Devin Nunes, a Partisan Political Hack...

Joe Walsh , a former congressmen and conservative talk radio host remembers Nunes for what he really is. A republican hack and fierce partisan more concerned about pleasing the republican conservative power base than doing the right thing for the right reasons. He makes the perfect trump lackey. Like trump he has little to no concern for the truth. Walsh, a tea party republican speaks honestly and to the point with respect to Nunes and his lack of character. I served in Congress with Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.). Based on my experience working with him, nothing about the way he’s behaving now as chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence — overseeing part of the so-called Russia-Trump investigation — is particularly shocking. The Nunes I knew was a purely partisan animal. When it comes to exercising good judgment and discharging his duties in service of the Constitution, he’s just not up to the task. He saw everything through a Republican vs. Democrat lens. ...

Millennials Offer Promise For America...

Perhaps there is hope yet for the country. Our Millennials seem to have their heads sitting squarely on their shoulders and reason fixed firmly in its seat. At least for now. Millennials think things in the country are off on the wrong track but at the same time, they're optimistic about their own futures, according to a new NBC News/GenForward survey. Nearly two-thirds of millennials (63 percent) think things in this country are off on the wrong track. Only 18 percent think the country is generally headed in the right direction, and another 18 percent aren't sure. Sixty-three percent of millennials also disapprove of the way President Donald Trump is handling his job, with nearly half (46 percent) saying they strongly disapprove. Only two in 10 (19 percent) approve of Trump. Even among those millennials who said they voted for Trump in the 2016 presidential election, 22 percent disapprove of him now. At the same time, a majority of millennials (61 percent) disapprove ...

Trump, A Danger To Our Democratic Republic...

Commentators often call Donald Trump a threat to American democracy. That’s not quite right. Trump is a threat to the institutions that keep American democracy liberal. It’s unlikely that Trump would strip Americans of the right to elect their leaders. It’s more likely that he’d undermine those institutions that restrain the power of the leaders Americans elect. He’d undermine the institutions that limit presidential power and safeguard individual rights and equality under the law. The Atlantic June 2016   During Tuesday's SOTU address Trump again reinforced what many have known about him from the beginning of his run at the presidency. That being his intention to profoundly change America in ways undemocratic and contrary to our founding documents. When Trump said during his SOTU, “Tonight, I call on the congress to empower every Cabinet secretary with the authority to reward good workers—and to remove federal employees who undermine the public trust or fail the American peopl...

Trump Is An Authoritarian At Heart...

Those who thought Trump's SOTU address was one of unity, inclusion, and very preasidential should read the following and reflect on what kind of government #45 really thinks is right for America . SLATE - Donald Trump’s first State of the Union was a deeply dangerous speech. It was deeply dangerous because he finally followed in the footsteps of European leaders like Hungarian President Viktor Orban who have long ago learned to give an attractive look to authoritarian populism. Like them, Trump eschewed openly racist remarks in his speech, even emphasizing how much he (supposedly) cares about the fate of Latinos and black Americans. Like them, he called for economic policies, like paid family leave, that would actually benefit ordinary people. And like them, he then cast himself as the only man willing to prioritize the interests of his supporters over those of foreigners and political elites. It was Bannonism without Bannon’s penchant for shock and awe. And it played shoc...

Is the President Mentally and Emotionally Fit to Serve?...

This is not 'armchair psychiatry.' It's a call for a responsible, thorough and accurate assessment that prevents irresponsible conclusions. Given the erratic, impulsive, often immature, and occasionally irresponsible behavior of Donald J. Trump it is understandable that a large percentage of the American people are concerned whether the president is fit to serve in the office he now holds. It is not necessarily the president's intelligence that is of concern, rather it is his behavior that is being questioned. Most of us have known individuals that are quite smart but lack the emotional maturity and intelligence to lead. The subject of the debate is Trump’s behavior — impulsive, inappropriate, offensive, reckless and shocking — which we as a nation have tolerated. Is it something more than a mere departure from decency and historical norms? How concerned should America and the world be if the nation’s chief executive acts this way? As a forensic psychiatrist and...
