Pelosi have said as much. It will be only a matter of time before more entitlements are added and soon thereafter escalating costs will follow.
As much as I would love to believe this ill conceived bill will get healthcare costs under control, and ultimately be cost neutral thus not adding to the national debt already sinking this Republic, I know it isn't so. There has never been a single government entitlement that has not grown significantly from its original beginning and ultimately ended up in the red. It seems only rational that National Healthcare will end up in the same leaking and ultimately sinking ship.
