Truth From a Politician...
"Americans understand that the game is rigged, and they've had enough of it. They're ready to fight back. They want a Washington that works for them.
"People are getting more engaged, politically, and they're seeing through a lot of the rhetoric that politicians have been throwing out there for a long time. They want to see some real change, and I think that's what we need to work on."
Few, at least those who have been paying attention, would disagree with the above remarks. Washington has indeed become a place of special interests, politicians detached from reality, gridlock and obstruction, halls of smoke and mirrors, a symphony of distractions, in short dysfunctional; and the American people are paying the price.
If people are indeed getting engaged we can only hope it will be reflected in increasing voter registration of eligible voters and greater turnouts at the polls.
Oh, BTW, the above quote? Senator Elizabeth Warren.

More engaged? That may just be wishful thinking on Senator Warren's part, but I hope it is true. Perhaps she is seeing and hearing more response from people. But your are right, RN. It must be translated into action particularly in the voting booth. The voting in the midterms did not show it, however.
ReplyDeleteIn general voter participation nationally is dismal at best. Mid terms are disgraceful. I see little change in behaviors actually occurring. The activists in both parties will keep feeding the faithful the preferred line and the major cable outlets will continue to fudge the truth to support their views. Hard core cons and hard core progs will continue to duke it out and so not much will change IMO.
ReplyDeleteWhat has confounded me is the cons inability to see that while Obama is a liberal/progressive philosophically he has governed mostly from the middle. I am fairly certain he sees his role as hat of a facilitator in the efforts to move the nation more leftward. However, he is a patient pragmatist who will leave the stage set for the next liberal elected to the Oval Office.
It is impossible to turn back the hands of time and it is difficult to roll back progress. You have to give the republicans and conservatives an A+ for tenacity.
Who knew Warren was a Tea Party member
