Liberty -vs- Tyranny

Rep.  Allen West (R- FL)

Maybe according to some this patriotic congressmen was over the top. To others he is spot on. So, who has the right take on his recent remarks? You, the independent, libertarian, classical liberal, and conservative readers be the final judge.

Huff Post Politics - Speaking to a Lincoln Day Dinner in West Palm Beach for the Palm Beach County GOP, Rep. Allen West (R-Fla) fired off a humdinger of a line that within minutes drew recriminations from Democrats on Twitter.

"We need to let President Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, (audience boos) and my dear friend the chairman of the Democrat National Committee, we need to let them know that Florida ain't on the table," West said. "Take your message of equality of achievement, take your message of economic dependency, take your message of enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people somewhere else. You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America."

Following cheers, West added, "Yeah I said 'hell.'"

Moments after the quote was mentioned on Twitter, former Reid spokesman Jim Manley responded via his own Twitter feed: "Me to allen west. You first asshole."

And they say politics is getting more acrimonious.

I'll give you one guess on which side of the debate I'll land on.

  1. Well, he doesn't really take any crap, that's for sure.

  2. And the sad thing it, it appears the Fla GOP is trying to redistrict him out of a job. The GOP needs more rebels like him, not less...

  3. I disagreed strongly with West, though on his "shut your mouth" line. I can understand his indignation, but we DO have a First Amendment in this country, and in addition to that, the US military serves the civilian sector. Not the other way around.

  4. I was going to say what Silverfiddle said only it's not sad.

it does show who's side the republican party is really on though. In a way it's comforting to know the real power driving the republican party is a bunch of statists.

How come you like it when rep. West is a hyperbolic lunatic but when I go off on a hyperbolic rant you get ticked off Les?

  5. dmarks - I agree the "shut your mouth" remark was over the top. Yes we have the 1'st amendment, which I support strongly, as you do.

  6. Truth - Well, I don't see West's comment as overly hyperbolic, although I did acknowledge that some would this so.

Ticked off... me? Of course not, just having some fun!

  7. I think that Mr. West needs to tell us what he REALLY thinks of Debbie Wassermann Schultz. His earlier comments were just far too wishy-washy.

  8. Hm, that would certainly be interesting. DWS really does remind one of a vacuum chamber with a mop top.

  9. .

"... take your message of economic dependency ..." This coming from a fully paid USA Congress-critter who is double-dipping government retiree. Right!

"I'll give you one guess on which side of the debate I'll land on."

Oh heck with that. Is this the land of the free and home of the brave? No way Jose.

Freedom? Liberty? We don't kneed no stinkin' freedom; stinkin' liberty...

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and President Obama ...

Sweep in 'Seal Team 666' and send all leftist protesters to Gitmo. That'll show'em.

And you take this ?human? seriously? Really?

So which side of the debate will you land on, hateful fascist or tolerant freedom?

  10. Allen West, that stupid lunatic, should never have stuck his head in that press, because all the sense he he was squeezed out his ears, and nothing has managed to get in their since.

Nothing whatsoever he says is of any intellectual value. He is stupid. Oh, and he's nuts.

"You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America."

If that stupid lunatic said that to me, I'd tell him right up close to his face to go ____ himself.

Who is he? A military guy? Good for him. Now, he can go take his take on what it is to be an American and stick it up his stupid lunatic ___.

I do not understand why you'd like this guy, Les. You are a far, far, far better human being than he. He is intellectually vulgar, vacuous, venomous. Never have I seen so many v's to describe a person. Why do you like him? What is it he says that you find so right?

  11. Emma - Certainly not supporting your position. Too narrow minded for me.

  12. jmj - Thanks for dropping in. But their you go again. Judging a black man whose shoes you would have huge difficulty ever filling.

  13. LOL! In a debate, I'd eat that moron alive. And that "black man" sleaze? Really, Les? I thought you above that sort of sleazy con bait 'n switch! What happened?

  14. JMJ - Yeah, you're a real tough guy alright, likely afraid of your shadow. Tough huh? LMFAO!!!

  15. Being in Florida, allen West should just talk a long walk off a short pier...

  16. Thanks for stopping in and leaving such an insightful comment. Perhaps if the Honorable Representative West takes you up on your suggestion he will be walking with you.

  17. That would be awesome I'm a CWS-Q level swimmer!
