The Presidential Lies
As I sit and listen to the President expound on his vaunted national health care reform plan (as viewed by none other than himself) I find myself getting nauseous and lightheaded. Nauseous because of the lack of specifics and out right lies (here) this man speaks. Lightheaded because it is rare to see such a lightweight at the pinnacle of American governmental power.
He speaks of so called "fear tactics" used by rational conservatives and yet he singles out individual examples of a few unfortunate circumstances and attempts to imply that these examples are more common than not. Much of what he said was meat to evade the specifics of the bill or were outright distortions. More here.
The President claims the bill will be deficit neutral. This claim is an outright lie. All projections point to increasing annual budget deficits and corresponding increase in the national debt (here).
The President left many more questions unanswered than providing accurate information as to the scope and cost of his plan. His rhetoric, as usual, was flowery and of the stuff the feel good socialist/statist play book is written. The proper course now is to take ten steps back, relax, and start the process over from the beginning, Nina Owcharenko, The Heritage Foundation, has it right when she says; "Current efforts by Congress to "reform" the health care system are centered on several flawed policy initiatives that will transfer more power and decisions to Washington and away from patients and families." Read more here.
More to come after the dust settles and more time given to in depth analysis.
