by the Left Coast Rebel Congressman-elect Colonel Allen West to ABCNews: " We have to get away from occupation, nation building style warfare. " Bungalow Bill has video to contrast Allen West's statement above, John McCain takes on Rand Paul's call to cut defense spending.

We Live In The Twenty First Century

Les Carpenter, Rational Nation USA There is no greater, or more worthy pursuit than that which results in restraining government; thereby forcing it to remain within its rightful boundaries. Nor is there a greater honor than that which can be gained in the relentless pursuit of liberty and protecting the rights of each individual.  It can also be said that endeavoring to arrive at solutions, such as wisdom would dictate,  agreeable to the majority in a civilized society is worthy of respect and even admiration.

The War Has Just Begun

By Bastiatarian The Republican Party has won control of the House of Representatives and has gained seats in the Senate. Many of the winners are more conservative than the wishy-washy Republicans that we have seen for quite some time. It wasn't perfect, but it was clearly a victory for the forces of liberty. But it merely a small step forward. Even if the winners are more conservative than some other Republicans, and clearly support liberty more than the Democrats, they're still not fully behind the principles of the Constitution, and they still support many of the major elements of socialism that have been destroying our liberty and our nation. How many of the Republican winners support the fact that the only legitimate role of government is to protect our rights to our lives, liberty, and property, and that anything more than that is a step toward tyranny? How many of them are dedicated to relieving us of the slavery of taxation that finances a multitude o...

The Amazing Human Nancy Pelosi Pretzel

Image
by the Left Coast Rebel Laugh along with the amazing human pretzel, her name is Nancy: (WSJ) House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she has the “overwhelming support” of fellow Democrats in her bid to become minority leader in the next Congress, and says she’s not to blame for the Democrats’ mid-term debacle. “We didn’t lose the election because of me,” Ms. Pelosi told National Public Radio in an interview that aired Friday morning. “Our members do not accept that.” Instead, the California Democrat attributes the loss of at least 60 seats to high unemployment and “$100 million of outside, unidentified funding.” “Any party that cannot turn (9.5% unemployment) into political gains should hang up the gloves,” she said. Among those rooting for Ms. Pelosi to stick around are Republicans, who are giddy at the prospect of reprising in 2012 the attacks they used in the past election cycle, tying Democratic incumbents around the country to the liberal from San Francisco. Ms. Pelosi’s rep...

The Non News Item of the Day

Image
by Les Carpenter Rational Nation  USA Here I go. I suppose I could become exceedingly upset over this image to my left. But I have just made a conscience decision to not let it bother me. You see I will simply no longer allow myself to be distracted by,  for the lack of a better phrase, meaningless bulls*it. I refuse to be distracted by what amounts to nothing other than... well just more distraction. I suppose that for those who live in constant fear of all things remotely Muslim the image to my immediate left will strike at the heart and soul of everything Christian. You'll have to forgive me for I just don't see it. In fact what I see is just a half Crescent Moon (the Muslim symbol) overshadowed by a full American flag and some clouds. What this image signifies to me is merely a couple basic truths and no more. Certainly nothing to get all wor...

What's Ahead in 2076?

Image
by Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Sometimes one just has to ramble. In fact rambling is good for thought clarification. I suppose for some it signals mental disorientation, however, for most it is a healthy process of introspective thought and analysis. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about earth shattering revelations or radically changing ones perspective. Rather I am speaking more of a self questioning and reality check to make sure ones beliefs are valid given the current and ever changing realities of our modern world. We all know that in 1776 a group of brilliant men and fervent American patriots declared this nation's independence from a tyrannical Great Britain. Their enlightened thinking galvanized the colonies in a fight for liberty resulting in our war of independence. Because the cause was just, and the colonial leadership strong, the ideals driving the Revolutionary War prevailed. Those ideals remain as right today, and worth preserving, as the...

More on Labels and Terms

by Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Reflection combined with continued study is the attribute of an open mind. It often results in the affirmation of long held beliefs and values. Occasionally such introspection and study results in one rethinking, or reevaluating their position. This process when done honestly and without preconceived basis will result in growth and a greater understanding. It most certainly requires "thinking outside the box." I have been for the better part of thirty plus years a self avowed independent conservative. I don't rightly know if I can lay claim to the label, but if you believe Truth 101 I guess I did. My point is that I am truly an independent conservative. Perhaps I came up with the term because at my core I am a fervent admirer of the great minds that spawned the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason . Our Founding Fathers were the product of this Age of Enlightenment and Reason . I recently posted on the similarities of Class...

Don't Forget that George W. Bush was Anything but a Limited Government Conservative

Image
by the Left Coast Rebel As bad as thing are under Obama, many in the limited government movement have tucked away old wounds of conservative betrayal and are now waxing fondly over George W. Bush. Conservatives republicans like Sean Hannity are pimping his new book and featuring him on their shows, talking him up and pointing to the differences between the Agitator in Chief and Bush. This tells me two different things - a) . Just how bad Obama actually is. Essentially juxtaposed to anyone this side of....well any president looks good compared to the man. Carter looks like a great president in comparison. b) . People that should know better sure have short memories. I can think of dozens of reasons why I don't feel an ounce of "Miss My Yet" emotion. Michelle Malkin has been blogging for far longer than I have. She covered the historic betrayal of limited government principles that Bush ushered in. Here's just a few: Bush then oversaw the $85 billion bailout of AIG ...
