When will it stop? Is the government of a civil society responsible for putting in place regulations that help prevent this kind of violence?

Is the government of a civil society responsible for helping to provide protection against such violence and for insuring the safety of its children and adult citizenry? Or are we to leave it in the hands of the NRA who some view as an American terrorist organization?

Whatever your views this sh*t simply must stop.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 9-year-old was injured in a shooting early Tuesday evening on the northwest side of Indianapolis, officials with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

The incident happened in a neighborhood near North Michigan and Westlane roads.

Neighbors say they saw two suspects — one wearing a hooded sweatshirt and the second with dreadlocks — pull up to the side of the Retreat Cooperative apartment complex in a green or blue Expedition. Neighbors described a hand with a glove reach out of the vehicle.

After the Expedition pulled up, neighbors say shots were heard. Police say the 9-year-old girl started running and was hit in the calf. She was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in stable condition.

According to the child’s family, she was selling Girl Scout cookies when she was shot.

Investigators went door to door asking people if they heard or saw anything. Around 6:30 p.m., no one was in custody.

  1. "Alaska has the highest rate of gun fatalities in the country, according to data from 2013. The state saw 19.59 deaths per 100,000 people, which is significantly above the national average of 10.64 deaths per 100,000. VPC's report indicates that Alaska also has the country's third-highest rate of gun ownership, with firearms in 60.6% percent of households.

The study found a similar correlation between gun ownership and gun deaths in the rest of the country. Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Wyoming, the states that followed Alaska in terms of highest gun death rates, had some of the nation's largest percentages of households owning guns.

VPC also noted that states with weaker gun laws tend to see higher gun death rates. All five states named above have gun restrictions that the report's authors describe as "lax."

The study defined states with weak gun laws as those that don't add extra provisions to federal gun laws, such as banning assault weapons or requiring a permit to buy a gun. In addition, states with open or concealed carry laws were considered to have weak gun restrictions.

States with the lowest gun death rates -- the top three were Hawaii, Massachusetts and New York -- were found to have strong gun laws as well as low rates of gun ownership. A separate 2013 analysis from the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence similarly found that these three states were among those with the strongest gun restrictions in place."

Here's the problem. Many gun owners are responsible people; many gun owner are irresponsible people.

We live in a country of over 300 million people. Having "many" irresponsible gun owners and guns in the hands of criminals and mentally unbalanced people means we'll ALWAYS have a high death rate from firearms and many, many more tragedies.

I don't see how this sort of madness can be undone.

  2. Thanks to the NRA, guns are virturally unregulated: numerous examples run the gamut --
-in Iowa, it is easier to buy a gun than sell lemonaid
-in Arizona, you need a permit to cut hair, but not to carry a concealed weapon
-In Georgia, you may carry a gun into a State Park, but not alcohol
-in Florida, you must be fingerprinted to be a substitute teacher, but no to carry a gun
....the list goes on and on.
Mr. Lapierre has excelled at his job. We hope his daughters do not sell Girl Scout Cookies.
