Either Clinton or Sanders Would Beat Trump In A General Election If It Were Held Today...

Rational Nation USA
Purveyor of Truth

As the nation plays out super Tuesday it is looking more and more like a Trump nomination and a Clinton nomination is in store. National poll numbers are showing that among registered voters Clinton would beat Trump with an 8% margin and Sanders would prevail by a 12% margin, a landslide by any definition of the term. Is there any question why democrats and reasonable moderate republicans are pulling for a Trump nomination?

Washington (CNN)Both of the remaining Democratic candidates for president easily top Republican front-runner Donald Trump in hypothetical general election match-ups, according to a new CNN/ORC Poll.

But Hillary Clinton, who is well ahead in the Democratic race for the presidency, would likely face a stronger challenge should Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz capture the Republican nomination for president.

In the scenario that appears most likely to emerge from the primary contests, Clinton tops Trump 52% to 44% among registered voters. That result has tilted in Clinton's favor since the last CNN/ORC Poll on the match-up in January.

But when the former secretary of state faces off with either of the other two top Republicans, things are much tighter and roughly the same as they were in January. Clinton trails against Rubio, with 50% choosing the Florida senator compared to 47% for Clinton, identical to the results in January. Against Cruz, Clinton holds 48% to his 49%, a slight tightening from a 3-point race in January to a 1-point match-up now.

Sanders -- who enjoys the most positive favorable rating of any presidential candidate in the field, according to the poll -- tops all three Republicans by wide margins: 57% to 40% against Cruz, 55% to 43% against Trump, and 53% to 45% against Rubio. Sanders fares better than Clinton in each match-up among men, younger voters and independents.

The race for the presidency hits its primary season peak as 78% of voters, including almost the same share among Democrats, Republicans and independents, who say that the nation is more deeply divided on major issues facing the country than it has been in the past.

  1. Trump does have that "big shiny red button" factor. Given the likely choice of Clinton, a disappointed public may just be too tempted to hit that button. And just like that, America would have a President Trump.

  2. According to what I've read on the other Libertarian blog I frequent, Sanders is an economically illiterate socialist buffoon/simpleton who honeymooned in the Soviet Union and hasn't even been able to manage his own life, for Christ. From what I've been reading on this Libertarian/Benevolent Capitalist blog, it sounds like the proprietor would be OK with a Sanders election. Does this represent a diversity of opinions among Libertarians, or a major break with Libertarian thinking? IMO it's more of the later and less of the former... which I find interesting.

As for me, I'm feeling the bern (voted for Sanders yesterday).

  3. Yeah read it as well.

For capitalism to survive and flourish in the 21st century and beyond will require different thinking. The weblog you refer to is stuck in 19th ccentury and early 20th century. Dynamics have changed.

Break? Perhaps on some levels, certainly not all.

BTW, this site is more Classical Liberal but understands the need to evolve in ways that make sense.
