Something To Consider Before Casting Your Ballot...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Liberty -vs- Tyranny It appears, at least to David Wasserman anyway, the House of Representatives will remain in republican control. It is possible republicans could actually gain seats in the House. This of course either a good or a bad scenario, depending on how you view good or bad. It depends actually on whether or not President Obama is reelected. If he is we can almost be assured, based on his prior four years serving as President, of continued partisan gridlock. Assuming the Senate remains in democratic control of course, which it no doubt will. On the other hand if Mittens is elected the chances of actually getting anything done increases. Why? Simply because Romney, governing in a overwhelming democratic state ( MA ) had to take a bipartisanship stance. Everything else aside, Romney knows how to work across the partisan aisle. The Weekly Standard - Democratic hopes of capturing the House next Tuesday are long gone. And Democ...

A Scientific and Rational Perspective......

Image
The conflicts between religion and science have existed and been well studied for generations, yet many people deny they exist at all. As someone who studied religion in college, I’ve seen both sides of this. On one hand, it’s true that many people apply religion and science in different ways, meaning they don’t always conflict. But on another hand — a much bigger hand — it’s impossible to ignore the war that has been waged between science and religion throughout human history. Jerry Coyne , who literally wrote the book on this subject in Faith Versus Fact: Why Science and Religion Are Incompatible , has a piece up at the Conversation pointing out how science and religion actually “represent incompatible ways of viewing the world.” In contrast to the methods of science, religion adjudicates truth not empirically, but via dogma, scripture and authority — in other words, through faith, defined in Hebrews 11 as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of thi...

The rEpublican Circus Continues...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Li berty -vs- Tyr anny Perhaps it is just me. I think not. Some might say I've lost my mind. I really don't concern myself with others view of my politics. Personally I have little use for the mystics of religion or the mystics of muscle (read state in regards to the latter). Any questions bring em on, I;m ready. I have for the lions share of my adult life (40 years or so) been a fiscal conservative and social moderate. For many years I sincerely believed the Republican party represented the principles of liberty, freedom of speech, the right to dissent against public policy and politicians based on factual evidence of errors in judgement, the right to believe and act in accordance with civil law and the Constitution, that if you worked hard and kept your nose to the grindstone you would succeed and prosper, that reason rather than emotion is what should guide ones life and decisions. The list goes on. Today it has become qui...

by: Les Carpenter Rational Nation USA Lib e rty -vs- Tyr a nny E.W. Jackson (Credit: AP/Jacquelyn Martin) And they wonder why their membership is declining. This is just one reason among many. S ALON - In a local radio interview this morning, Virginia Republican lieutenant governor nominee E.W. Jackson said the Democratic Party is “anti-God” and that Christians should leave it. Jackson has said in the past that he thinks believing in God and voting Democratic are fundamentally incompatible, so WLEE host Jack Gravely asked if he still believes it. Gravely explained that he’s a Christian and tends to vote Democratic, just like his parents and family. Jackson didn’t back down. “You are saying for us, we’re all wrong, leave that party. And all I’m saying to you is, if you said it before, you still have to believe it, why did you say it?” Gravely asked. “Oh, oh, oh I do believe it,” Jackson responded. He continued: “I said it because I believe that the Democrat Party ...
