Black Lives Matter movement does deserve credit for their action (decision) to remain outside and above political party manipulation.
Activists with the Black Lives Matter movement rejected the Democratic Party's recent statement of support, making clear that they are not affiliated with any political party.
"A resolution signaling the Democratic National Committee's endorsement that Black lives matter, in no way implies an endorsement of the DNC by the Black Lives Matter Network, nor was it done in consultation with us," the Black Lives Matter Network wrote in a statement Sunday.
"We do not now, nor have we ever, endorsed or affiliated with the Democratic Party, or with any party. The Democratic Party, like the Republican and all political parties, have historically attempted to control or contain Black people's efforts to liberate ourselves," the statement continues. "True change requires real struggle, and that struggle will be in the streets and led by the people, not by a political party." Emphasis mine

In the streets, lead by people is not necessarily bad.
ReplyDeleteAs long as in the street remains organized, rationally directed, and peaceful.
DeleteWell just have to wait and see. Thee are those within the black community that are not supportive as well.
They've been hitting the Democrats hard because they know it's a waste of time to even bother with Republicans, I've heard a few of their spokespeople say. With the Dems they figure they're at least with some kind of audience. I'm actually not a big fan of this movement myself. Seems like a lot of bs academia at play here (their tactics and existential rhetoric). I thought Clinton made a good point or two with a few of them in that video that was in the news recently. They have to actually do something. Exclaiming that their lives matter is relevant and important, I get that, but hows about coming up with some good ways of making that understanding into structural reality?
